whirlibird Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 could someone please put me into an artificial coma for the next few days??? There's gotta be a youtube video for that... ...about all the help I can give over the internet. And as a totally unlicensed medical amateur. Even when they call me Dr. I won't be a REAL one. blackcoffee64 and chaetzli 2
potbellypete Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Anyone else applying to Brown? I wonder when they'll start notifying folks? App deadline was Feb 1. I wouldnt expect to hear anything until beginning of March -- thats when decisions were last year. blackcoffee64 1
blackcoffee64 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 it's 11:30 and nothing...i'm starting to get annoyed with my inbox. chaetzli, blackcoffee64 and Overtherainbow 3
ohsnap Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I don't think I can handle another slow day. I still have to hear back from 5 places. That's more than half of my applications. Please put me out of my misery so I can start trying to make a decision. AuldReekie and chaetzli 1 1

Please put me out of my misery so I can start trying to make a decision. I'm in favor of a National Results Release day... like ripping off a bandaid; I'd rather just hear from everyone all at once and get it over with. AuldReekie, wordshadow, chaetzli and 1 other 3 1
balledematch Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I can't really handle another slow day because I haven't heard anything positive back from a PhD program, yet! I'd honestly sign in blood to the first place I hear back from.

wordshadow Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Anybody have predictions for when Minnesota will be releasing?
Megan Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I'm in favor of a National Results Release day... like ripping off a bandaid; I'd rather just hear from everyone all at once and get it over with. I literally JUST said this to a friend. Even if it meant finding out a bit later, I would still rather know that on March 12th I'm going to wake up and have an inbox full of yes or no emails. So much less stress.

bodywithoutorgans Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Anybody have predictions for when Minnesota will be releasing? I was accepted to Minnesota. The DGS called my cell on Sunday night.
balledematch Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 All quiet on the western front ...this is making my class/current meeting very difficult to sit through
CooCooCachoo Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 (edited) I was accepted to Minnesota. The DGS called my cell on Sunday night. I think they are doing it per subfield. You are theory, right? I was notified on Tuesday that my application was forwarded to the adcom. My subfield is IR. Edited February 16, 2012 by CooCooCachoo
balderdash Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 I don't know if it's better to check email first, see nothing, then think "please no Princeton, please no Princeton" as I let the results page load, or to wait until I see a school on the results page, then think "GO ON MY SON" as my gmail loads. I think I prefer the second.
CooCooCachoo Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 ...this is making my class/current meeting very difficult to sit through I'm transcribing, which is awfully boring and time-consuming, so I keep refreshing as well. The lack of news is rivaling transcription in tediousness.
Secret Squirrel Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I like that FOURTY THREE people are currently reading this topic. Well, 43 people, I am going frigging insane at the prospect of being shut out. Any suggestions for what type of job I should try to get when academia doesn't work out? I'm thinking some sort of businessy thing maybe. Or do I need an MBA for that?
balledematch Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I don't know if it's better to check email first, see nothing, then think "please no Princeton, please no Princeton" as I let the results page load, or to wait until I see a school on the results page, then think "GO ON MY SON" as my gmail loads. I think I prefer the second. I agree. I get email pushed to my phone and it is horrible. I always expect there to be something, but when there isn't, I immediately rush to the results page. Sad life.

ohsnap Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I really think Princeton is going to be tomorrow. If i had to lay a bet, I would guess tomorrow, 5 PM EST. Do you have info, or are you guessing?
Megan Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Do you have info, or are you guessing? Guessing. Absolutely no information of any kind except that gut feeling that says I shouldn't go out tomorrow night until after 11 PM my time.
kolja00 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 This lack of news is worse than a rejection I think. At least there you have some closure. PickMe! and WorldMan 1 1
edost Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Any suggestions for what type of job I should try to get when academia doesn't work out? How about working at a graduate school admissions office?
