smerd Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Not that I think I have a great shot, but I figured WWS was a big enough deal to warrant a thread of its own. Looking back at results history: 2008 notifications were on Friday, 3/142009 on Wednesday, 3/112010 on Friday, 3/12 I think this is pretty good evidence that we'll find out next week, likely late in the week. Thoughts on this or other aspects of WWS? I'm personally a little concerned that it lacks a good selection of public management courses (compared to say GPPI or HKS).
JBrodsky Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I heard from a friend that the decisions are made and admissions are trying to get the decisions out a bit earlier this year... so perhaps early next week? Good luck. bdkk185 1

Good luck. Thanks for the intel, JBrodsky! The WWS website says the following: Dates & Deadlines **Admitted Student Hosting Weekend will be held March 25-27! Details to follow upon admission.** Admissions decisions will be available on or around March 15th. Application deadline: December 1, 2011 for Fall 2012 Admission - all degree programs

StellaHaiti2 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Just to compulsively share more: Acting out of optimism, I emailed a bunch of current students in my concentration last month to see if any of them would be willing to meet with me over their Spring Break (when I can visit if accepted). They were all really nice and said they would be totally willing to answer any questions I had. I told them I would deluge them after I find out. Also, just to whet your teeth, I was told this: "When Admissions sends out decisions, there will be a Google group to which you can post questions (since you likely won't be the only one with the same question!), and current MPAs respond with their thoughts."
CowboyDan Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Applied for the MPA program and waiting is killing me, so I emailed someone I know at WWS to ask if he'd heard anything. He said that notifications for MPA are going out tomorrow, so hopefully the waiting is almost over. Don't sue me if this isn't true, but his response indicated certainty. Now if only the admit rate were higher than 9% or whatever it is...
inspiration Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Omg reading this thread makes me so anxious...yeah the admission rate is around 9% which is ridiculously lower than most other programs. Fingers crossed and hopefully the waiting is over soon...
intlpolicy10 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 With the admissions rate, I feel like I applied to the school of impending doom! StellaHaiti2 1
JBrodsky Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Good luck everyone. At least the waiting will be over. :-)
magellan Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I presume that the admissions committee will notify applicants by email that an admissions decision has been made. Can anyone shed light on where the decision will be indicated on the 'applyweb Princeton Graduate school website? Clearly I could wait anywhere from 1 - 7 days and just wait for their email - but why do that when I can agonize in the meantime!
JBrodsky Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 In the case of Princeton, you get your decision right in the email, I believe. I don't think that they refer you to a website.

CowboyDan Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Nothing yet. I was anxiously checking my email at midnight last night since that's when they sent out some of the notices last year. I appreciate all the information aggregated on this site, but I'm not sure TheGradCafe has actually increased my quality of life. It would probably be better not to know so much -- that way I'd be less obsessive and twitchy.
CowboyDan Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Cowboy, This is hilarious considering your post has to be the most anxiety inducing...hold on, need to refresh my email...damn. Just kidding though - no hard feelings. I do hope decisions will be out today but i'm going to try to pretend it's not possible. Ha, that's fair enough. But I figured it wouldn't be right not to share the info I had. This waiting has to end. Hope the guy was right.
just4u1530 Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Last year 85 were selected out of 891 applicants with 11 deferrals and 37 waitlisted..I wonder how many seats we are competing for this year.. Ha, that's fair enough. But I figured it wouldn't be right not to share the info I had. This waiting has to end. Hope the guy was right.
CowboyDan Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Last year 85 were selected out of 891 applicants with 11 deferrals and 37 waitlisted..I wonder how many seats we are competing for this year.. I have no hard evidence, of course, but wouldn't it be safe to assume that the odds probably haven't gotten any better? It's not like there's been much of an uptick in the economy, and lots of people are thinking it's a good time to hide out in grad school for a couple years. Anyone know if there is any other MPP/MPA program with a sub-10% acceptance rate?
fso2k11 Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I think Kennedy School MPP is 18%-20%. abogs78 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Goldman School (UC Berkeley) is about 11% according to their 2010 profile - 662 applied only 75 entered the class..... I think Kennedy School MPP is 18%-20%.
smerd Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Goldman School (UC Berkeley) is about 11% according to their 2010 profile - 662 applied only 75 entered the class..... In 2010, 662 applied and 75 entered, but the matriculation rate is not 100%--they let in more people than enter in the fall. Judging from the mass email that they accidentally CCed to 190 admits (instead of BCCing), I would guess that the admission rate for GSPP is just under 30% (190 / 660). That assumes that they got around the same number of applications this year as last year. Given that they seem to shoot for a 75 or 80 student class size, that would make their matriculation rate kinda low, around 40 or 45%. SaraDC 1
smerd Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 HOLY DING DONGS BATMAN! I GOT IN! Just got the email!!! HOLY COW!
JBrodsky Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 HOLY DING DONGS BATMAN! I GOT IN! Just got the email!!! HOLY COW! Congrats... fingers still crossed I suppose. :-)
SweetTea08 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I was just lurking here and thought I would mention that acceptances are sent out one by one. So if you haven't heard anything yet, don't freak out. Congrats to some of you!
JBrodsky Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 thanks! Does this mean adcoms are sitting around a computer at midnight hitting the send button every few seconds? heh I'm really curious about that too...
CowboyDan Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I need to do something less stressful than obsessively eye my inbox. Gonna Netflix-stream a documentary about life in a Taliban-controlled region of Afghanistan. At least the acceptance rate to join the Taliban is higher than 10%!
