surprisecake
It's on the SoS website! Even worse, one month AFTER applying to Berkeley, i discovered that they are "primarily a PhD school, and 2 masters students are admitted in a year' :S It was in their damn FAQs, how did I not see that before?! chocolate_blanche
If you really like the program and think its worth a shot you will try anyway, so dont feel bad. Its all out of our hands now:( One program I applied to only choose 10 finalists for the interview round and yet another only admit a 6 PhD cohort, and I already feel extremely humble and pressured!! I wonder whether environmental management/ policy related programs hold interviews too, anyone knows? I heard that Bren may invite you for a campus recruitment visit, what about Yale FES? And out of curiosity how come programs in biology/ neuroscience/ psychology release results so early??? Supposedly they must have earlier deadlines but why?! seahawk2k
Update! I was accepted at Duke MEM with a $7000 scholarship and $2900 assistantship! Not sure if it is only for 1 year or for both. Any other updates?
davidyu77
are you applying for the MS or MA at SoS? I can't believe they only admit EIGHT students for each program in a year. I wonder how many applications they get. I think SOS accepted about 14 MS students and 15 PhDs last year (roughtly 30 graduate students). The school is unique in that it is pretty much the only school in the US that teaches the discipline of "sustainability science" in both undergrad and graduate level. Sustainability science is an emerging, trans-disciplinary discipline that is not housed within other areas like public policy or environmental management. seahawk2k
I chose the Ecosystem Science and Conservation concentration. I applied in November/December, so maybe they look at early application earlier? I have also been accepted at Indiana University at Bloomington for the joint MES/MPA. I am waiting to hear from Arizona State SOS, UCSB, and University of Michigan. We should be hearing from Arizona State soon right?

seahawk2k
Congratulations again seahawk! What makes you say that about SOS? Well the confirmation of application email said decisions will start to be made in February and that the applications were given to the faculty January 3rd. Oh but another email said towards the end of February, so who knows!
surprisecake
Oh dear god... I keep ignoring those confirmation of submission emails because they're so generic and misinformed. And this year most of them seem to be going along the lines of 'Because of the infinite number of applications recieved this season, we will be sending notifications by the year 2387 as opposed to March' I just checked my ASU email now. End of Feb eh? We'll see.
chocolate_blanche
Has anyone heard about the situation at Yale? Based on previous years records the PhD results are out in February and the MEM in March. I just want to know when the adcoms at Yale will meet (if not already). Oh yes UCSB said that they will notify by March 19th the latest, so its exactly like like year.

I called Yale's admission office yesterday to ask about the admit process for MESc/MEM. they're just starting to read apps and all notices for admission will be electronic! everyone gets notified the same day. it'll be around march 15th

2shieh
awesome, 2shieh! when and in what way did you get the UMich admit? I've pretty much applied everywhere (as my signature indicates)... no admits or rejects yet Hey surprisecake! Thanks! I first received an email yesterday morning informing my acceptance from the Rackham school of graduate studies, then a terrifyingly thin envelop from the school of natural resources (even though I got in, I was afraid that it was some mix up... something like that happened in 2005 when Cornell notified for undergrads on their acceptances, only to have them submit a follow up email/letter saying that there was a mix up.) The letter from SNRE told me that I was "recommended for acceptance to the School of Natural Resources" and that I would receive a follow up email from Rackham confirming my acceptance, which I received earlier in the day. My application was completed in Dec, with my LOR's submitted the day before the January 5th deadline, so I was really surprised to have heard back so early. I've been waiting to hear back from UPenn and Columbia for some time now, since both websites stated that the time frame applicants can expect to hear back with an admissions decision is within 3-5 weeks. It's been 3-5 weeks since I completed my application!!! Oh well... I'm extremely happy with my acceptance so far, and knew when I applied that I'd be happy going to any of the 7 schools that I applied to. Good luck to you all! 2shieh
