Hey Guys! I wanted to ask for some advice here. I've had two separate conversations with professors at my top choice of school--first with my POI (who seemed really enthusiastic) and then with the head of admissions committee (who was nice enough but we didn't have that much to talk about that wasn't "funding/how does the department work, generally" because our interests areas are basically on different planets). Anyway, they've both told me that I'm a top candidate for their school, that my POI is very excited for me to come there, etc...but they won't actually say out loud that I'm in!

Am I just being paranoid at this point that I won't get an offer, or have people in this thread done multiple "interviews" with a school and still not gotten admittances? I think the acceptance rate for the school is around 6-7%, so I'm just worried that merely having done a few interviews isn't close at all to a guarantee.

While I don't think it's a guarantee, I think an advantage of PhD admissions is that your POI matters a lot. In addition, I think they wouldn't describe you as a top applicant it you didn't stand a good chance of getting in. I think it's their way of getting you to get attached to a school without a commitment on their part.

Just got my UCSD rejection! Doesn't even sting after I got in at my top choice :D

If you think you're safe at midnight, you're not! I got my letter at 11:55 PM PST.

Same here. Haha, I was so surprised by the time stamp! There was probably a timer to release them when no one could call and complain. :P All right, well, officially 3/4 now, but I'm assuming that no news from UChicago and UNC is unoffical rejection at this point. So that makes 3/6 unofficially. Super excited for everyone who got in, though! Gotta spread the love.

I got this mail from Duke:

"The first round of admission offers has been made.  Because we fund all of our Ph.D. students, we are unable to offer admission to every top candidate.   Your application is on “hold”.  That means we are very interested in you, but extending an offer of admission depends upon the matriculation rate of the first round offers.  I know it is difficult to wait, but we didn’t want to deny admission to you if there was any chance we could possibly have enough funding to make an offer.  I’m sorry I can’t be any more enlightening. "

So thats waitlist, right?

In at LSE for MSc in IR research....not exactly my top choice but at least I have an option for next year. Hoping NYU isn't done admitting

I'd love to claim ANYTHING

I can claim a rejection from Vandy! Thats the only news I have received. I kind of lost my anxiety mojo the last two days, almost like I don't care...Is it possible that the process can make you apathetic?

Does anyone know if all of the OSU acceptances have been released? I keep checking the website, but my status still stubbornly reads "Your application has been sent to the graduate program for academic review."

I claim one of the NYU admits. I'm SO unbelievably excited. I got the email and literally burst into tears. Good luck to everybody else, and congrats to all the other admits of the day!

Wow...congrats all around.

As many have already said, for people still waiting for their first acceptance, don't get down! Luck does change. Have faith in all the work you put in.

Damn, well looks like I'm out at NYU. Hope better news is coming on the PhD front. Deep congratulations all around to those who have been successful this season.
