the aural rehab course at USU is listed as having child AND adult according to their SLP program website... I would imagine that the online course listing search engine just hasn't been formally updated (which at some universities requires an act of congress).

I just applied / etc for USU pre-reqs to complete mine... and okay this is going to sound dumb, but I jumped into the SLP pre-reqs as quickly as possible last Summer because I knew that once I found my new dream (etc) I wanted to start immediately -- I'm kind of mad that I spent $1900 per class at Longwood when it could have been $700 or so at USU ... but oh well.  Hopefully USU will let me get my last couple of courses in.

And for anyone else doing pre-reqs --- I have spent HOURS upon HOURS looking for ANYONE who offered "observation hours" for university credit --- the USU program is the only one I have found that actually offers that.  This really changes the picture for me for my U of South Carolina application -- if I got in there, if I did NOT have the observation hours done, I would have to start on campus during Summer I, which means I have to quit my teaching job early ... ENTER KNIGHT ON WHITE HORSE ... just found the observation hours available at USU and I just emailed the coordinator at USC about updating my application to a provisional Fall entry as long as I provide transcripts of these completed classes.  AHHHH praying for pixie dust to make my application push through there... it's one of my TOP choices ... otherwise I would not have applied out of state at ALL!!!

I am under the impression USC hasn't even started reviewing yet. So I think you should be all good to go to have your app switched over!

And that definitely made me feel better.  Teresa at USC has been great via email so far, and she hadn't changed my application term to summer I yet online anyway ... hopefully she can update my application for FALL entry now!!! :-)

Wouldn't it be cool if we both ended up at USC?! :-)

I would honestly die of excitement. I'm trying not to get TOO excited over USC... yet  :P . It's so hard, especially since I fell in love when I visited this summer.

Tee hee, totally true about updating the course listing. I suspect you're right.

jmarti, kcald, and other S. Carolina hopefuls, I am so excited for you guys because that's where I did my undergrad (in anthropology). I am secretly hoping to do a PhD there eventually. Have you guys seen this TEDx talk by Dr. Fridriksson? He's on my POI list. (And yes, I'm already ruminating about that even though I haven't found out where I've been accepted for the Master's. Honk if you're anal!)

Did you love it there??? Tell me everything!

Unfortunately I don't know anything about the COMD program, beyond that the Arnold School got a shiny new building not too long ago. I remember that the old one was imploded in 2005-ish - they did it in the wee hours of the morning, and my bf at the time and I rode our bikes there to watch it, haha.

Columbia has a lot of good things going for it, in my opinion. I enjoyed living there and still come by a couple of times a year to visit friends, which is easy to do because my parents live in Rock Hill. S. Carolina has a beautiful campus.

I am finishing up pre-reqs also. I need statistics and a bio class A professor told me that for the asha requirements you can Take the CLEP, so I am going to look into that for bio -hopefully wherever I go will also accept that. Thanks for the info on Utah state! That is a great price.

I fell in love with Columbia, too.  I loved the campus -- it reminded me a lot of UNC Chapel Hill, just a bit smaller.  My husband's family lives in Clemson SC (only about 2-3 hours away) so making the move to Columbia now would be just perfect.  We've been talking about this ever since I stumbled into this new SLP dream.  We are avid sports fans, active on the music scene (both performing and attending), and want to be a lot closer to his family than we are now (over 6 hr drive now).  If it doesn't work out for the master's program to go to USC, I definitely am pursuing the PhD option there when the time is right.  We only wished that Clemson University had an SLP program, only because I could actually live at his aunt's house until he finds a job down there.  His job, and moving wherever school is, it will all work out in God's timing... just have to get wherever we are supposed to go!!

If you have a community college system in your state, check to see if they offer the "transferring credit" version of biology - this is the class that most undergrad institutions call biology. I took that class (4 hr credit) for only $290. You should be able to do the same thing for statistics. My bio class was entirely online, although there was a local option of 1 night a week bio, too. If I get admitted, and they tell me I have to re-take statistics (I have AP credit for it), I am looking into the 1-night a week course to take over the summer. MUCH cheaper than even USU online. USU does offer Statistics according to the website, although I have not checked to see if it is offered online or during the summer. Might be worth checking into!!

What is CLEP? (sorry, I'm ignorant and jumping in!)

This link lists the courses they offer for the non-degree seeking at USU:

http://comd.usu.edu/htm/distance-education/online-post-bachelors-degree/online-post-bach-courses

Also, yes tuckerma- applying there is super easy - it's just basically "you are in!" haha.  But I guess that's because it's non-degree seeking.  So far I have taken Language Development, A&P of the Speech Mechanism there, and I am taking Speech Science this semester.  They do offer Aural Rehab (not just pediatric unless something has changed) and I was told by a couple schools that they had students who had taken it there and it counted.  You may want to check with your programs to be sure, but their classes are pretty legit!  They are pretty thorough and some are harder than others, but I feel like they are preparing me well for graduate school.  They definitely helped me knock out a few courses that weren't offered locally where I'm living now!

Good luck and if anyone has any specific questions about the USU stuff, feel free to ask me!

Hope we all get good news next week!!!

it's interesting that you all bring up Utah State's online courses, because my BU interviewers actually suggested that I look into that, haha! (i'm out of field). seems like a good option!

I was under the impression that you had to pick which campus you wanted to apply to, but I could be wrong lol. It's funny that you mention Brooklyn College- that is where I am currently enrolled for the Grad Cert. in ASD! I love it and the professors are awesome, they really know there stuff! I would definitely go for it if ASD is something you are interested in! I also received my B.A. from Brooklyn College as well. If you have more questions about the program feel free to PM me!

