papillon_pourpre Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I've recently been accepted to do a PhD in French and am going out for a visit March 2 and 3. Anyone else coming?
svh Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I'll be out there at that exact same time for social psychology.
-hermes- Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I can't believe I had to go to the last page in this section to find the thread for NYU! I see you both chose NYU from the time you posted here last =)
hopefulslp Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I'll be attending NYU too this fall for an MS in speech pathology!
HFH Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I got an acceptance letter for an MA General Psychology. so excited that i think i'd die! lol. Has anyone explored housing options. i guess there are limited on campus ptions for grad students
hopefulslp Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I was wondering about this too. Ideally I'd like to find roommates, so I guess that would have to happen first before I do anything else. I think the graduate housing is on a waitlist basis? I'm not sure, but I would imagine it's a bit on the pricey side. I could be wrong though, haha.
HFH Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 yes it has to be pricey. finding a roommate is the best thing that can happen to us. studios. apts in greenwhich village can be much affordable that way. how do we do that ahead of time?
svh Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 yeah, nyu! housing on manhattan just seems ridiculous. i seriously think a good option is jersey city, either in historic downtown or in hoboken. i've seen two bedrooms for less than $2000. then, it's just a fifteen minute path train ride to campus.
hopefulslp Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 if you go onto the NYU Home account, there's a housing registry for off-campus housing, there were a lot of pretty reasonably priced places there. Granted, I suppose you'd have to check them out before deciding, haha.
QxV Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I'll be at NYU this fall=)
svh Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I'll be at NYU this fall=) Hi!
omigoshlolz Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Moving from Canada to NYC in the fall! Attending NYU's Mental Health Counseling program! So excited!!
papillon_pourpre Posted April 20, 2012 Author Posted April 20, 2012 Is anyone else new to NYC too? Excited!! Me! Although it turns out I'm deferring for a year. I got a chance to do a teaching assistant program abroad and luckily my department is completely cool with me taking some time between undergrad and MA/PhD to do it. I'm still really excited to move to NYC though! I guess I'll just have something to look forward to for an extra 12 months.
HFH Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 God i ve ruled out on campus living. People! give ideas of housing! and how to avoid scam
-hermes- Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Moving from Canada to NYC in the fall! Attending NYU's Mental Health Counseling program! So excited!! Oh nice! I'm from U of T, how about you?
omigoshlolz Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Oh nice! I'm from U of T, how about you? Winnipeg!! Nice to see another Canadian! Excited? I know I am!
hopefulslp Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Does anyone have any ideas on how to find roommates? I tried to think of the least awkward way possible to accomplish this, but so far I can't think of anything, haha. any help is appreciated!
HFH Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 yes, go to off campus housing page on the uni website. you can find roommates
bjlowe Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I'll be starting at NYU this fall as well! MS in Global Affairs. This housing thing really is daunting! But not as scary as the debt I'll be getting myself into!
Galahad Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Winnipeg!! Nice to see another Canadian! Excited? I know I am! -hermes- and omigoshlolz... I'm glad I'm not alone! Technically I'm not a Canadian but my mom and brother live in Mississauga, I'm originally from Croatia and went to UPenn for my undergrad. But yes, the world suddenly seems like a much smaller place! Anyways, I'm accepted to Tisch for a MA in cinema studies and hoping that I'll be able to extend it on to a PhD.
-hermes- Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Winnipeg!! Nice to see another Canadian! Excited? I know I am! I'm actually not Canadian either, haha. Honourary Torontonian? I love the city.
Galahad Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 I'm actually not Canadian either, haha. Honourary Torontonian? I love the city. "Honorary Torontonian"... yup I'll take the title gladly as well. Don't mean to get all super-crazy-creepy but if you want to meet up to discuss NYU and whatnot in person I'm down for it!
