tlm2338 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 So, am I to take it that Northwestern didn't do interviews if they are notifying next week? Granted I haven't read through the entire thread, but I don't recall anyone mentioning an interview.
Ramya Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Hi, Congratulations to everyone who's got firm offers and/or are waitlisted (at least its a foot in) I just saw some results for JHU. Does anyone know more? I am a bit cheesed off with the silence now. I am waiting to get rejections from Yale and JHU. Harvard I don't know what to think about. I didn't go out of my way to contact people at Harvard, but when I did, they responded. But I would be very surprised to hear anything positive from there. Has anyone heard anything concrete from Harvard Anthro? They should be sending out decisions starting today, is what they said. Sigh. Finish this already!
mesoholic Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Hi Ramya- I also applied to Yale and Harvard and haven't heard anything yet. I know the two people that posted acceptances for Yale heard from POI's so as far as I can tell, we still may have a glimmer of hope there. As for Harvard, not sure what to say :/
Ramya Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Hey mesoholic, I know Yale sends out rejections only after the cohort is more or less certain (unless you are rejected in the first round of sifting that happens, in which case the rejection comes sometime in February). So I am hoping next week is the week for Yale. I am more or less certain to be rejected, but I would just like to hear it. Harvard, well, hopefully I should get a letter in the mail next week
mesoholic Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Keep your head up Ramya! I applied to the archaeology subdivision at Yale which I know is relatively small compared to socio-cultural and bio. I went out there and met with my POI and other faculty but of course there is no way to be certain of anything. At least we made the first cut I think you are right…next week should be the week for Yale and Harvard. Rapang 1

Today, when I wrote to the graduate administrator, I got the following reply: "Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, due to Graduate School Admissions policies, I am not at liberty to discuss admissions decisions with applicants. However, I can tell you that all letters regarding admissions decisions will be mailed from the Graduate School by March 15th. If you fail to receive a letter soon after that date, you should contact Graduate School Admissions office by e-mail" tovenusandback 1
Ramya Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Thanks canevren! Jeez! That makes this longer. Annoying.
Lexicon Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Okay I swear I'm not going to spam, I'm just posting this in two threads and then I'll stop. If anyone is thinking of turning down an offer from the University of Oregon (sociocultural) would you maybe PM me or something. I'm first on the waitlist and I'm selfishly hoping the admitted students get fantastic offers from other schools that are better fits so that I can have a spot
canevren Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Thanks canevren! Jeez! That makes this longer. Annoying. Ramya, I am international student, and living in Istanbul which makes me think that I might receive the letter - whether an acceptance or rejection - from Harvard a bit after those in the States. I'd be delighted if you could (or anyone else who's waiting from Harvard) post here when you receive the mail so that I could predict whenabouts to look for an incoming letter from the postal service. Postal system sometimes can be tricky here. And, do you think Harvard sends all letters on the same day? thanks
primus Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Hi, I just saw some results for JHU. Does anyone know more? I am a bit cheesed off with the silence now. I am waiting to get rejections from Yale and JHU. Ramya, I also applied to JHU and am on the waitlist. As far as I know, the faculty members have completed their readings of the applications and offered addmissions while they have sent e-mail to those who are on the list. Hope, this works for you.

I'm also on the waitlist after interviewing, and the email they sent out made it sound like they've sent out all their acceptance/waitlist notifications.

aled Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I've been lurking as a non-member for a while, but figured I might as well start posting. The anxiety from waiting is insane. I've been rejected from 3 schools. Super competitive, so I wasn't too surprised. I noticed several Chicago rejections on the board, but I haven't heard anything from them (good or bad). I am not sure how to take that. Thoughts? Also, has anyone heard from Boston Univ or Teachers College? I saw some BU interviews on the board, but it seems that TC decisions don't go out until the end of March. I had an interview at BU last week - haven't heard more from them since. I can't say definitively if they had sent out all of their interview requests last week or not. I am sociocultural.

I got an email from Mark Palmer (BU) the other day saying they had over 140 applicants and the admissions process is slow. I'm an international application from Canada. I've heard nothing about interviews except on the board here. I'm so tired of waiting.
mesoholic Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Does anyone know if admission and rejections from Yale go out at the same time? I know that the people who were accepted from POI's have not received the official e-mail yet. Should they come out together next week, or admits first? Thanks!
AnthroPerson Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Forgot to say my unofficial rejection from my undergrad advisor/POI was Harvard (archaeology) and he said official notification will be out really soon.
Platysaurus Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 mesoholic I got an informal acceptance from my POI, he just said that the formal letter of acceptance was coming "soon". Anyone's guess what that means.
mesoholic Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Hi Platysaurus- what is your concentration in anthro? Mine is archaeo and I still have yet to hear anything from a POI.
mesoholic Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Mochicologa- do you know if acceptances have gone out for archaeology already? Armadilla 1

Ramya Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I am glad that there is some news. Hopefully Harvard will send out regular mail soon, I am really looking forward to hearing from them and the others Platysaurus, did you get an acceptance from Harvard? There was a waitlist post from Harvard, has anyone else gotten a letter in the mail?
Platysaurus Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 No no I've got nothing from Harvard, same as everyone else ...I'm not quite sure why supposedly one of the leading universities in the world still hasn't discovered email though. Allouette and tovenusandback 2
Ramya Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Haha.. well.. they don't interview either do they? (at least that's what their website says). I actually dont know how the admissions system works at Harvard, considering there are no interviews etc. How do faculty decide? And does anyone know how many intakes were there last year? (not that I have any chance at Harvard, but just for stats )
Ramya Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Hi everyone.... Sorry to spam, but I believe yale made three offers for bioanth. Anybody waitlisted at yale? I hope this week is the week for decisions notifications!
batcathat Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Does anyone know what's going on with UMass Amherst?? It looks like they sent out acceptances a couple weeks ago, but the rejections are slowly trickling in. I haven't heard anything from them so I'm assuming a rejection, but why aren't they telling everyone at the same time?
