Check the results search for last year's results from the programs? (Or...don't, because that is not a rabbit hole you want to go down).

Notre Dame usually does late January notifications for late February interviews. IIRC, that has tended to be on the later side. My impression has been that most humanities depts who do interviews hold them sometime in Feb.

Do you know if Notre Dame does in person interviews or skype or phone?

Hi, all. First post here. Count me among the ranks of those hoping for an interview invite at Duke within the next few weeks.

There hasn't been much activity on Grad Cafe this application season. I'm going to go ahead and assume that there has been a sudden drop in prospective students and that we are all going to get acceptances, full funding, and generous stipends.

Finally got registered here. I'm finishing my master's at NYU in religious studies-- and applying to PhD programs also in RS-- but not in any specific tradition. My research interests are deeply theoretical (continental thought/critical theory/psychoanalysis/metaphysics) and oriented towards building scholarship on modernity and secularism in social life. So most of the programs I'm applying to are ones where the subfield or track is more oriented towards philosophy of religion type stuff. 

 

Just finished my applications to:

 

Brown (Religion & Critical Thought) 

Princeton (Philosophy of Religion)

Columbia (Philosophy of Religion)

Rice (Gnosticism, Esotericism, Mysticism)

Boston University (Religion & Society)

Fordham (Philosophy of Religion)

Northwestern (Critical Theory)

 

I'm really nervous and expecting rejections from probably every school. My GREs and GPA aren't great, though my letters and research proposal are. I really made an effort to meet the faculty of each program, particularly the ones I want to work with. I didn't hear back from any professors in Northwestern or Princeton (so that looks slim). The faculty in other programs were all glad to talk to me, and my meeting with all the faculty in the subfield I'm interested in at Brown were all very enthusiastic about my application. Almost all the faculty members I spoke with said I was a good fit based on my research interests and proposal. It's just luck at this point, I suppose. 

 

I also spent my anxiety time looking at Peterson's graduate school guide and looking at the statistics of admission for each school. ha. DYING OF NERVES.

Just now getting around to commenting on here.  I have a BA from Johnson University, a small Christian college in Knoxville, TN, and an M.Div. with a concentration in Christian Doctrine from Emmanuel Christian Seminary.  I have spent the last few years since graduating serving as an Associate/Youth Minister at a church.  I'm applying to doctoral programs in theology, and my principle interests are in theology and ethics, ecclesiology, postliberalism and Wittgenstein's influence on theology, and theological interpretation of Scripture.  I've applied to these schools:

Baylor

Marquette

Dayton

Duquesne

I wouldn't read too much into the Princeton professors not getting back to you. The religion, ethics, and politics / religion and philosophy subfield is stretched thin this year. Two of them (Eddie Glaude and Eric Gregory) are on sabbatical this year -- an unusual occurrence. Leora Batnitzky is the chair of the department this year and is very busy. Jeff Stout receives lots of emails a day and is obviously in high demand; he tries his best to respond but sometimes its impossible to keep up with the volume. This, however, shouldn't deter you from the program since they always make time for students in the program.

I, too, will jump on the train of finally commenting on this thread. I just finished all my applications and now I'm trying my best not to re-read over my statements of purpose or writing samples. Unfortunately, the only way I can convince myself not to do this is to check GradCafe way too much. Good luck to all as we wait to hear back....

I too am consumed with anxiety.  My GRE isn't great and letters probably subpar, but GPAs good.  Good luck!

I'm at Duke but I don't have any insider knowledge, so I'm just speculating here. I would guess whether more are coming depends on who they had do the emails. If it was the program coordinator or something, I'm guessing it would be fairly rapid fire. If it was the POIs or whatever prof they decided you'd fit best with, then there might be some staggering. I did log into my stuff and see that they haven't sent any rejections yet, so who knows.

Duke's deadline was one of the earliest--December 8.

For those wondering, I've heard off the record that several sub-disciplines at Duke haven't made any final decisions let alone sent any notifications. The source had no knowledge of what the NT people had or had not done. I'm really starting to wonder if a POI jumped the gun/sent something unofficial or something like that.