Thanks so much! I know I have many more schools to hear from, but it still stings! I just need 1 acceptance....that's all I keep telling myself

I kind of wish I applied to more schools now! All I want is that one acceptance as well!!! I hate living on pins and needles waiting...ahh!!  <_<

I know!! I went back to look at emails from schools I applied to seeing if they gave an estimated decision date and only three out of the seventeen I applied to did (that's even if they stick to those dates).

I have that same kind of optimistic, positive feeling ... this week and next week we are really going to start seeing some results come down on this page and on the results search.  I just hope that somehow I have at least one school give me a result during that time, too. :-)

By the way, if you haven't tried results searching beyond individual institutions (which takes forever), try using:

(speech|comm*)

in the search box.  It pulls up communications sciences/disorders as well as speech, since universities differ on the title of the program/degree.

I feel like the decisions are going to start coming! March starts this week, so I'm getting a positive vibe.

I was literally just saying that to myself haha. The results board became pretty busy the end of last week, so if anything this week should be busier! Lets hope....

I feel that we will all be getting at least one bit of news this week, or at least the week after. When I looked at the results search, the only school I applied to who is notifying later than the 1st full week of March is USC (which I knew already, per the e-mail they sent out).

I tried checking all over in the Checkmarq site, and I can't find anywhere where it lists an application status, nowhere does it say submitted, pending, etc. there is also no spot for it to say so, so I guess that's normal?

Now just hoping they send out emails from Marquette tomorrow, and that funding is there!

Making us wait through the weekend is just cruel, but if there's an acceptance with my name on it I'll get over it :)

I wonder whether I'd be more or less of a nervous wreck if I hadn't discovered this site and gone through last year's results to see when my programs notified and through what medium.  So far for me, we've already passed the date for one of them with no word and are coming up quickly on several others.

I feel like I'm actively developing ulcers.

Ooops, I meant to say thanks to SLPtoBEweee! Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. Saturday brain.

Sorry that this post is going to look really obnoxious. SLPtoBEweee (and any others with knowledge of USU's online program), this is the list of what's being offered online this summer from USU's Course Finder thing. It looks like COMD 5330 is just called "Aural Rehab" on the link you provided, but here they list it as "Pediatric Aural Rehab." I imagine it satisfies the aural rehab-related KASAs, but I'll ask my prospective schools.

Course Start Date Instructor Type Days/Times CRN

Yes - this looks like the right list.  I don't know why their list would be different online on the search than in the list - maybe they haven't updated the list recently?  I didn't take Aural Rehab at USU so I'm not sure.  I took that one in person locally.  I think I am going to take Artic & Phono disorders this summer... And maybe a couple others (ALL depending on where I go to school of course..... The only school I've been accepted to so far requires 35 hours of pre-reqs, so I have been squeezing those in all year!  Then one of my other schools only requires like 18 hours.  Drives me crazy!!!)

Good luck everyone - I am hoping for good news tomorrow for all of us!!!

I've already chipped a tooth by grinding my teeth in my sleep. It's gonna be a bumpy few weeks.

If you're feeling stressed, just look back on the more stressful parts of this process.  Remember the many months you spent studying for (and eventually taking) the GRE?  Or what about the infinitesimal drafts of your personal statement that you wrote and edited before settling on your final versions?  By comparison, the waiting game is the easiest thing we'll do.

Or, if it's more helpful, think of how stressful it will be to decide which program to attend after your bounty of acceptances!

Hi everyone, I am a new member that just found this site last week and have been reading the results forum obsessively throughout the week. I thought I may as well crash the party and share my anxiety too.

I am an out of field candidate that will graduate with a degree in Psychology this May. I had a hard time figuring out which career to pursue, but finally this summer I decided to take the plunge and go with my gut instinct of speech language pathology, even though it is a challenging enough program for somebody in field to get into, let alone somebody out of field like me. I was advised that since I already took a few CDS courses and got A's in them, and that my GPA was higher than 3.8 that I could try and get accepted into a program that allowed out of field candidates admission. I was hopeful last semester, but now the anxiety is kicking in big time. I got wait listed this Monday at NE-Omaha, and considering a made a mistake in their application, I took this as good news since I was for sure they would see my error and just throw my application away. But I am definitely having second thoughts about my decision to go ahead and apply without all my pre-reqs complete. My back up plan is to go to SIU- Edwardsville and get a second degree in CDS and start the whole application process again, and I REALLY don't want to have to go through all this again. But seeing other out of field candidates on here gives me hope that I am not the only out of field applicant out there like a feared I was :)

I will not hear from my other schools until March, it's only a few weeks away but it seems like an eternity, which I am sure all of you already know. Good luck to everyone, you all seem like such great people and I am sure we will all be successful!

Yay for Western and Appalachian State, Tay1991!  These next couple of weeks are going to be tough but we can do it!! :-)  I'm hoping all of us have multiple acceptances!

Posted

Tay, if any of the programs you applied to have a leveling year, I don't see why it would matter whether you had taken any of the prereqs.  Of course, taking these prereqs and doing well can suggest that you would also do well in their program, it seems that with your GPA you have demonstrated your ability to perform in an academic setting.

I understand you're worried, but you should relax and enjoy your last year of undergrad!

I have this gut feeling we'll be hearing acceptances from Marquette tomorrow and Emerson by the end of the week.  I'm getting extremely anxious...
