Update on NYU from SPSP: A faculty member (not my POI) approached me at SPSP and we talked for a long time. He said that they have made a shortlist ("weeded out about 230 applications" were his words) and are making decisions this week. It wasn't clear if those were acceptance decisions or interview decisions, but if you haven't heard, there's still hope!

I was also approached by POI from CU Boulder, so I'm guessing they haven't made any decisions yet, but I'm not sure.

Can the UW poster send me your POI?

I had an interview with NYU faculty at SPSP - if you're in social, decisions are being made today about who gets in-person interview. So expect notification either today or the next few days

Any updates on cognitive or developmental programs (particularly at Harvard and NYU)? I assume that the decisions for different programs, even within a psychology department, are not made by the same people and that notification schedules may vary. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes!! It would be great to find out if Harvard (esp. developmental for me) has contacted applicants already who just haven't posted it here, or if they haven't invited people for interviews at all. Has anyone heard anything?

didn't apply to NYU or Harvard but I applied to the four cog psych programs in my profile. CMU sent out interviews before the new year (!), princeton/vanderbilt sent out interview around the 15th I think it was and I heard from dartmouth on the 18th... I would assume most programs would have sent out interviews by now...

also you're right. Vanderbilt developmental psych sent out emails a week before cog psych did, and Princeton neuroscience sent out invites like 3 weeks before psych (completely different depts I know, but still you'd think there'd be some overlap) so I imagine that there is some variation within departments at some schools

Thanks for the info. It seems unlikely, but I'll just have to hope that Harvard and NYU are super late this year. I've been in touch with a few people in the departments about other issues, so maybe they can give me the bad news a little sooner. I'll be sure to post if I find out.

Who did you interview with at SPSP from NYU?

Just heard this from one of my PsOI at Harvard:

"Thank you for your interest in this program. We have a very limited number of slots so we always have to consider how to balance research interests across our group. This year we are primarily considering students with an interest in conceptual development, social cognition, and neuroscience".

Not great for me since I'm focusing on language, but might be good news for some of you. I don't think invitations have gone out.

Who is your POI??

Did anyone get the invites....? so nervous!!!

I posted this a few weeks ago, but for the people wondering about Harvard: I received an email from my POI at Harvard (social psych) in early Jan inviting me for an interview. It seems that Harvard doesn't have an official interview process and leaves it up to individual faculty members, so I don't think my invite would be indicative of when others might have/might go out.

Thanks GnomeChomsky for the info. I'm a bit surprised though; I didn't know of any developmental people at Harvard psych doing neuro stuff. Unless that was in reference to the cognitive people.

Also, thanks mmm2. I had seen your post, but had made the same assumption that it may not be indicative of other areas. In any case, I don't even have a clue what my chances are at this point, but waiting it out is certainly not fun.

Has anyone heard from Cushman or Malle at Brown?

I had a decently pleasant email exchange with Dr Cushman in ~October, but haven't heard anything from him or the adcom since applying...

Who got the NYU Interview? Can you PM me your POI please?

I posted the NYU interview and I'd be happy to PM anyone who is interested in who my POI is.

Has anyone heard from Cushman or Malle at Brown?

Brown is notoriously late about sending out invites; they usually have their interview in late February.

Has anyone heard anything, personally or from someone else, what the deal is with Columbia and Duke? I haven't seen much of anything about these two in the results.

I heard back from my POI, but about Fuqua, not from psychology department.. they told me that they ARE reading through applications (sounded like 'just started).

Maybe Brown does more than one round of interview weekends. However, several people posted about receiving invites last week and when I called the school, was informed they had already sent out invites.

Interesting... You applied to Booth as well, right? They're also pretty dang late, just fyi. Maybe it's a business school thing.

latest NYU post was me. if you PM me i can tell POI. Visit weekend march 1st. It appears that they are doing it by professor so there may still be hope if you still haven't heard.

Weird, I called last week and they said they were still sending invites out. *shrug*
