xGeek Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Their webpages (e.g. http://cs.stanford.edu/content/phd-and-ms-programs) now say that the decisions will be sent by end of March, instead of 16th March as it was until recently. I was hoping to know the decision by the end of this week Does anybody know what they're planning to do? snit 1
ssk2 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Yeah - you're right. Historically they've given out decisions in mid March and reflected as much on their FAQ page (http://cs.stanford.edu/content/faqs#b12) - so I would assume that they've changed the date and we should take the new date as accurate. Argh. More waiting.
DFitz Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 This is Karmic Punishment for me checking the results page too often on this site ... sorry fellas ...
ssk2 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Haha, you're not the only one! I think we'll need some sort of therapy after this whole process is all done and dusted.
pogopuschel Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I guess all we can do is wait and hope that they come this week. The FAQ site has been saying "end of March" for several weeks already, I never saw anything else there. I thought the March 16 date was based on the previous year results, not on what they said on their website.
justsayani Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 yes i agree. It was always "end of March", right! And every year they release the decisions by mid March, at least, that's what everyone says.
ssk2 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Incidentally, if any of you are bored, this is an interesting insight into the Stanford admissions process: http://jackman.stanford.edu/papers/pa04.pdf I don't know how similar to the CS process it is. This email from the year 2000 is also interesting - http://lindholm.jp/src/chinf_adm.html - suggesting that applicants with NDO courses under their belt have to meet a lower threshold. (No idea if that's still true.)
ssk2 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 My money's on either tonight or two weeks time (say the 29th). I think there's a slightly higher probability of it being the former - i.e. tonight.
xGeek Posted March 16, 2013 Author Posted March 16, 2013 I really wish it's tonight but I am not at all confident, if I have to take a bet I'd say next week at the earliest. Hopefully I'm wrong
ssk2 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I think it won't be today. Last year they sent their emails out at (approximately) midnight GMT - it's well past that now and nothing. They may have changed their servers to run on Pacific time but that's unlikely! Another couple of weeks to wait I think :-) josefchung 1
justsayani Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I think it won't be today. Last year they sent their emails out at (approximately) midnight GMT - it's well past that now and nothing. They are making decisions this week and will release the decisions by the end of this week (i guess, Friday)! DFitz 1
ssk2 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) Aw man, terrifying. But yeah, thanks for the information :-) Edited March 18, 2013 by ssk2
justsayani Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 @ssk2 .... you mentioned that you re-applied this Fall, so did you have to re-send your official transcripts? because the website says, if re-applying, we really don't have to unless they notify us asking for them! just wanted to make sure, if I don't make it this year
ssk2 Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Haha, well, I did - although probably didn't need to, figured the £10 + postage was worth the additional peace of mind...if I get in, I'll ask for the spare ones back :-D
pogopuschel Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Thanks for asking justsayani. This is exciting, I hope I never have to do this again
xGeek Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 Thanks justsayani! Wow, that's more nerve wrecking than I thought.
rustledjimmies Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 oh gosh... now there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Here's to hoping that the end of the tunnel isn't a cliffside opening dropping me to my doom.
ab2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) OK. Don't be dramatic now. It's only grad admissions. If it doesn't work out, there's always McDonald's. Edited March 19, 2013 by ab2013 ssk2 and stackoverflow 2
xGeek Posted March 22, 2013 Author Posted March 22, 2013 Does anybody happen to know if they're still going to be on time? Panicing!
