Spiltteeth Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 The academic job market looks bleak, and I’m not the Priest type…. What other jobs can one get with an Mdiv ? Is anyone doing something different with one ?

Without a long term goal, how did you stay committed to your studies? If you're young and in good shape a position as a chaplain in the military could be an answer. Start your own ministry: Apologetics is a growing market. [My University will this year offer the concentration "Christian Apologetics" in the ThD program]. Pick a specialist area and then begin publicly speaking and debating others who disagree. A YT channel is a great way to start. This will naturally lead to book tours etc. Don't forget Christian charities and advocacy organisations that might interest you.
xypathos Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 Many of my Vandy classmates that got an M.Div went into non-profits, teaching (private secondary schools), and quite a few got into political work - volunteered on campaigns and ended up working for Senators, Reps., and/or Governors. There are chaplaincy options, but I'm not sure where you're drawing the line at pastoral work. Spiltteeth 1

Many folks I know pursue jobs in advocacy roles, with many involved in issues related to equity and conservation.
sacklunch Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 (edited) Unfortunately I think the best answer is: any job you can get and one that does not require an MDiv (or related M*). Chances are you have a humanities bachelors, so not much help there. Those of us with PhDs are having a hard time finding full time employment that pays over 40k yearly, so I can't imagine trying to find something decent that also leverages an MDiv without any pastoral element. If you're able you might try to get another masters (state school? scholarships? something cheap-ish), but obviously in a field that isn't dead/dying. Edited April 1, 2023 by sacklunch
