acornrawr Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Do we get scoring/rating sheets/comments on our NDSEG application?
fluffy Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Hey, I believed you guys when everyone else was calling you trolls but there's really no need to be snarky and rub salt in the wound, yes I'm sure you guys had awesome applications and are doing great work but it's not like you're magnitudes greater than the rest of us. Just relax and celebrate! Yeah, thanks for that. I never said I was better than anyone else. I just got annoyed by all the troll comments.
Kriegsspiele Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 treat the DoD like any other fellowship proposal. write a strong basic research component.if you target the DoD specifically, you'll end up looking like a weak candidate This is a good point. I've also heard you shouldn't try to tailor your proposal to the goals of the DoD, you should write it like any other research proposal. If your research really does contribute to the goals of the DoD, then include it, but too much emphasis would probably be transparent. I hear they're more interested in investing in smart scientists and engineers that could contribute to their country down the road rather than expecting great things from your PhD work...
Kriegsspiele Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Do we get scoring/rating sheets/comments on our NDSEG application? No.

crimsonengineer87 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Sooooo...... How many of us still havent heard back yet (and what field)? OE Didn't someone mention NDSEG has sent two waves of letters in the past?
TheNeurotic Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Sooooo...... How many of us still havent heard back yet (and what field)? OE Still waiting... OE as well mensagirl 1
TheNeurotic Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Didn't someone mention NDSEG has sent two waves of letters in the past? I'm curious about that as well. Have there been any "alternates" this year? fluffy, mensagirl and kkompiles 1 2
kkompiles Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 you guys are doing it all wrong. for example, it doesn't matter if you have .mil and 202 recommendations. i can't believe this isn't obvious to everyone That was a *JOKE* from much earlier in the forum....
medoholic Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Still waiting... OE as well Biosciences...still waiting as well. Has anyone from biosciences heard?
TheNeurotic Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 maybe the release is in alphabetical order... except for those who are part of round two? fluffy and mensagirl 1 1

medoholic Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) http://www.princeton...rchive/?id=5037 biological engr results Nice find... It's hard to say for sure what discipline they applied to though. Edited April 19, 2011 by medoholic
meaganmna Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Has anyone heard a "yes" back from Oceanography??
andrealphus Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Has anyone heard a "yes" back from Oceanography?? Someone should call.......
meaganmna Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I know of someone who has heard back "no" from oceanography... they heard on the 18th. I haven't heard anything... wondering if anyone has received a "yes?"
andrealphus Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I know of about 4 people who are still in the dark for OE........(havent heard of anyone getting a yes for NA/OE...) I think they might have something against ocean science....
meaganmna Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Hmmm.... I wonder if they notify in two waves, though, since some OE people have heard no? I'm trying not to get excited, because I think it's odd that they'd give out rejections before acceptance emails. Hmmmm... still in the dark!
TheNeurotic Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 This is the email I got Monday, I think someone else posted a similar on as well. The first wave of award notifications have been issued, however, we are still in the process of administering the complete list of awards this time. mensagirl 1
TheNeurotic Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 At this point I'm willing to guess we are part of "wave two", whatever that means. mensagirl 1
meaganmna Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Thanks for that, TheNeurotic. Did you contact them directly to get that email response, or did they just send it to you? I haven't heard anything. So, still could be good or bad. Frustrating!
TheNeurotic Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Thanks for that, TheNeurotic. Did you contact them directly to get that email response, or did they just send it to you? I haven't heard anything. So, still could be good or bad. Frustrating! I emailed them Monday morning and they gave me that response. They actually responded fairly quickly, although not that informative. I also know someone who called them Monday and got the same reply as everyone else, "All notices sent out today". Calling doesn't seem to provide very accurate information. mensagirl 1
crimsonengineer87 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 At this point I'm willing to guess we are part of "wave two", whatever that means. I wonder if these "waves" are dependent on the different research arms within the DoD (i.e. ARO, Naval Research Office, etc) sending ASEE the "list"? That would kind of make sense why a few people have heard from a variety of disciplines, rather than the explanation that they are sending out rejections/acceptances by disciplines. Sure certain disciplines fall within certain research organizations, but some may have a variety of uses within the DoD (as they explained on their website). Just a theory. But I'm still waiting for that rejection.
