EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Hello!!! Just wanted to let you guys know I received an offer of admission from the UofA today (April 2nd) at 2:45PM. My portal hasn't changed though..... they said it would later. But yeah! I'm really excited! It's the only school I applied to so I was really putting all my eggs in one basket, but luckily it worked out! Good luck to everybody who applied here, hope to see you soon Mikaela_774, Jules_SLP, nki1124 and 2 others 5
Mimi1804 Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) @EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I am SO excited for you! This is amazing! If you wouldn't mind - would you be able to share your stats? I am planning to apply for fall 2028 and I'm trying to get some insight regarding what I may need to get into U of A. CONGRATS!!! Edited April 2 by Mimi1804 Jules_SLP 1

Yes I did have a few direct SLP volunteer experience, in total I had two different SLP experiences one of which was a year long. I also had one year practicum placement with a SLP. So honestly I’m just superrrr disappointed, as this is my last time trying Aww I'm so sorry this is the case for you Did you look into applying to schools in the U.S? I have two friends that did that path and got accepted! One of them got accepted into the University of Maine and the good thing about this school is that it has in-state tuition rates for Canadian students! Edited April 3 by blackpearl
CanadianSLPHopeful Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Just curious ... is anyone planning to reject Western's offer? Looking for some hope about waitlist movement!
universitygraduate Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Is anyone still waiting to hear back from U Alberta or Dalhousie, I know some people have gotten acceptances already so i’m confused AlexRM and Lena0 2

CanadianSLPHopeful Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Just now, Luv said: i rejected! Thanks!! I've been scouring these old threads for any info about waitlist movement in past years although I know it doesn't necessarily determine this year's outcome... this is my one shot and I really hope it comes through!! It's so hard to find volunteer positions compatible with my work that I'm considering the CDA program just as a failsafe...
mht31 Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Is anyone planning on rejecting a UofT offer? I am just trying to gauge waitlist movement congratulations if you have the opportunity to reject an offer

I'd be happy to, having scoured past threads for stats myself in the past! I have a 3.9 subGPA (I think, I never got it officially calculated, this is just an estimate based on my own calculations). I also have a 4.0 GPA for the prereqs; even though they officially only look at your last 60 credits I think prereq GPA is still important (even if you took those prereqs earlier in your undergrad career), as I once met someone who applied with a ton of experience, a banging statement of intent and a 3.8 GPA, but unfortunately their prereq GPA was a 3.4, and I believe that may be why they couldn't get in (though I don't know for sure). I also had quite a wide range of volunteering experience over a period of about 3 years (didn't start volunteering really until 2nd year (I took 5 years also)), and though each one didn't have a ton of hours, I think the level of diversity was helpful (you also don't have to list the hours on your resume). I worked with preschoolers, teens, and older adults with a variety of communication disorders (Autism, Aphasia, stutters, etc...) just tried to get as much as I could. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to pursue research twice via scholarships, and both supervisors kindly wrote me letters of recommendation (try looking for research scholarships, usually they're not super competitive and may even be desperate for applicants). I also did some volunteer research work (I got the opportunity simply by searching for faculty members, reading their areas of research, then cold emailing those whose research appealed to me), and this volunteering helped me get the scholarships I think. I'm kind of nervous sharing this, I hope I don't get in trouble haha. Hope this is helpful! You absolutely got this Edited April 3 by EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE VGSLP, Jules_SLP and Mimi1804 3

I was hoping to get in there since I'm from Sask. Although I got accepted to Western, I was hoping to be closer to home. But it looks like U of A acceptances went out yesterday, so I'm nervous? I also got on the waitlist at Mcgill and might like that better than Western, but I don't think there are good chances of movement on that waitlist? Does anyone have insight?
Mikaela_774 Posted April 3 Posted April 3 I heard back from UofA yesterday and got in! They said in the email that they've "completed the review of all applications for the Fall 2026 school year." I assume waitlist offers and rejections will be sent out in the next couple days, unless they wait until after the April 15 acceptance deadline... I'll be rejecting my McMaster offer so a spot there will open up. Still waiting to hear back from Dalhousie and USask; was rejected from McGill. Lena0 and AlexRM 1 1

Im also waitlisted by McGill and I emailed to confirm I wanted to stay on the waitlist. I asked if I could have insight on what the waitlist movement could look like and they said “some years we dip into the waitlist a lot and some years we don’t at all” and they also said they can’t let me know where I am on the waitlist. I would personally recommend accepting western because McGill also waitlisted a lot of people (I saw on discord) and there’s no way of knowing where you are on the waitlist. AlexRM 1

I know its harder to get in as an out of province applicant, so maybe they are sending out offers to in-province first. A friend of mine applied last year and was rejected on March 24th.. so I'm not sure what to expect now that we are in April. Best of luck to you! Hopefully we both get accepted!
