Lazcano
Not sure if there is already a topic on this, but has anyone accepted an offer and now second guessing it? I accepted an offer last week, however I can't seem to get one of the schools I rejected (it was my first choice when I began applications) out of my mind. You'd think by now I'd be over it, but I can't seem to rid myself of this sinking feeling that maybe I did not make the best choice. I not even excited about starting my program in September. Anyone else in a similar boat or am I just going crazy? :?:
socialpsych
I wouldn't say I'm second-guessing, but it was certainly a bit of an anticlimax to turn down the other schools and accept the offer. And I know I made the right choice. There was another program I was excited about but it wasn't even really close for me in the end. So I'm sure it would be much worse if I didn't feel quite so confident. I think what you're feeling is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. Of course you will feel a sense of loss regarding the other programs you turned down. But you will be happy at the program you chose and a few years down the road you won't be able to imagine things going any differently.

But you will be happy at the program you chose and a few years down the road you won't be able to imagine things going any differently. I felt almost exactly the same way, socialpsych. In the end making the final decision was almost a bit of an anticlimax - nothing at all like what I had envisioned at the beginning of the application process. But like you, I know I made the right choice. I do feel a sense of loss regarding the other great programs that I won't be attending, but in the end I can only attend one program and I'm confident I made the right choice. So yeah, having such feelings is normal and probably inevitable. But I would encourage the OP to stop second-guessing too much and try to get excited about starting grad school in the fall. a cup of coffee
Maybe try writing out the reasons you chose, like a pro-con chart, if you haven't already ... that way you can have something to refer to if you're plagued by doubt.

sfbbgurl
I am currently reading a book called "The Paradox of Choice". Check it out. Its all about how having too many choices "robs us of satisfaction." Its interesting. I started the book not even realizing how relevant it was to grad school. I guess I am lucky I only have one acceptance so far. haha. Just remember, the experience you have is what you make of it. So don't worry too much about it. socialpsych
WARNING: I did this last year and it confirmed all of my second guessing. Really? Then maybe instead of a pro-con chart you should just write out the reasons that favored the school you chose. There must be SOME reason you chose that school, even if it was just "my gut said it would be a better place"!
misterpat
I see it all perfectly; there are two possible situations
miratrix
It is anticlimactic to make a decision, after months of applying and requesting advice and recommendations and waiting and narrowing it down all of a sudden...you just send a piece of paper and that's it, go back to your life for another six months! Seriously, why is nobody else as excited about this news as I am?! It makes sense that there's a psychological come-down.... As for second-guessing, the way I look at it is that there is not a right choice and several wrong choices. There are just different paths you can take, and you can make whichever one you choose work out right. Try to focus on the path you're on now.
