shmwy Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 yup. I see that you also applied to slade? glad to see that you haven't heard back either! last year interviews were sent out on the 3rd, so its possible we will soon hear... Ack! That's terrifying. I never even got an email telling me that they had or had not received my portfolio in the mail. Did you? I'm not sure how to feel about the whole situation really. I wanted to apply for an MFA program in London as it was where I grew up, so I really hope things go okay.....
l'artiste Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 I applied to Michigan and UCSB as well, but have not heard anything...esp. from Mich (though, I know their interviews are supposed to be mid-this month, so not feeling confident about that school). I got an email from UofM almost 2 weeks ago for an interview. It is either this coming week or the following week. Maybe they will do a round two?
liam.zev Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Congratulations to those accepted and good luck to the interviewees!!!! YOU GOT THIS. Has anyone heard from Herron, Hope, or Michigan, yet? I applied to Michigan and UCSB as well, but have not heard anything...esp. from Mich (though, I know their interviews are supposed to be mid-this month, so not feeling confident about that school)...I have seen a couple people get accepted to UCSB, as well as rejected, back around 01/20-23...so, my guess is, we are still in the running for "Second Round". Wish us luck! And, again, congrats to the Yale people for interviews! Hope you guys kill it. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Michigan is having interviews on Feb. 10 and 17. They sent out invitations a litte over a week ago. Best of luck!

No i didnt get an email either! I just assumed they got there safely. And sorry! I didn't want to terrify you..did you apply for painting?

OutWest Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Yale fascinates me in the sense that, I wonder how it gets so much love?...It is Eastern seaboard and near NYC, so that's easy to understand (potential for gallerists to come by), it has had some awesome teachers (Albers in painting, some terrific photogs, etc), but there are so many other schools out there that are just as awesome and perhaps more so. Certainly VCU , for instance...their sculpture seems to have even more professorial weight in the art world and those students have the same opportunities for gallery people to swing by and take a peak (but, like all schools, this is no guarantee). MICA too. RISD...so, anyway, I'm surprised by the Yale "mystique". Maybr it's those killer, ivy covered Neo-Gothic classrooms...hell, I'd go there just to get drunk and wander the campus, lol. All of that being said, none of this is meant to take away from those going to interview, nor the program itself...just more of a sociological question.

liam.zev Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) Did they tell you which day you are yet? I'm going on Feb. 10. You? ///@Outwest: Thanks! Edited February 4, 2012 by liam.zev
l'artiste Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 I'm going on Feb. 10. You? They still haven't told me When did they tell you your date? Are you flying in?
liam.zev Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 They still haven't told me When did they tell you your date? Are you flying in? They told me the same day (I requested Feb. 10 and they said it was fine). I'm flying in from PDX, so maybe they're trying to arrange the faraway visitors first? I feel like they should have told you by now. Are you in state?
shmwy Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 No i didnt get an email either! I just assumed they got there safely. And sorry! I didn't want to terrify you..did you apply for painting? Yes I applied for painting. I'm really glad you had the same non-response as I did! That's relaxed me a bit. Your work seems to be a fine fit for their program, so best of luck! I'm not so sure of mine however, as it is representational, and kind of "illustrative."

Hmmm I live out of the country, so it was supposed to be via skype, and I requested the 17, so maybe they're arranging the people who are flying etc. first. I will have to email them and see! Good luck with your interview though, and let me know what you think!

Fool4nine Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Got rejected from MassART but accepted their post bac.... :/ When and how, did you find out about MassART? I've heard nothing from them so far.
lamouchemorte Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 I got invited to an interview at Yale for the mfa painting/printmaking program. Does anyone know how good my chances are now? Also, how big of a factor is it that I actually go to the interview as opposed to having a Skype session? I'll probably go anyway but I'm wondering if anybody has any info and/or tips.

brown06 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 MassArt has a great department, I worked with Roger tibbets who heads up the place last semester, he is AWESOME. To answer lololauren, no we have a much better chance of getting rejected after the interview than getting in. I think the odds of acceptance for us now linger around 30%. Ive spoken with countless people in my program (professors and previous students) who have gotten interviews and been rejected. Hard part isn't over.
R. Mutt Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 me too! excitement quickly giving way to more stress ... what department ?
brown06 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 sorry not lololauren but lamouchemorte i was replying to.
ol'spice Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Yale= rejected. been out drinking since they sent me the email at 11PM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F*CK ;( hang in there. I was doing the same thing after my rejection. And then I told myself: make art that would make them regret not accepting me!

Best of luck! Yeah, I had read that they send out interview invitations by early February on their website, so figured I'd been cut just haven't heard officially, yet. Le tear.
tubularculosis Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 what department ? low-grade erotica / world-class violence kazoo and worldly 2
jldstudio Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Some of the schools I was looking into didn't have an official day for visits, they just let you schedule a time to come during the fall term. Others only let you come on a specific visit day. It all depends I suppose on the school. I was thinking more like recruitment days after acceptances, do most offer that? Doubtful I could afford to travel much anyways.
sculptor Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I just read a great article written last year by an MFA (writing, not visual art) program director. It's a good read. http://chronicle.com/blogs/arts/m-f-a-application-season-etiquette/29172 OutWest and kazoo 2
