Hjuoollpphhfcvn Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 I was just waitlisted (told I was first in the list) for cmu mfa
Hjuoollpphhfcvn Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 They told me they had 170 applicants this year. not sure if that's more or less than usual ?
SurfsUp Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Hey, anyone here applied to NYU Steinhardt Studio Art besides me? If so, have you heard anything from them? I had my interview a month ago but have not got any news yet.
Shade54 Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Hello, this is my first post here and I'm kind of nervous because of the results.. I'm waitlisted in RISD M + D and this is my top choice.. So I'm trying to think about other options/program but I'm overwhelmed with the offers I got. SAIC Art & Tech - admitted Pratt Interactive Arts - admitted (with a scholarship) NYU ITP - admitted The New School Design and Tech - admitted (with a scholarship) Columbia -- I haven't heard from them since the interview. Don't fall into the trap like a lot of artists do, RISD along with Yale, Columbia, and other schools...aren't worth it....don't fall for the prestige. No one should be going 70k+ in debt for a masters in any art field. There's plenty of fully funded graduate programs...be smart. worldcleft and artcat 2

So the money is not the issue. I’m really lean towards NYU but I feel it's not gonna be beneficial for PhD. Because it's not research-based..

Congrats on those acceptances @Shade54! Several of those (RISD D+M, SAIC Art & Tech, NYU ITP, Columbia) were ones that were part of my decision making process when I applied a couple years ago. All highly respected programs where you probably can't really go wrong with any of them. Here's my brief thoughts: If RISD D+M is your definite top choice, where you would say "yes" in a heartbeat if they offered you a spot off their waitlist, make sure they no-doubt-about-it know that! When it comes to deciding who to contact off the waitlist, I'd suspect any school would rather invite someone they know will 110% accept vs someone who might take weeks to decide and ultimately turn them down, so then they have to ask someone else, wait a few more weeks, etc. If you want to talk further, I'm happy to over DM. Congrats again.
lamat Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 Hi, I have a warning for anyone thinking about attending UW-Seattle: a TERF is in the first year MFA cohort. I heard she has been a disruptive presence/bully. It's a really small program, so beware.

I heard she has been a disruptive presence/bully. It's a really small program, so beware. Can you please describe the types of disruption and bullying as well as the situations going on in your department at UW-Seattle? What does your faculty say about it? Has this feminist been reprimanded? If a woman chooses to advocate for naturally born women it doesn't mean that they are anti-trans. I don't actually know anyone who's anti-trans, but ones personal feelings about a very small slice of society shouldn't be the defining reason to judge them to be bullies, unless it's warranted and they are actually bullies. Despite what we feel, everyone cannot think the same as we do. Heck, I work with rednecks sometimes when I weld or work with metals or carpentry. Rednecks think in their own hokey way. Some love Trump. Who cares? They aren't me. I feel the way I do, they feel the way that rednecks do. And life goes on. Also, try to remember that these are Art programs, not elite clubs filled with untouchables that must adhere to the status quo where everyone must fall in line and believe in the same thing like a bunch of clones. Take a good look at how some of the finest artists felt about politics and society. Look up the political and social leanings of Orson Scott Card or Wagner or Leonardo Da Vinci. Artists are not perfect, FAR from it. How do you and your cohort at Seattle deal with this situation? Do you have rock-solid proof of your allegations of bullying and abuse within your department that can be cross-verified with staff, faculty, and the student body? If you do, then you can take it to the dean. If the dean sees something wrong then it should be dealt with, post-haste. If it's just a situation where a few people don't like another person and treats them badly because of the way they believe; that's called discrimination and bullying and slander. I really hope it's not all bad. Maybe it's just a case of needing something to do and minding their own business? Perhaps people can redirect their focus to where it should be, on their own art, instead of someone else's point of view. Please always remember the old adage: Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." It's real. Sometimes in life you just gotta do you and let other people do them. Please give details. I'm interested in what's going on at your school and I hope you guys have a positive way to direct your energies. I appreciate it. KPCT123 and hallohallo 2

