morningglory Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Anyone besides me still waiting to hear from NW? I saw the new results this morning on the train and spent the rest of my commute bracing myself for the rejection, but I'm still hitting the No Decision wall. totally still in limboland with you for nw. i've been obsessively checking both websites and still nothing. the longer i wait to get a rejection, the more angry i become--the long wait gives me the false hope that maybe we'll fall into the same category as some of the folks on the results boards (berkeley had one) that just ended up getting in something like a week after the other admits? but that's probably not grounded in reality. sigh. still in limbo at uva too. any others?
history? Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 still in limbo at uva too. any others? I am still waiting to hear from UVA.
RWBG Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Did the say how they would be notifying people? On a separate note, I have a presentation tomorrow and have been working on it for the past 5 hours most unsuccessfully because I keep checking this site and UCSD's application page. They didn't mention that, unfortunately. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough; my expectation is that at least a few people from this board will hear from them. With a umich acceptance, I have a feeling you'll be a good indicator, actually! Best of luck.

RWBG Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) Thanks! I'll post anything if I hear from them. I am in the UK for the year though, so if it's by post, I'll probably be one of the last to know. Good luck all! In previous years, they've mostly gone out through e-mail or by phone. I'd be pretty surprised if they've regressed to using mail. EDIT: I should remove the "mostly." Every posted decision - rejection, acceptance, or waitlist - in the past five years has been by phone or e-mail. Edited February 16, 2011 by RWBG
KeepinOn Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Just received a rejection from Emory by email. Two rejections today so far…well, at least it's not Valentine's day anymore, haha.
catchermiscount Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Did the say how they would be notifying people? On a separate note, I have a presentation tomorrow and have been working on it for the past 5 hours most unsuccessfully because I keep checking this site and UCSD's application page. Typically, they call people. I was called on a Monday morning directly from a member of the admission committee. I believe that's what we did last year, as well.
Zahar Berkut Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Yep. For those who didn't read it, I wrote out a long, melodramatic ramble about luck vs. choice. After rereading it, I decided that it wasn't worth reading while sober. Since we can't all kill brain cells together, I decided to save the amateurish tirades for future conferences. I'll buy a round and listen to those of you who go to Rochester rant about regression, then you can listen to incoherent discussions about the philosophy of choice. It'll be great. How about we leave it at "if you have no means of control, it might as well be luck?"
redcoat Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Any thoughts on the silence with Berkeley Comparative? I saw the one acceptance. Does anyone else think that means all the other admits just aren't TGC lurkers? I think they must be done, surely. Especially since, according to an earlier poster, their admit weekend is 6th-7th March, so it's getting very late for people to make travel plans. Also, no schools seem to spread out acceptances over more than a week. I can only assume that Berkeley acceptees, especially in comparative, are under-represented here. A massive shame, as it was my top choice school. But I've put it from my mind now: waiting to hear back from the other 7 places I've applied to, none of which have given any news yet (sigh). Their application (the departmental supplement one) says we'll hear by the end of Feb, so it can't be too long until rejections come out now
LondonTown Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Can I get your advice guys? Do you think it would be completely audacious to send an email inquiry about my status because I would like to make travel plans to visit (I'm overseas) and would like the buffer time? This is re: Princeton in particular (though it's not polsci, some others have been rejected from my program but no acceptances on my exact course yet.) Can I just say, I hate this.

Through friends in Princeton, I can assure you that they are still in the process and won't be able to help you significantly (unless you were in the bottom half that isn't even being considered).

Well let's hope that's not the case! Replies seem to come out in dribs and drabs. I guess I just have to suck it up and worry about something else for now. Cheers
RWBG Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Anyone want to claim the Rochester acceptance by e-mail just posted?

JPhoenix Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I think that I may have to wait until March to hear from my remaining schools. I am anxious to hear from Maryland and Georgia State.
bugbear Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Anyone else STILL in UCLA limbo? Northwestern put me out of my misery this morning...and if I were to go purely on ranking instead of by fit, I'd take that to mean I'm in pretty serious jeopardy of striking out. Yep, I stayed up till midnight, and then checked again today, nothing yet. Last year, according to the results page, the first admits went out Feb 20, and there were acceptances and rejections going out into mid-March (some people waited until March 19th....to get rejected). Haha...yeahhhhh. I hope I start hearing back from my other schools soon so I can forget about UCLA for now.
mormegil Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I think that I may have to wait until March to hear from my remaining schools. I am anxious to hear from Maryland and Georgia State. I emailed DGS Dr. Morris few days back after seeing few Maryland acceptances on the results page. No reply yet so I think my chances are slim. Do you think they are done, JPhoenix?
wtncffts Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Received my Wisconsin rejection in the mail today. The only good thing about receiving a paper letter is that it can be framed. CAS166 1

No reply yet so I think my chances are slim. Do you think they are done, JPhoenix? It looks like they may do a first round this week, then a second round in a month. I'm only guessing based on results from the past few years.
RWBG Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Anyone want to claim the Rochester acceptance by e-mail just posted? There are now two acceptances posted. If these are in fact real, I would appreciate it if one of the posters could claim it here.
yinumzhou` Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Are there any other popular forum like Graduate Cafe? I can't believe the admits of Berkeley is so underrepresented here.
Count de Monet Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I assume it's a yield thing too...I'm guessing a lot of people accepted NWU's offer. Oh well... Just went and checked the status of my app at JHU, and I only now noticed that they listed one of my transcripts as "not official", and another one as "not received". As for the "not official" one, it was an original transcript that was sent to JHU in the official, sealed school envelope it came in. I don't know how to make it any more official than that. As for the "not received one": it was from a school where I obtained two degrees, so the sealed envelope from the school contained both (official) transcripts, and were clearly marked as being separate transcripts. The status page does list the other one of the pair as "received," so they did get it--I'm positive. Just airing my frustrations here--if I'm extremely thorough and meticulous in putting my app together, why can't they review it with the same care? Now I have to email them to make them correct something that was never wrong in the first place... I had to email them several times because my GRE and transcripts were listed as "not received." Finally, last week, my GRE scores were listed as received (about 6 weeks after I sent them), but I was told that the admissions people were working frantically to organize all the transcripts (I sent them 7 weeks ago!!!). They are still listed as "not received" but I was reassured that they don't need to be resent but they have not yet been processed....
wtncffts Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Are there any other popular forum like Graduate Cafe? I can't believe the admits of Berkeley is so underrepresented here. None that I'm aware of. Perhaps they just haven't sent out all acceptances yet. Hopefully.

gsasso Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 This waiting is driving me crazy. I still haven't heard from ANY programs (although I'm not confident with UCSD or Berkeley). If they'd all just reject me, I could spend my energy looking for a job instead of worrying.
