Daisy Spiegelman Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Congratulations, SunnyComposer! (funding issue, notwithstanding)
hiroshiman Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I'm supposed to hear from NW this week and I am on pins and needles.
Daisy Spiegelman Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Is it just me, or does it seem like every department in the country has announced its decisions except for music?
hiroshiman Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 (edited) Got my first acceptance today - from CU Boulder. Nice to know that whatever happens, this year won't be a shutout. Edited February 26, 2013 by hiroshiman
hiroshiman Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 And big congrats to the McGill acceptance!
netp Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Hello everyone, I dont know if this is the right forum for posting this (so forgive me if I break any forum rules) I am an Engineering student from India who has been working in Signal Processing especially in Speech/Sound. Merging it with my passion for music I came into Music Retrieval/Signal Processing and have been working on several research topics over the past year. As I was applying for Fall 2013 grad studies I had also applied to Stanford's MA/MST program (dream) offered in collaboration with CCRMA research group (computer sc.). This seemed tailor made for my kind of research interests and I had been in touch with Prof. Julius Smith from Stan. Today I received my acceptance from Stanford's MA/MST program!! I am extremely happy and excited. I need to start doing some research now about the coursework, fees, about stan, music in general etc. Any help from seniors or people in my field would be really helpful. Since I don't have any other students from my Undergrad university working in my field.
Daisy Spiegelman Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Congratulations, netp! I'm afraid I have none of the information you requested, but stick around this forum -- and maybe check out the engineering fora, as well. You may also want to try asking Stanford directly for alumni discussion groups. How exciting for you!
hiroshiman Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Really excited about Northwestern - the faculty are a fantastic fit for me, great financial package, and it was my top choice.
Karajan Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Really excited about Northwestern - the faculty are a fantastic fit for me, great financial package, and it was my top choice. Wahoo! Congratulations!! I was really hoping it was you! :) hiroshiman 1

Daisy Spiegelman Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Congratulations, Hiroshiman! FANTASTIC news!!! I lived in Chicago for three years -- the music there is great!
kccur Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Really excited about Northwestern - the faculty are a fantastic fit for me, great financial package, and it was my top choice. Props! And in case you need another thing to be excited about, from my (very limited) experience, the Northwestern musicologist grad students are a fantastic bunch. hiroshiman 1
TheComposer500 Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Congratulations!!! That's a really good program.
hiroshiman Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 (edited) Thanks guys! I should mention that this is my second time through the application process (previously applied to NW for fall 2011). Edited February 28, 2013 by hiroshiman
Daisy Spiegelman Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Just got rejected by CUNY. I'm disappointed, but it's not the end of the world. Apparently, even with a fellowship, after the first year if the student does not establish New York residency s/he is responsible for the tuition at the in-state rate and I am not in a position to incur that expense. Okay, so let's see what UPenn, Columbia, and NYU have to say.

catenaires Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Is anybody here going to CUNY's Prospective Students' day? Have they sent any information about it to anyone??
Jojojohnhnhn Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Any word on composition at CU Boulder?
Daisy Spiegelman Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Hi, musicmage09, Would you happen to know if all the invitations to interview at UPenn have been sent? How about Columbia and NYU? But for my two rejections, I have heard nothing from any school.
musichistorygeek Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 Is anybody here going to CUNY's Prospective Students' day? Have they sent any information about it to anyone?? I'm considering going. I emailed Anne Stone for a general schedule (since I'm also trying to combine the trip with catching up with family) and she said that the day generally goes from 10:30-5ish and will include a library tour, meetings with faculty, lunch with current students, and a reception.
musicmage09 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Hi, musicmage09, Would you happen to know if all the invitations to interview at UPenn have been sent? How about Columbia and NYU? But for my two rejections, I have heard nothing from any school. I received a somewhat generic email from their graduate assistant last Wednesday asking for specific times to conduct an interview. My response was then forwarded to my POI, but I am not sure if all the invitations have gone out yet. You could probably email the graduate student and ask if all invitations have gone out. Send me a message if you want the email address. I received my acceptance from Columbia last week, and again I do not know if they sent out the other acceptances at the same time. I know nothing about NYU as I did not apply, but it seems some other people on this forum are also waiting to hear.from programs there.
Daisy Spiegelman Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Thanks for the information, musicmage09. Not the best news, but I'd rather have a realistic expectation than continue with this waiting.
