HHEoS Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Nothing from Duke yet!?!? Of course, I am making assumptions based on precedents from 2012 I didn't apply to Duke, but I'm pretty sure there are two posts in the "Results" section for interviews at Duke Lit dated today.
waparys Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Thanks so much, guys! Loving the support. Question: how is DE English seen in the academic world? I know what its US News ranking is, but I'm curious to know how it's seen from a scholarly point of view.

gradschoolwannabe Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 You're right! I'm waiting on Duke English, though Me too!
Datatape Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 It was me! Thank you! It is a relief to know I have something concrete planned for September! Yaaaaaay! So glad at least one of us got in.
caitlee91 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Can anyone claim the Delaware MA acceptance? Any additional info? Hi! That was me! Congrats to you for your acceptance to the MA as well! It is definitely a relief to know there is something waiting for us come September! I imagine I have all the same info you have at this point; Dr. Larkin didn't mention anything about how/when others are notified, so I just have info on my offer and the program set-up itself.

Congrats to you, too! And thanks, Datatape, for your congratulations. Seriously, you have 11 left to go. The best is yet to come! Edit: I'm counting the waitlist as "left to go!" Two Espressos Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 For the record, I called UW-Madison, and they confirmed that *nearly* all the admits have been notified. The rest of us will hear definitively very soon as to where we stand. Good luck all! Thanks for the info. I assumed I had been rejected, but now I can more or less say for sure. Does anyone have any idea why it takes so long for programs to inform a person of their failure? Clearly, several programs are admitting students right now, and I'm just wondering why those programs aren't as quick to let people know they have no shot. For instance, NYU; I imagine they've already called everyone they're going to call, but if the past two years are any indication, they won't send out "we hate you" emails until March. Seriously, does anyone know why they make people wait that long? NYU hasn't notified yet this season. If they had, it would show up on the results board: NYU has a very popular program, so we'd definitely see something on there, even if no one from thegradcafe gets in (but I think someone will). JeremiahParadise Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 So, seeing another UW-Madison acceptance has caused me to wonder about their waitlist. Do we know anything about last year's? How's Madison do it? Do they do it?
mfmill03 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Anyone want to claim the Arizona State acceptance? We know you're out there...
damequixote Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Anyone want to claim the Arizona State acceptance? We know you're out there... Hah, that'd be me. I'm a rhet/comp person and the email directed me to the website for an official letter I can't access. Maybe tomorrow morning? P.S. Your avatar is amazing.

Love the Goldblum. You gotta ride that 'Blum. Like this! 1Q84 1
asleepawake Posted February 1, 2013 Author Posted February 1, 2013 Congrats damequixote! I wonder if they are doing Lit acceptances at the same time
sadthatthisdefinesmylife Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Is it paranoid for me to think that all these programs are just holding off doing notifications to drive me crazy?
t1racyjacks Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 that must be it. I thought that this week would have an influx of news but really this is more or less just a trickle. they're being nasty to us on purpose sadthatthisdefinesmylife 1
bluecheese Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Congrats to the Minnesota CSCL/CSDS acceptances! Awesome program!
DontHate Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Creative writing and literature ARE separate so I would assume that they are done separately. Just seems like common sense
bluecheese Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 That's a lot of creative writing news all at once.
bluecheese Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Congrats to the Northwestern admit! Yay! Great program!
Deadinthewater Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I just received a voicemail on my phone from my last-choice school (I don't want to say the name yet because I'm not quite sure of the nature of the call. I will just say that it's a large state university which isn't terrible but is probably not anyone's first choice). The voicemail was the graduate chair saying he had "good news," but that he "really wanted to talk to me" before the weekend was over. What am I supposed to expect during a phonecall like this? Is this phonecall probably going to be part of the decision-making process? How nervous should I be?

bluecheese Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 They probably try to tell people over the phone. I wouldn't worry about it.

Two Espressos Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Congrats to the Northwestern admit! Yay! Great program! Oh god, they've started to notify. I'm going to be nervously checking my phone all day, never getting anything done...
