milan.biratnagar@gmail.com Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Hello there, I am waiting to hear from the graduate schools in Statistics/Biostatistics for Fall 2012. I am not a high achiever. My undergraduate (major: Statistics) gpa is 3.59 and my graduate(MS in Math) gpa in 3.39, gre (750+490)...I have done research in statistics and working towards getting a paper published...I have "a little below expert" programming skills in R... I have applied to schools like UC-Riverside, Utah State University, University of Kansas, and George Washington. I was wondering if anyone could guide me through my chances of getting funded at any of the above schools...I am quite stressed about it....
MATSTAT Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I am on the same boat as you. Applied to UC-Riverside's Applied Stat program and haven't heard back yet. I emailed the secretary twice regarding my application. The first time, she said the results will be released in Feb. The second time, she said that graduate advisor will get back to me soon, but he hasn't yet. I tried to email the graduate advisor, but he hasn't responding to me yet. The wait is killing me. My profile is somewhat similar to yours. Hopefully someone has some input on the difficulty of obtaining funding from UCR's statistics program.
milan.biratnagar@gmail.com Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Mate, I feel for you...I have wrote to the graduate director several times...I never heard back from him...my best wishes for you
californiastats Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I just declined an offer from UCR. Hopefully it will be offered to one of you guys. Best of luck to you both.
MATSTAT Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 @californiastats Hopefully it does =). Also if you dont mind, could you share us your profile? Kind of curious the type of people who get accepted to UCR but decline their offer.
californiastats Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) Undergrad GPA 3.7 (Stats major) GRE 800 Q 700 V I got into other schools I'm more interested in, so I dropped from UCR. Edited March 8, 2012 by californiastats
ANDS! Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I would go easy on the emails; they are likely being bombarded by similar emails to yours. If it says your application has been reviewed and is being reviewed - I would imagine it is. Give it time, a watched pot doesn't boil. Bayesian1701 and R Deckard 1 1
