letsgetit21 Posted January 26, 2021 Posted January 26, 2021 I'm writing this as a reminder that: "you are enough - you are SO enough - it is UNBELIEVEABLE how enough you are" - Sierra Boggess From the looks of the forum, several schools are making decisions this week. It's important to remember that, regardless of your admission decision, you are an accomplished individual! You felt accomplished enough to apply to a GRAD SCHOOL - making that decision alone was hard, I know. We all want in, we all feel that burning desire to pursue our education, and that fire alone will carry you into your next steps regardless of what happens this week. How I'm Managing My Application Anxiety This was a hard one. But, I've turned - many, many times - to this forum in order to not feel alone. 1. Remind yourself that you're not alone there are hundreds of people across the world waiting to hear back from these Sociology programs. 2. LIMIT YOUR TIME ON APPLICATION PORTALS!! A couple weeks ago, I was checking application status 9-12 times a day - so much so that I couldn't focus on my schoolwork for my last semester of undergrad. The applications were all consuming. I now limit myself to only check gradcafe & ALL application portals at 7:00 pm each day unless I receive (hopefully) and email from a school to check the status. Now, remember, if you have a hard time doing this, that's OKAY! Don't beat yourself up. Good luck, stay sane, and we'll talk soon. LMSoc, macska, Soc_Gen23 and 3 others 6

I too have been struggling to manage my anxiety (especially this week not having heard back from programs) but helps to know others are feeling the same. Best of luck to you! SleeplessInSomewhere 1

I keep trying to affirm that my worth isn't connected to me being accepted anywhere this cycle, but it's also ok to sit with your emotions (grief, sadness, etc.) if you're not getting news you'd hoped for right now. The main thing is to not get stuck on the emotion, but to process and move forward. I also really agree with the limit time on portals as a way to manage the anxiety of waiting! GradCafe has been a nice find in the midst of this whole process (thanks twitter)! I sorta wish I had found it sooner (before finishing apps), but it's especially nice as we wait to hear back from programs. It's definitely been scary watching others hear back and not having heard anything from my programs. I'm kind of surprised I haven't seen many inquiries about some of the programs I applied to (variety of tiers and program styles), and that's added to my anxiety a bit. Hopefully the process of waiting moves quickly so we can all relax for this cycle! Soc_Gen23, cec2021 and SleeplessInSomewhere 3
