Fulbright 2012-2013

I'm wondering if they announce people in a certain order, those who pass, alternates, those who do not move on.. One girl from my uni with the same country choice was notified two weeks ago, and I still haven't heard anything... I just emailed and called Rachel Holskin and am waiting to hear the explanation.. I'm guessing it will be a similar reason for why one German ETA has heard and some others have not.. I have no idea the way they do it - it is truly a mystery at this point

Ha!

Earlier I suggested that one of you numbers experts see if you could estimate the day of the week that we might be notified.

I thought I'd just take a look myself, and looked at the Germany TA dates (since there are so many of you here), and found that:

In 2007-2008 notification was on Wednesday

In 2008-2009 notification was on Friday

In 2009-2010 notification was on Thursday

In 2010-2011 notification was on Tuesday

and

In 2011-2012 notification was on Monday.

Good thing that my research doesn't depend on any numerical predictions...

Just notified that I got the ETA in Germany ! Wooooooo !!!!

My heart is racing now that one Germany ETA found out about 2 hours ago and another person's friend found out...and I haven't heard anything. I think all us Germany ETA finalists are dying now!

Congrats zkrcorn! How did you find out? Please tell us more!

I didn't do this b/c we really don't have the data to make any kind of analysis. Also, my bet is that there is no real pattern in terms of day of the week over multiple years.

Oh. Troll. :(

Ray1246 only pointed out the troll... Sheesh. And the other person stating that their friend had heard was the person who said they were aware a "CANADIAN ETA"... Another troll... We're becoming a magnet for them I guess. Guys, I don't think any German ETAs have been awarded yet. Don't panic. And don't give Ray negative-whatever-those-things-are on the side. :)

Wow, it's so weird to think that something as academic as the Fulbright would attract trolls! But I think it's safe to say that this topic will reach 100 pages of worrying before April 1st without any outside help, haha. Just hang in there, everybody! This community is meant to be a source of support and information, don't let it get you down :)

I have kind of a weird question: does anyone know anything about bringing pets along while you are studying on a Fulbright? I'm really hoping to bring my dog to Austria- but I have no idea how that works. Anyone encountered this kind of issue before?

I think it would depend on your housing situation, which is probably linked to whether you are on a full grant or ETA. I am a full grant applicant, and my family is all coming- me, my husband, two kids, and two dogs- if (when?) Costa Rica approves me. We will be responsible for securing our own housing there and bearing the cost of flying the dogs.

Just notified that I got the ETA in Germany ! Wooooooo !!!!

My response to this was "shit" (sorry) shortly followed by happy feelings of congratulations for you...does not getting notified today mean they're sending out rejections later...? I'm guessing...

Congrats! I hope I'll be joining you in happy land.

My wife and I are going to Germany on a faculty research Fulbright, and we are planning to bring our dog (and maybe our cats, too, if we get a bit crazy). Apparently, you can get an EU Pet Passport. We are still looking into it ourselves, but it seems like it's not too hard. Only, it's worth checking out right away, in case some vaccinations have to be completed during a certain time period before your departure.

So all this talk of trolls, does that mean the German ETA acceptance was fake?!

Sorry, I was just having trouble following what was going on..... I was at work all day/evening and then went to a movie without time to think about getting online, but on the way home I checked the forum and nearly had a heart attack when I read someone heard and I hadn't! I planned to try and enjoy my weekend and stay out of here, but checking the thread is just something I do without thinking now, right after I refresh my email and before I check Facebook. Sad, right? Anyway, then I spent five minutes double checking my email and looking through my spam to make sure it didn't get lost.

But, if it's real, congratulations! Let's hope more of us join you on Monday (if it is real and tons of us haven't heard yet it can't be that bad right?! Because statistically at least some of us should win, right!?!) If, as I suspect, the "acceptance" was fake, then I'm slightly annoyed, but honestly mostly relieved!

Thanks for this guys! This makes me super hopeful, because it would be great if I could bring my husband too- so we'll have to see how it all works out. In any case, thank you for your insight. :)

It was definitely fake. Someone (I believe Molly Rowland) posted that she heard from Theresa that we are supposed to hear early in the week--so enjoy your weekend!
