  1. As I am sure you already know the application process is grueling and I don't understand why you won't just take it again and give yourself the BEST possible chance of entering a fully funded program. Your accomplishments are amazing and I'm sure you would be an asset to any department, why give them a reason to hesitate? I also have great stats, wonderful recommendations and a much higher gre score, but it was still a struggle to get funding. I'm not saying it is impossible to get accepted with those scores, but with the number of qualified applicants increasing exponentially why risk it, especially when the remedy is right in front of you. Either way good luck!
  2. I am NOT a Debbie Downer, but I just want to throw my two cents in: "a decision has been recommended to the Graduate School" is a bit vague. Most acceptances say " we have reccommended you for acceptance to the Graduate School" While their recommendation could have been an acceptance, which I hope it is, they also have to notify the GS of other decisions too. Good Luck!!!
  3. It has been YEARS since I've waited for the mailman, but Tom and I are now on a first name basis. He should be here in 3 hours...hopefully with some news.
  4. I used to love weekends, now I hate them. I never thought I would long for business days as much as I do now. I look forward to Mondays, because they at least holds the possibility of some news, maybe a letter or an email... anything is better than NOTHING! I have heard from all of my schools regarding admission decisions, but I'm still waiting on a few things before I make my final choice. I can only imagine how much worse this must be if you are waiting on an admissions decision.
  5. I used some of my favorite articles as a starting point. I looked up the authors and researched their institutions, this gave me my first list. Depending on how recent the articles were, I looked at the authors' CVs to see who their mentors/advisees were. Once I had a solid list of people who could help me advance in my topic of choice I emailed all of them and the ones who said they were taking students became my "short" list (I had about 10 schools on it), then I looked at competitiveness, funding and how my stats matched up. I had a limited budget for applications so I had to be careful with applying to too many reach school. There were a few other factors I looked at but this is how I got started. I hope this helps.
  6. I brought two sets of clothes for my interview weekend and ended up using the more casual set, but it was nice to have the option. I've found that with different departments there is either a formal or a casual air about them. My professor dinner was super casual with current grads, faculty, and even their kids. There was tons of wine/beer and everyone was buzzying around that I can't imagine a time where I could have given the host a gift while not being on display. If you do want to thank the host, a note or email the next day would be perfect not only is it just between you and the host, but it keeps your name on their mind and leaves a good impression. This is based on my weekend, which had 14 people and it was with an anthropology department. Either way good luck I'm sure your qualifications with supersede a small faux-pas.

  8. Rapang good luck with your other applications! who is your POI at Washu? I went there for undergrad and I'm just curious.
  9. On average how long does it take for the University's graduate school to approve the department's recommendation?
  10. Are there any grad students who live in Lucky?
  11. If you are talking about Minnesota twin cities, they made their decision at least a week ago. They did all subfoelds at the same time and pretty early compared to other schools.
  12. I'm looking into a graduate program at CWU and I was wondering what Ellensburg has to offer.
  13. Hi Guys, I applied to bio anthro programs, specifically in primate behavior and ecology. I applied to 4 PhD programs: CUNY, Wisconsin-Madison, U of Minnesota-twin cities, and UC Davis. This whole cycle has been frustrating! I was invited to Twin Cities for the interview weekend, but my POI has decide to go on sabbatical and not take new students. Sad, but that's acceptable. UC Davis on the other hand says they are not taking new primate students even though I spent a great deal of time emailing professors who said they would be taking students. One even had me write a 3 page paper describing my ideal project, which in response said "great I'll look out for your application". I haven't heard a peep out of Wisconsin or CUNY, does anyone have info about these two?
