honeychurch Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Is anyone getting into Rhet/Comp positions anywhere this year? The grad cafe results page seems BLEAK.
Graditude Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Is anyone getting into Rhet/Comp positions anywhere this year? The grad cafe results page seems BLEAK. As soon as I hear back from Arizona State, I'll let you know... Where have you applied?
Tweedledumb Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I got into Southern Illinois but that's an English degree with a concentration in rhet/comp. My friend has got into four rhet/comp programs though: Louisville, Nebraska, Southern Illinois, and Miami of Ohio.
honeychurch Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) Only applied to one PhD program in Rhetoric--Virginia Tech, Waitlisted. (Also applied for Creative Writing MFAs) (Edited to Add: I have an M.A. in English) Edited February 26, 2014 by honeychurch

bhr Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Applied to MAs not PhD soooo still waiting. You and me BowTie... I just bounced off the wall during a revision conference with my capstone teacher to the point where she ordered me to go take a nap. I don't think I've slept well since January 15th, and until I have a fully funded offer in hand I don't see that changing. FSM, please help me now!

But what netflix should I start watching? I'm a doctor who, Sherlock, fawlty towers, boondocks, kitchen nightmares aficionado. I've caught a few episodes of supernatural when my Ex was watching it... It was interesting. I haven't touched Buffy, firefly, house of cards, or breaking bad. So whatdoIdo?
driftlake Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I can't recommend Firefly or (particularly) Breaking Bad enough, but I haven't seen Buffy or House of Cards. It seems like a long silence from programs at the moment. Guess I should start watching Netflix again, too...
Tweedledumb Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Breaking Bad is good, and Buffy is amazing if you enjoy witty banter and kitsch. I haven't seen House of Cards either, but it comes highly recommended by a lot of people. You should also give Supernatural another shot -- it's not mind blowing but it's a helluva lot of fun (however, since I'm a straight female, the main characters might have something to do with my level of enjoyment...)

I enjoyed supernatural - I dig the bromance and yeah those dudes are cute. (From my straight male perspective)
dmariebelle Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 So, rejected from Miami this eve via email. I noticed that the email came from the international graduate admission coordinator, and was CCd to the domestic grad. ad. co., the admin. assistant of the English Dept., and the DGS. Anyone have any idea why the rejection would be CCd to others? Also, if you applied to Miami, don't be psyched if you see this in the email body: Attached you will find an official letter from Miami University Graduate School. This is the only one you will receive. Please be advised: within seven business days, you should receive another email containing a link to a webform from which you can confirm or decline your offer of admission. Because, I didn't have an offer of admission. I had a rejection. :/

Graditude Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Is anyone willing to claim the 27 Feb rejection from ASU Rhetoric and to share details? Still waiting...
iExcelAtMicrosoftPuns Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Thank y'all for the wonderful Netflix suggestions. So, rejected from Miami this eve via email. I wish I could offer you some sort of explanation - probably just making sure everyone is on the same page and making sure you don't get multiple rejections from the same program.
iExcelAtMicrosoftPuns Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) Another day with no news! I am sad. ETA: I removed my name. Oops Edited February 28, 2014 by BowTiesAreCool
Tweedledumb Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 ETA: I removed my name. Oops ...I don't understand (but there's by been a lot of rum tonight)
iExcelAtMicrosoftPuns Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) ...I don't understand (but there's by been a lot of rum tonight) I occasionally speak about myself in third person. So instead of "I am sad" I said, "XXXXX is sad" My name is XXXXX. Now you know. Secret is out. Edited February 28, 2014 by BowTiesAreCool
iExcelAtMicrosoftPuns Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Your clarification is appreciated Salutations. Jolly good. Pleased to meet you.

Graditude Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 ASU began looking at this year's applications 44 days ago. Some people have already posted rejections. It is -- let's see -- 11:00 am in Phoenix... So what are they doing right now? Taking a bite of a sandwich, then wiping their fingers on one of the applications strewn across their desks? Vamos, Phoenix. Tampoco es tan difícil.
iExcelAtMicrosoftPuns Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 MAN! It's so slow. Could it be that all the folks getting in just aren't sharing it on G.C?
