socialpsych Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Does anyone have any info on UC Santa Barbara? There were a few posting on the results page, but not too many. I haven't heard either way, I called two weeks ago and they said the social psych dept was still making decision. It's getting late in the game, but I'm hanging on to the last bit of hope left. I'd appreciate any info! Sorry to say, they decided really early on. I got an offer about 2 months ago. I declined, but I heard they are not accepting off the waitlist. How annoying that they have not told you anything yet! Maybe they have had multiple people decline and are still trying to figure out what to do?
shinrigaku Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Now that I'm assuming UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara may be shot... Has anyone heard about the University of British Columbia? There's no Social information on the results page for this year. Have any Americans gotten offers from Canadian schools? A professor at the University of Toronto warned me during my interview that the university has limited the number of offers they can make to foreign students this year.
poofypoof Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 For those who have not heard from Stanford, I called/emailed and got this response: Thank you for your message. We anticipate that applicants will receive admissions information within these next few weeks. (I applied in the Personality Area)
drpsych Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Poofypoof, I think they sent out 3 offers in the Personality area..
poofypoof Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Yes, I know they've interviewed and sent out offers already. Just wish they would send out rejections so that the rest of us can move on with our lives/decisions.
Itchy Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Poofypoof, I think they sent out 3 offers in the Personality area.. Please don't interpret this as "I don't believe you", because the intent is much more "how does one find out this kind of thing," but... how do you know they sent out three offers? Please feel free to PM if that's better. Also, confusingly, my indirect Stanford sources say that they do not always (in fact, rarely) interview, at least for cognitive.
socialpsych Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Poofypoof, I'm a Stanford undergrad and I'll tell you (and everybody) that you can trust whatever drpsych says about Stanford! S/he is legit. (: I don't know how things work in cognitive, but in personality they definitely conducted interviews a couple weeks ago. I was in the building the day they were interviewing, and I chatted with both a prof and one of the interviewees about it.

drpsych Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Itchy, I PMed you, and also, I don't know about cognitive at all so I don't know what's going on for that department.. sorry!
Itchy Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I saw the PM, thanks very much for the information. I think at this point the best I could hope for would be waitlisting. Thanks!
poofypoof Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Yep, I know that Stanford conducted interviews because it shows up in the Results Search, and I personally know someone who interviewed there last month. I never questioned drpsych if you look at my posts. I was just hoping for a confirmed rejection from the Department so that I can rest in peace!
ammo1 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Hey everyone, For those of us who have been rejected from the Social Psych program at Purdue, don't take it too personally. I found out over a month ago that the department had budget cuts and only two professors (Wegener and I forget the second) were able to take a student. I didn't want to post it on here then, because I didn't want people to get all worried or utterly bummed like I was. Thus, I thought I'd post this information now to potentially help those who are bummed like I am and to help put things into perspective. On another note, is anyone else out there accepted to CSU's applied social program?

I haven't heard any news since I submitted the application. many thanks!
Sahana Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 To ammo1 , Thanks for that post! I got rejected by Purdue and your post made me feel a little better
socialpsych Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 hi, do you know anything about the neuroscience sub-area? I haven't heard any news since I submitted the application. many thanks! I think they had an admit or interview day last Friday. I am not 100% sure though; something happened last Friday that a prof referred to as "neurosci admissions", that's all I know. Guess it could have been a meeting, too.
Sahana Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Has anyone heard from Michigan State? I've sent a couple of emails to the Graduate Coordinator but haven't gotten a reply! There isn't a way to check the application status as well And, would anyone know if final offers have been made by UMass- Amherst? My status is still "pending" in the website. Will it get updated or will I receive a postal mail?

I email POI and secretary but there has been no response so I guess I will not be admitted
SweeneyAmong Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 RE: UMass- Amherst I'm pretty sure they've sent out notifications already. I think we were able to establish that "pending" is indeed code for "your rejection letter is in the mail". I received mine about a week after my status changed. I don't mean to crush all hope out of you- I mean you could just as easily be waitlisted. Anyone one have any info for UVM? I'm trying to stop fantasizing about Vermont and move on emotionally but I think my heart won't let it go until the letter arrives...
psychdork Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Has anyone heard from Michigan State? I've sent a couple of emails to the Graduate Coordinator but haven't gotten a reply! There isn't a way to check the application status as well I got my rejection letter from Michigan State back in January. Really shocked since I was confidant (apparently too confidant) that I would be accepted since I matched my POI's research interests (or thought I did) and one of my profs went there. I emailed the Graduate Coordinator in November with a question and never got a reply. As far as I know, no one has posted acceptances.

I almost applied to Purdue but didn't at the last minute and have been wondering if I made the right decision. Sorry though for those who weren't accepted.
Nilla Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I was wondering if any of you had applied to Florida State, and if so, have you heard anything from them? I know someone who has been accepted into their clinical program. But looking at the social psych. results page, there hasn't been anything for social yet. At this point, I just want the rest of my rejections to come in so I can accept an offer and move on.
ammo1 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Hey, I haven't heard from FSU's social psych either. By chance, when was your friend accepted to the clinical? I had a friend just go to the interview last week and had a phone interview yesterday, so I am hoping she finds out soon.
weeble Posted March 14, 2009 Author Posted March 14, 2009 Has anyone had an acceptance from Penn State yet? I see that some rejections have gone out, but no word on acceptances. Did anyone else here apply? They're the only school I haven't heard from (since having an interview over a month ago). I just want to know the results from them so that I can move on and make my decision. Any insight?

Parmenides79 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 As a Purdue casualty, I appreciate the news about the budget constraints.
