I/O Applicants 2011

Congrats on presenting at SIOP! I will be there! I'm presenting at IOOB as well. :)

Too bad of Univ. of Tulsa... Their loss.

I'm presenting! Unfortunately, I graduated in May 2010, without a SIOP membership, which means I have to cough up 350 to REGISTER. Barf. Also, I got a rejection email from University of Tulsa today.

Hey guys,

I'm doing my UG at Akron and I am close with the head of I/O here. As of last week, 3 admissions offers have gone out, and they are waiting for funding so they can offer more.

Good luck!

hmm is there a waiting list for them to "offer more" and are those people being contacted to be aware of that?

As far as I know, there may be a waiting list, however they are not contacting people yet. I know two of my friends have gone to the director directly to ask and the response has been the same.

Hey y'all,

I've been reading these posts and decided it was time to sign up and share my experiences. I'm applying to I/O and HRM master's programs for this upcoming Fall, 2011. I've applied or am in the process of applying to...

U Central Florida

George Mason

West Florida

Florida Tech

Middle Tennessee State Univ.

U of Tenn @ Chattanooga

App. State

Georgia State (M.S. in HRM)

Backup: Valdosta State

Backup to my backup: Georgia Southern (Experimental Psych)

Maybe East Carolina, they have a late application deadline

So, as you can see, I'm going for the shotgun-approach of applying to a slew of schools and going with the one that best fits me and also offers the most funding. My GRE is 610V/690Q, 4.5 AW and my letters of rec are more than adequate. My personal statement is clean; I have an interesting story that might hurt or help me, depending on who reads it. I've worked in a lab at UGA for a year, and I'm in the process of getting some research presented at Georgia Southern. I've visited App State and Georgia State to see what their programs are all about and to sit down with all the professors I can to get a foot in the door. So I have some things working in my favor.

I had a medical WD at a school in my past, however, and a rather sorry GPA at UGA (2.5 > GPA). However, my GPA in 21 hours of post-bacc work at Ga Southern was much, much better (3.71), so I'm not all that concerned with my GPA.

I've finished apps at ~5 of the schools listed above, and I'm waiting on a random transcript here and a letter of rec there to hit the rest of them and I'll be done with this whole application process. I haven't gotten any psychical mail nor email telling me anything but that schools are currently looking at my application. I sent an email to a few of the programs with earlier application deadlines (George Mason, UCF) today and I haven't heard back yet.

Thanks for posting ya'lls experiences on this thread. I'll continue to update. Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words whitecarnation :)

I got an email back from Florida Tech this morning that said they're still in the process of looking over applications, and no letters have been sent yet.

I got my acceptance letter for UCF's M.S. program this afternoon :) No mention of any sort of funding; I'm going to call them tomorrow and see what's up with this. I don't think I'm going to fill out the few applications I have left for the sole fact that the only other schools I would even consider instead of UCF are App State and Ga State. I'll probably end up at the one that funds me the most.

When I got the acceptance email today I started giggling like a little girl and ran around my apartment a couple of times. It's been a good day :)

I called today and spoke with the graduate secretary. She says they are sending out first sound acceptances soon, but they will not be rejecting anyone at all until all spots are filled. She mentioned sending rejects as late as April or May. :(

Has anybody heard from Ohio U?

Congratulations!

I just got.my UCF acceptance this afternoon! I'm so excited, what a huge weight off my shoulders!

I am still waiting to hear back from the other six schools, NOTHING yet. I find this weird because the results section of gradcafe has acceptances AND rejections listed for some of the schools I applied to. I know they received my application because I got confirmations, so why nothing?? Confusing....

Hey, congrats yourself! Did they make any mention of funding in your email or in the letter?

I'm going down there for the accepted student open house April 1st; are you?

Thanks! No info on funding yet, the email just said "We are still in the process of finalizing financial support information".

Yep I am definitely going on April 1st!

So I am beginning to doubt that I will be accepted to any of the Ph.D. programs I've applied to. Are there still any options for me? I.e. MA programs that still have open deadlines.

Any advice to my course of action? Should I apply for a Masters or just sit out a year and try to bolster my application and reapply to Masters or Ph.D. programs next year?

Thanks for any advice.

UPDATES:

[Canadian Universities]

University of Guelph (Invitation to Open House via email Jan 20th, likely to be accepted)

Windsor Applied Social Psych PhD (Accepted via email on Feb 11th 2011)

University of Waterloo's I/O Psych PhD (Accepted via email on Feb 24th 2011)

University of Western Ontario's I/O Psych M.Sc. (Accepted via email on March 1st 2011)

I'm very excited for the University of Waterloo:

- Historically, one of the best psychology programs in all of Canada

- Potentially 4 years for a PhD; skip the Master's.

- 7k per year tuition, 6k per year living expenses

- Financial Support = 20k for the first year, 23k for the next 3 years.

The only thing is if I went to Western I would have a chance to work with some real superstars (Meyer, Allen?) in the I/O field and so I am very conflicted. Currently waiting back for more information from UWO

Just in case anybody's wondering NYU (Master's) has already started sending out acceptances. Anybody hear from University of Minnesota yet?

Do you know how the invites are being sent? Email? A link on the nyu Applyyourself web page? Snail mail?
