Just got my first acceptance! Wow, I had no idea it would feel this good. Good luck to all my other buddies out here!

Yay! Congrats, bdon!

Does anyone else imagine this is what the rapture would be like? Waiting to see who gets taken away to graduate school heaven (or purgatory) while us sinners remain.....LEFT BEHIND.

HAHAHAHAHA. This is my favorite (and the most accurate!) grad cafe comment ever. :D

Congratulations to all of you who have been accepted! It's nice to see so much positive energy around here after months of anxiety.

Agreed! Now let's just hope it trickles down to the rest of us still in purgatory... : )

Congrats, and...! That's awesome. I heard back unexpectedly early from a program today, too. It feels gooooood. :-)

But someone posted a phone interview (?!?!) with Penn Comp Lit...aaagggghhhh...I didn't even know they did that!

I felt the same way when I saw that, enzian! I hope I hear something, but I completely dread phone interviews.

Likewise: "PLEASE CALL ME but please, please don't ask me any questions."

You got into Kansas?

From what it looks like, Enzian got into Kansas' CREES program, which is russian and eastern european studies.

Exactly right. It is but a humble MA program. I want the goods.*

*Which is not to say I won't be totally psyched if I get into Kansas and nowhere else. But wouldn't it be great to just skip right to the fully-funded PhD? *wistfulness*

I would just like to say, as a recent discoverer of this website/forum, that this website is ruining my life/ability to finish homework in a timely manner.

Yes. A thousand times, yes.

I have a paper (admittedly a short and not-too-important one) on Stein due tomorrow morning for the ONLY class I'm taking right now that I actually need to pass in order to get my official "You've Graduated! Good Job!" stamp.....but I can't even get started because I'm now obsessed with this forum.

:(

Farts.

On a related note, anyone have anything brilliant to say about "The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas"? I'm sooooooooo not a modernist, nor am I into novels. Or Gertrude Stein. *sigh* I look forward to the days when all I ever have to read/write about is 17thC lyric poetry.......

Fuck you, novels. Fuck you.

And while I'm at it, fuck you, twentieth century. You sucked.

(Can we swear on these boards? If not, and I'm about to be booted....'twas lovely reading you all.Best of luck. Now I can get some damn work done! :P )

Ugh, I can't stand Gertrude Stein. I admittedly have little exposure to her (only a handful of her poems), but I found the poetry to be fucking horrid.

(And yes, liberal doses of profanity--and alcohol--are not only acceptable but expected. These are the literature boards, after all. ;) )

Dorinda, I see you've been accepted to both Chicago and Duke. Congrats! I did my MA at Chicago and was so close at Duke last year. Alas, not meant to be, but you're area isn't much later than mine. Are you wanting to work with Strier and Scodel at Chicago and/or Quilligan at Duke?

For all those who care about UT Austin--I just got an e-mail from one of my letter writers who said that UT had contacted her about a missing letter of rec, and that they needed to have it sent in ASAP. At the VERY least this suggests app review has just begun over there (and that we haven't been rejected yet!). It's impossible to gauge what it means, but I selfishly hope it indicates that they're past their preliminary round and getting down to the nitty gritty, given that they usually notify right after Presidents' Day weekend. I realize their app deadline was extended though, so it probably just means the AdCom also convened later this year. Either way, thought I would share :)