This forum has a secret power where you can ignore people. I even have that power in REAL LIFE! It's easy to be happy and make a better world for all. It's much more aggravating to be angry at everything and try to make the world into something that adheres to your standards, only. That's fascism, and I don't go for that. If you're still miserable in this latest iteration of your numerous sock accounts where you continue to chase me around and have opinions, then I can't help you other than to say... You do you. I'll do me. I genuinely hope you feel better and find some peace. ??☮ hallohallo and KPCT123 2

I surely hope your Artist Statements and Statement of Intent were better than this writing here. I wonder how you would feel if someone referred to your existence and experiences as a Chinco Artist as a, "small slice of society"—kinda minimizes not only your personal experiences but your community's experiences, right? But again, who am I to judge? Just as you have within this forum. I have seen how dismissive and non-supportive your statements have been when forum members come forward regarding their experiences within MFA programs and you automatically begin to interrogate their claims. Not quite sure how that will "make a better world for all" but I wish you luck trying. Once again, good luck to your cohort and even faculty members. Peace and Love. Peace and Love. This is an internet forum, it's not an artist statement. Don't really care about grammar. As Chicanos, we are a small slice of society, insular, even. It's why I create art from that perspective. If other people have criticisms or don't like what I do, KOOL! I'm glad that individuals have their own perspectives, this includes people who don't like me. Do others minimize or marginalize me for having opinions about my art? Heck no. I do this for me and my familia and gente. I'm rubber, you're glue. Whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you. CHILDREN ARE WISE and we can learn from them. I've never been unsupportive toward "members." What I've done is ask questions of anonymous avatars posting unsubstantiated claims that deserve rigorous and thorough investigation. OR, at the vey least, a shred of proof. See, I'm a social justice warrior, Anti Fascist, Chicano, and proud of it all. I didn't create a life for myself and become a success by believing what people tell me without proof. It's a little discouraging seeing anyone online accepting something as fact, hook line and sinker, with no proof. You see that in the Qnonymous insurrectionists who attacked democracy on 6th. You see that in all the Soviet propaganda on the internet. I'm down to elevate any minority, but I'm not a chump and will definitely ask some rugged questions if I feel that more information is needed. It's troubling that you will believe any anonymous poster on the internet just because it fits your narrative. This is a good discussion to have. It's positive, and productive, and I'm glad future posters will get to read it. hallohallo and KPCT123 2
Frank14 Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Waiting on a waitlist decision from SFSU, and the University of Montana. If I don't get accepted I think I may end up just applying for the next cycle! I don't feel super disappointed, this was my first time applying and as an art history major I didn't have a ton of advice from professors or other artists. So I feel like I've actually learned a lot from applying this time around in what I want from a program and where I want to go. Faxma, chipmunkismyfriend, beeebeeeebeebeebo and 2 others 5
worldcleft Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Any UPenn alumni / entrants who might have friends who are currently studying at their MFA or recently graduated that I might speak with? I've spoken with students from all the other programs I've been admitted to, but not Penn, and I noticed its colouring my decision -- ie fading in prominence, despite seeming like a well structured, good option. chunkeymonkey and CactusWren22 2

"I'm just asking questions" is a defense being used for all kinds of inappropriate, bad-faith arguments these days -- a defense used most often by the very groups you mention deridingly here. Re: "not a chump", a word of caution from a lurker that your reputation precedes you. You're associating with likely some of your future cohort here, bending over backwards to function among them as a bullying arbiter of some kind of libertarian truth. I don't actually agree with the original UW warning being put on the board, as it feels just unprofessional, but someone felt the need to post it, and if you don't like it, as you say, it can be ignored. The manner in which you confront people on here, however, is far more antagonistic, persistent, toxic, and as a reader of this forum, impossible to avoid. As a possible member of your future cohort, based on my impression of you and your work here, I'd say you are entirely unpleasant - an element that I would not, if the opportunity arises, work with. chewythecat, Squirrelboy, Arduino22 and 2 others 2 3
nonamerequired Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Has anyone dealt with several faculty members reaching out personally after offering an acceptance? It's for a program that I intend to decline so I'm not sure how to handle this.

deepsplinter Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Hey Everyone! I have recently gotten back all of my acceptances from different programs. I am pursuing an MFA focusing on photography. I wanted to post to see which school you guys would choose between Parsons New School and Hunter College. I love both programs so much and I was accepted into both. I am just unsure which is a better program. Can anyone help out?
