Here2Teach Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Hello again all! I am reapplying one more time for HGSE, and hoping the third time is the charm for me! These forums have helped me SO much during my last application cycles, and I am looking forward to getting to know others applying the year. I copied what I used the last couple of years to start the thread (thank you SO MUCH to @TabTurbo for doing this originally!), and have done my best to keep it up to date: HGSE Basic Info School Website | Degree Programs | Admission Info | Financial Aid | Cross Registration Introduce Yourself | Upcoming Events | Virtual Campus Tour | Connect Recorded Webinars (lots of great info on admission tips, international students, student life, career & alumni, Ed.M. vs. Doctorate program, student chats etc.) Faculty Directory by Area of Expertise Admission Stats Fall 2021 acceptance rate 36% (2723 Applied, 969 Accepted, 717 Enrolled | source: Peterson's - assume this is F21 given the record number of apps but could be wrong) (NOTE: I looked around and haven't found any more recent data than this....if someone does find some, please share it here ) GC applicant admission data from 2013-2024 (huge thanks to @graciasadios and @mjsmith for compiling) Student body breakdown (2023-2024 entering class data) HGSE Publications Ed. Magazine | EdCast (Weekly Podcast) | EducationNow (Webinar Series) | Usable Knowledge (Relevant Research) mjsmith 1

Here2Teach Posted August 6, 2024 Author Posted August 6, 2024 The post from @teacher_by_heart reminded me of one of my posts over the last couple of application cycles. Re-posting it here to (hopefully) help others in the future. Huge thanks to @graciasadios and @mjsmith for taking all of the previous years data from folks and compiling it. Also want to thank @DogeCoin for this template, which is what they used in prior years. Program/Concentration: ELOE/No concertation. I have toyed with adding the Early Childhood concentration, and I am still thinking it over. GRE: Have not taken, not planning to take. I have thought about it the last couple of cycles, but never did it. If it would boost my chances I might reconsider. Work experience: Over 10 years as an elementary school teacher in the U.S. I've mostly been a 2nd grade teacher, but have taught everything K-3rd grade Undergrad: BA in Elementary Education Undergrad GPA: 3.3 Research: Haven't done any LORs: 1 from a professor from my undergrad that I have kept in touch with, 1 from my principal, 1 from my superintendent. This first two I have asked them to do new letters for me, and the last one is a different recommender than my previous application last cycle. Other info: If I get in, I would be long distance from my husband for the year. If anyone else has done this, or would be in a similar boat I would love to connect! 🙂 mjsmith 1

My impression is that though GRE is optional, it offers a competitive edge for those who have it. Any comment on this? mjsmith and Here2Teach 1 1

I am hoping to go to one of them early on to ask them specifically about this. If it really does help, I will look to take the GRE when I can in order to apply. mjsmith 1

lostinlanguage Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 Hi! Nice to meet you all. I'd like to ask if there are people actually got accepted with 3.0 GPA. I have 3.06 undergrad GPA and I am reaaally not confident if HGSE even considered my application 😢 Coming from Literature graduate, I am drawn to ELOE because the major provides everything I want to learn to pursue my career in education management and building by own language course. Is there any tips on this? Thank you! mjsmith and Here2Teach 1 1

Max45621 Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Hi All! So glad to find this forum! I was wondering what the experiences of those who applied to the EdDL program are: how important is the question (the big change to the system idea) vs. the statement of purpose, etc.? I have just completed my MSc in Education at Oxford after 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry (digital/AI), and I hope to continue at the EdL. Any advice on the process would be appreciated! Hi @Max45621! And welcome! I wish I had knowledge to share on the EdDL program, but I don't know a lot about it at all. There have been some HGSE alums that sometimes pop in here, and hopefully one of them will have a good answer for this question. My fingers are crossed for you and everyone else! 🤞 Max45621 and mjsmith 1 1
LTCTW Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Hi everyone! Glad to find this forum. Program/Concentration: EPA GRE: not taking, not sure if it'll disadvantage my application if I don't submit. Anyone has answer? Work experience: only summer internship. Undergrad: BSc in public policy Undergrad GPA: 3.63 Research: qualitative study on implications of educational background & career choices; several research back in high school LORs: 2 from undergrad lecturers, 1 from intern supervisor. JadedVGC Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Someone posted that they got an interview from Harvard for the PhD in Education program on December 16th. I have a hard time believing that since the admissions office said interviews will happen in January 2025. Does anyone else have some insight on this? It could be a fake/troll post. Here2Teach 1

Wish I had an answer to that, @JadedVGC. I was in one virtual session where they briefly talked about doctoral interviews, and I think they said the invites go out in January. It seems really odd that someone would have an invite so much earlier than what they mentioned publicly.
steph_25 Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Hi Everyone! I am applying to the PhD programs at HGSE with the EdM Referral. Here are my stats, so excited to have found this form! Program/Concentration: PhD (Education Policy, Culture, Institutions, and Society) GRE: Have not taken, not planning to take. Work experience: 4 years of experience working in summer camps and after-school kids clubs. 1 year of an internship at a T1 school in a play lab. 2 years of experience as a Teaching Consultant, 6 month internship with the U.S. Department of Education Undergrad: BA in English Literature with a Bachelor of Philosophy and an Honors Degree Undergrad GPA: 3.975 Research: Several articles were published by undergraduate institutions on teaching strategies, 1-year experience with research on the special education hiring process in my area, and 3 months of experience with adolescents who live around violence in their neighborhoods. 4 months of experience with the effect literature has on the development of children. LORs: 1 from a TRIO SSS advisor who I have worked with closely as an ambassador, TA, and with the creation of an education club at my university, 1 from a professor and mentor who I have had a class with and have worked on research with, and one from my boss where I work in the university's center for teaching and learning. Other info: I am an undergraduate student who will be graduating this upcoming spring and will be graduating a year early. Worried that might be a negative on my application. Here2Teach 1
