nhswrestle Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 How should one respond to an acceptance e-mail/phone call? Do you just say something along the lines of "Thank you. I'm honored. And I'll let you know my decision after I hear back from my other schools?"

bluecheese Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Thanks for all of the kind words!!! Yeah, I think asking questions is good. But it is also okay to just send an initial "thank you" email. Also, I suspect next week is going to be busy: Duke, NYU, U Chicago, WUSTL, Northwestern, Penn State, Riverside, U of Washington, UC Riverside, Wayne State, Michigan State, SUNY Stony Brook, Notre Dame, etc. are all real possibilities based on past years (also, given how busy the end of this week has been, I suspect things are about to pick up pace).

That is the scariest post I've ever read! Haha, I'm excited though. bluecheese 1
bluecheese Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 It looks like two people got into WUSTL! Congrats!!!! (to whoever it was)
ohgoodness Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 It looks like two people got into WUSTL! Congrats!!!! (to whoever it was) Not my field but saw the acceptance on the result page and figured I would tip my hat to the 3rd timer getting in! Deadinthewater Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 So, for example, it seems that Buffalo sent out most of their acceptances around the same day last year. If we didn't hear from Buffalo on Friday, does that mean there's a pretty solid chance we just didn't get in?
bluecheese Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Yes, that's great that someone got an acceptance on their third go around. Persistence pays off! So, for example, it seems that Buffalo sent out most of their acceptances around the same day last year. If we didn't hear from Buffalo on Friday, does that mean there's a pretty solid chance we just didn't get in? I suspect there will be more acceptances coming from Buffalo. No need to worry yet.

In the past, Buffalo notified fellowship recipients at the same time as regular admits, but this year they notified fellowships first. Regular admits have not yet been notified.
DontHate Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 But why would you want to go if they don't give you a fellowship?
Two Espressos Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 But why would you want to go if they don't give you a fellowship? The regular admits to UB would be given TAships though I think. So it's still funded, unless I'm wrong about this?

bfat Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 girl who wears glasses: interdisciplinarity is spelled wrong in your signature. Didn't you hear? They officially changed the spelling. It's in the OED and everything. DontHate and Laokoon 1 1

"interdiciplinarity" is definitely not right and looking at it bugs me. Excuse me for thinking that an English major and "literature nerd" would want to correct the spelling in her signature. sadthatthisdefinesmylife Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Congrats on all the WUSTL/Buffalo love. does that sound weird?
DontHate Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 as long as it's consensual, it's fine with me!
slvitale Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I reiterate the congratulations for the Buffalo and WUSTL acceptees. As for everyone else: ready for another week of compulsive e-mail checking? It's Sunday night!!! I'm counting on Duke decisions this week
dazedandbemused Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Oh man, it's really happening! Since January started, I've been telling myself not to freak out because I'd be unlikely to hear anything until February. Only as I look at my calendar today do I realize: February is this week. Holy shit. Porridge, beet-nik and bluecheese 3
