bluestate1 Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Wanted to share: I was accepted into the three programs I had applied to and knew early on that my top choice was a good fit, developed a positive relationship with POI and faculty, and so on. Just received a message that the department is placing all doctoral admission for Fall 2020 term on hiatus, and that therefore they must withdraw all admissions offers. No info on deferment or when admissions would re-open for next cohort. definitely bummed about it, but trying to place my disappointment in the greater context of what’s going on right now. I’m confident I could get back in if/when the next cycle begins, but just shows some of the uncertainty going on in some of these schools.
EmmaJeanB Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 This is so sad. I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this.. Is it irrational to think that these programs will automatically admit you for Spring 2021? It’s the least they could do mcoa1996, HootyHoo and StressedPhD 3
LadyWolfshadow Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 So what schools and which programs are doing this? OMG I can't do this again. I really can't. mitochondria_1, LanternTrinity, HootyHoo and 2 others 1 4

Had you already formally accepted and was it a funded offer?
Richelieu Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 I believe it's Loyola University Chicago PhD program in Cultural and Educational Policy Studies because i'm in the SAME SITUATION. I declined 4 other schools because the POI and other faculty were really nice in Loyola but now when I tried to contact other schools I declined, they all say that they gave my spot to waitlisted candidates. So I have gone from having 5 offers to 0 because of this irresponsible action. It's such a disappointment.
anxiousinternational Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 that's insane... is it even legal to do that? holographic universe and HootyHoo 2
mitochondria_1 Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 They should not do that. Applicants worked hard and put a lot of effort and money on their application. Is there a way you can talk to them and explain your situation? can they defer you? and yeah, is that even legal? holographic universe and mcoa1996 2
