scyrus Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I received an e-mail from a professor I listed in my SOP from UIUC
BKMD Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I remember last year UIUC sent out admission decisions in several batches, so don't worry if you haven't heard anything.
applyschool Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Accepted into Columbia PhD program in mid-December with RA funding cong!!!!!!
dttac Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 It seems that Austin has given out their admissions. Has anyone of you heard from them?
edvolkov Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I haven't heard anything. But it's very likely that if you have not received anything, you'll be rejected. Because in the last years they sent decisions in one day

Ujjawal Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Hello to all and congratulations to all of you who have been admitted to the Ph.d. program. Its really a nice feeling to get admitted into a Ph.D. program in computer science. I have applied in CMU,Ohio state University , University of Virginia and North Carolina State University for computer science. My profile is : BS in physics GPA - 3.0 Masters in computer applications GPA - 3.92 GRE - 1310 (Q - 780 V - 530 ) TOEFL - 104. No publications but assisting a professor in a research in text mining. I am assigned to work out a way to optimize the keyword extraction phase. The completion of the task will take quiet a bit long. will not have anything major before admission decisions are made. Mentioned about the research approach in SOP. Will have 3 above average letter of recommendations. One recommender is the prof. with whom I am doing the research, one from head of the department and one from Ex-Dean. Can some one tell what are my chances of getting in any of these universities? I am really very tensed. Please if any one could see my profile and reply? My area of interest are text mining, wireless networks and network security. Thanks in advance. josefchung and mewtwo 2
Ujjawal Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Also I am planning to apply to 1 or 2 more universities. can anybody make suggestions? Really confused josefchung and mewtwo 2
Awexome Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 It seems that Austin has given out their admissions. Has anyone of you heard from them? I got an acceptance email yesterday
Amogh Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Also I am planning to apply to 1 or 2 more universities. can anybody make suggestions? Really confused @ujjawal: please create a separate post about this thank you. what your discussing has not to do with the topic of the discussion. creating your own post will increase the no of people who will look at it and thus you may get more answers. josefchung and mewtwo 2
mewtwo Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Got a call from CMU earlier and apparently I'm in . May you all get your phone calls shortly! mewtwo 1

barber5 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Got a call from CMU earlier and apparently I'm in . May you all get your phone calls shortly! Congratulations! Now I begin obsessively checking my phone
mewtwo Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) Nice! Did you apply to straight CS or robotics or what? I applied to both straight CS and Machine Learning. The phone call didn't really differentiate between the two in terms of which one I got accepted to (not sure if there's any difference at this point?), but I was told that I could pick an advisor from either now that I'm in. Nice! I applied to both those programs as well, and it's interesting that they didn't draw a distinction between the two. I suppose that pertaining to research/advisor it doesn't really matter, but I think the required coursework is quite different for ML. Hopefully the rest of us will be hearing something soon. newmanhattan Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) CMU PhD Software Engineering anyone? I saw that someone visited my website from CMU around Jan 17 / 19th or so, they viewed some papers of mine for which I had provided the links. I haven't heard anything from them yet. Similar is the case with Berkeley (PhD CS), website (publications) thoroughly scanned from multiple UC addresses around Jan 20 / 21 no replies yet. Can anyone suggest what this means - not hearing anything yet after this? Edited January 24, 2011 by newmanhattan newmanhattan 1

Now did they send email invites to people they tried to call and couldn't reach? I do not know, but my phone did not ring yesterday :/
ASDen Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 @newmanhattan: i also had a visit from a Californian address with a UCB referral on 20/1, but was a single visit to the links i provided during application if you hear any thing from them, post it as fast as possible (though previous results suggest they make a single accept batch ~8 Feb then a reject batch a week later) (just hope it wasn't a page collecting bot that captured pages from the ~3000 applicants)

And I doubt that CMU would call everyone who is an initial admit. Not time effective. So if they follow last year's pattern, then more of us should be getting emails within the next few days. scyrus Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I hope you're right I don't think the people who heard back applied to the HCII. I assume it's a different review process because we had to explicitly select HCI instead of CS in the application process. But maybe I'm wrong (hopefully not)
