tedjj Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 to octav1an ! when did you hear from UMich? Did you apply to EE:Systems or CSE?
michigantrumpet Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 As an undergrad at UMich, I can tell you that ECE and CSE division admissions are handled separately. I know a professor on the CSE admissions committee who said they had a loooong meeting on Friday (yesterday). I think those decisions will be sent out soon... not sure if any of the notifications have been CSE or just ECE.
tedjj Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I see. I know computer vision is part of EE:Systems but there is also a prof doing research in cv/robotics in CSE department (where I applied - my top choice:D) so that's why I asked. I guess it is next week then when they send decisions.
michigantrumpet Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Congrats to everyone who has heard from Berkeley. May I ask if you're EE or CS?
leogk Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 hmmm.... A lot of people started posting they've got admission notification. It is not a good sign for me because I've got no message.... I know UC Berkeley and Stanford are two most toughest schools to get in in CS.
michigantrumpet Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I know ahhh. I had four UCB interviews, too! I know of someone else who had CS interviews but hasn't heard anything. I'm guessing these are all people on the EE side. I'm pretty sure the admissions are handled separately, as they are at most schools. I hope we hear soon :-/
mav3rick Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I too got an interview from Berkeley, Computer Science which went on fine... haven't heard anything about the results though... the wait definitely kills!
bernard Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I am international applicant and I was Berkeley-interviewed two weeks ago. I also haven't heard back... I am really worried now. (I remember I was told in the phone that I would hear by end of next week)
tedjj Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 UMich started sending out decisions. Wonder if the system is automated or if someone sends the email.
octav1an Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 yes, it was EE:Systems to the person that asked. dang, i haven't received anything from Berkeley. looks like a couple got rejections already from them today!
octav1an Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 UMich started sending out decisions. Wonder if the system is automated or if someone sends the email. if you applied to computer vision @ UMich, did you contact the 'new' prof there? I remember seeing he asked applicants to contact him.
michigantrumpet Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 CSE @ UMich is still in the middle of notifications. I was meeting with a prof today (not about admissions) and another prof walked in and handed him three applicant folders for him to contact and invite to visit. So, don't worry yet. I'm keeping the identity and areas of specialization anonymous, so please don't ask.
p0limorph Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Anybody has any updates about UC Berkeley CS PhD decisions ? I saw one guy probably got into AI.
alext Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Seconding the request for any berkeley CS information - also, they haven't emailed/called/tried to setup interviews, does that basically mean I'm not getting in?
p0limorph Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Hey alext. I am also in the same situation as you are and I am really worried
defmacro Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Also in the same boat. I even did a summer worth of research there .
kuntal Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 i applied for cs phd in few schools for fall 09 and now kind of freaking out with all that waiting and anticipation. meanwhile just wondering, how many of you guys applied for specialization in graphics... anyone?
octav1an Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 MIT met all day today to determine the fate of the applications! leogk, have you heard anything form your advisor? I applied to him also
leogk Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 MIT met all day today to determine the fate of the applications! leogk, have you heard anything form your advisor? I applied to him also  Ooooops... octav1an, how did you know that? Are you in MIT, too? I met him three times today but I didn't hear anything about the admission and I didn't even know today is a decision day. No students know anything about admission.... so I cannot find anyone who I can ask of it. (On the other hand, in CMU, PhD students can also participate in admission committee.)
octav1an Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 i can't say how i know () i think MIT decisions will be out next week.... someone just posted an UC Berkeley acceptance on the results page...
michigantrumpet Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 That was me this time. It's weird that they didn't send out a whole batch.
octav1an Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 That was me this time. It's weird that they didn't send out a whole batch. congratulations!! i figured out it was probably you based on the specialization/comment! how do you know they didn't send out a whole batch? (well, besides the fact that no one else has posted a result yet)
michigantrumpet Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 That's all I was going off of... isn't everyone on gradcafe?
PCP Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Well, Berkeley sent at least two accepts. I got one too.
bernard Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 PCP, congratulations. Can I ask you what your area is?
