NowMoreSerious Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Is anybody else watching their phone like a hawk and compulsively charging it to max power every two seconds?
sebastiansteddy Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 There's another OSU acceptance up (for rhet and comp). Mine still says "in review." Does anyone else still have "in review?"
bluecheese Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 It seems the acceptances for UC Santa Cruz's History of Consciousness program have gone out. I suspect that means rejection for me. I'm not particularly upset about it -- I knew it was a long shot (they admit a notoriously small number of applicants).
88literatureguy88 Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I just saw that new OSU acceptance. I'm still "in review" as well. Not sure exactly how the admission process works at OSU. Hoping that "in review" means that we've made it past the first cut. Anybody know anything about the OSU selection process?

Hoping that "in review" means that we've made it past the first cut. Anybody know anything about the OSU selection process? That sounds entirely plausible given that there are a bunch of rejections up already. That said, I suspect that Rhetoric, Composition, and Literacy have a separate application pool than the rest of the English dept. students (this is usually the case...). Were any of the previous rejections for the Rhetoric emphasis? Maybe no on has been rejected in that area?
88literatureguy88 Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I haven't seen any other rhet comp postings. Probably a smaller pool than the Eng lit apps. My guess is we find out what "in review" means next week.

Why is this process so agonizingly mysterious?!
bluecheese Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I'm sure they had a reading round (possibly done by graduate students, but not necessarily) and cut a large portion of the applicants. You must have made it past that stage -- so, that's positive!

HHEoS Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 There's another OSU acceptance up (for rhet and comp). Mine still says "in review." Does anyone else still have "in review?" Hey sebastiansteddy, mine still says "In Review". I suspect they make decisions in waves, but get this: I went through my emails from last year's application cycle and realized that OSU decided to change my "In Review" to a rejection in late February. This could be a terribly agonizing and fruitless wait, but I also remember that someone I know found out he was on OSU's wait list around the time I got that bad news last year. So basically, we might be left waiting forever. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

rems Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Bad news: OSU is a no go. The nerve of those people! First rejection. It stings, but I'm glad to get it out of the way. Good news: I finally have a chili pepper on ratemyprofessor. Troppman, TripWillis, sebastiansteddy and 2 others 5

ProfLorax Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I'm baaaaaaaaaack! Paris: snowy and magical. Rome: ancient and delicious. Loved them, but so happy to be back home and compulsively checking my email. OSU status still says "In Review." I'm rhet/comp, so there doesn't seem to be a method to their madness. Who knew that the words "In Review" would lead to my mental downfall?! HHEoS, Datatape and dazedandbemused 3
