Calm before the storm or the eye of the storm. All I know is that there is a storm in there somewhere--sheesh, grad cafe + waiting makes you into a catastrophic thinker.

I thought the same thing, then I realized, first day back after a 3-day (and in many cases, 4-day) holiday. I expect things will get crazy on Wednesday-Friday, but for right now people are probably just settling in back to work post-long weekend.

Thus, YOU CAN ALL DO THIS. Re-Group next year (like so many of us have done), and come back stronger.

yeah, well. I'll do it, but I'm too old to stuff another wasted year under my belt. as things stand right now, there are zero prospects between today and fall 2013. too long a period of time to resign to nothingness, but not long enough to do anything about it. maybe I'll pretend to write a book.

Maybe they don't want to ruin Fat Tuesday and are trying to save all the horrible news for Lent, then I can cry into a box of stale paczkis.

HAHA! Yes, this is most certainly BC's strategy - I predict a flood of rejextions from those Jesuits tomorrow (ash wednesday).

nothing gets my ass in a pew faster than heartbreak, rejection, and the cold void created by another university off the list...

I haven't gotten in anywhere yet, and I've been watching a lot of Intervention and Hoarders to feel better about my life. Is that bad? Doo doo doo doo.

Add My 600 lb. Life into the mix, and we could be roommates.

Does that mean no one heard anything back today? Why do you think they do this in waves? Wouldn't it be easier for all the universities to pick a day and let the wailing permeate the air at the same time? I would feel so much better just grieving at the same time for all my rejections. :( + deluge of tears

I have one official and two implied rejections so far, and I really don't think things are going to turn around for me. I thought I proposed an interesting and unusual topic in my SOP, but, now, I think I may have doomed myself by talking about postmodern pornography.

I'm wondering about that too, talking about the punk rock counterculture and left anarchist narratives.

You know what I've never ever seen on this board? Shakespeare scholars.

I'm a Shakespearean. =)

The temporal relationship between the Middle Ages and popular culture as viewed through the framework of Freudian deferred action. FAIL.

Could be a problem with where you applied--Penn has Kenny Goldsmith, who teaches an undergrad course called "Robotica Erotica." You watch a whole lotta pornography in that class.

At this point, I'm going to go out on a limb and tell you you haven't doomed yourself. I wrote about oneirocriticism in Kathy Acker's Empire of the Senseless in my writing sample so postmodern pornography can work. Did you apply to Brandeis and UCR? Those were the only 2 schools I could find with Kathy Acker scholars in the faculty.

Received my first official rejection from WUSTL this morning. I kind of expected it, since they sent out acceptances the first of February. However, I held out hope for a wait list. "Over a hundred applicants, 8-10 spots." Blah, blah. I have a feeling this is indicative to how the rest of my responses will turn out.

It is truly sad when I look at those numbers and think, "wow, 8% is good odds!".

Yeah, I thought the same thing; it's better than 3 or 5%. It makes it more unfortunate when rejected with an 8% acceptance rate...even thought it's still tough.
