Acceptance Freakout Thread

Nothing from Duke yet!?!? Of course, I am making assumptions based on precedents from 2012 :)

I didn't apply to Duke, but I'm pretty sure there are two posts in the "Results" section for interviews at Duke Lit dated today.

Thanks so much, guys! Loving the support.

Question: how is DE English seen in the academic world? I know what its US News ranking is, but I'm curious to know how it's seen from a scholarly point of view.

You're right! I'm waiting on Duke English, though

Can anyone claim the Delaware MA acceptance? Any additional info?

Hi! That was me! Congrats to you for your acceptance to the MA as well! It is definitely a relief to know there is something waiting for us come September! I imagine I have all the same info you have at this point; Dr. Larkin didn't mention anything about how/when others are notified, so I just have info on my offer and the program set-up itself.

Congrats to you, too!

And thanks, Datatape, for your congratulations. Seriously, you have 11 left to go. The best is yet to come! :)

Edit: I'm counting the waitlist as "left to go!"

For the record, I called UW-Madison, and they confirmed that *nearly* all the admits have been notified. The rest of us will hear definitively very soon as to where we stand. Good luck all!

Thanks for the info.  I assumed I had been rejected, but now I can more or less say for sure.

Does anyone have any idea why it takes so long for programs to inform a person of their failure? Clearly, several programs are admitting students right now, and I'm just wondering why those programs aren't as quick to let people know they have no shot. For instance, NYU; I imagine they've already called everyone they're going to call, but if the past two years are any indication, they won't send out "we hate you" emails until March.

Seriously, does anyone know why they make people wait that long?

NYU hasn't notified yet this season.  If they had, it would show up on the results board: NYU has a very popular program, so we'd definitely see something on there, even if no one from thegradcafe gets in (but I think someone will).

Anyone want to claim the Arizona State acceptance? We know you're out there...

Hah, that'd be me. I'm a rhet/comp person and the email directed me to the website for an official letter I can't access. Maybe tomorrow morning?

P.S. Your avatar is amazing.

Why thank you. Congrats, by the way.

I obviously have a vested interest in the ASU acceptances even though I'm lit. and not rhet/comp.

Love the Goldblum. You gotta ride that 'Blum. Like this!

I just received a voicemail on my phone from my last-choice school (I don't want to say the name yet because I'm not quite sure of the nature of the call. I will just say that it's a large state university which isn't terrible but is probably not anyone's first choice). The voicemail was the graduate chair saying he had "good news," but that he "really wanted to talk to me" before the weekend was over.

What am I supposed to expect during a phonecall like this? Is this phonecall probably going to be part of the decision-making process? How nervous should I be?

Congratulations! My guess is that you're accepted and he's calling to set up a meet-n-greet.

That sounds like good news to me. Congrats!
