phatlilpanda Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I've heard back from the University of New Haven for an I/O masters. It's my backup so at least I got accepted there! So far, I'm still waiting to hear from everywhere else: Wayne State DePaul University of Minnesota University of Oklahoma University of Nebraska Bowling Green University of Akron Florida International University Portland State University University of South Florida If you don't mind me asking, which school is your top pick?
Arseni Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I would say my top choice is Akron and then DePaul.

At least it ll give me an idea about the scores required in GRE to secure admission. I appreciate your effort in advance. Regards
BeingThere Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) Looks like Michigan State sent out offers. And so begins the I/O season! Best of luck to everyone! BTW, I was wait listed. I remain hopeful! Edited January 14, 2014 by Bren2014 Munashi 1
phatlilpanda Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Finally submitted the last of my applications, now it's time to play the helpless waiting game and freak out when results are posted hahaha.
phatlilpanda Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Good luck Phat! Thanks! and good luck to you as well!
BeingThere Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Looks like Penn State is calling invitees to their visiting weekend. Just got off the phone with my POI. Very excited to go out there and check out the program! They are inviting 11 applicants. I thought it was going to be a phone interview so I prepped for that. I was a little caught off guard that it wasn't one. Hope I didn't sound too awkward on the phone! Edited January 17, 2014 by Bren2014

Maybe I was completely wrong about that, but I somehow got that impression...
BeingThere Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Wow, Congrats! I'm surprised though - I thought IO Psychology generally doesn't interview? Maybe I was completely wrong about that, but I somehow got that impression... Thanks Roebuck and Maziana! Maziana, You are correct; most I/O programs don't interview. Penn State is one exception. I think there may be a couple of others that invite a few applicants out.
Maziana Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Thanks Roebuck and Maziana! Maziana, You are correct; most I/O programs don't interview. Penn State is one exception. I think there may be a couple of others that invite a few applicants out. Ahh, ok! That makes sense! Also, since I appreciate updates so much, I will give one to Minnesota applicants! We should hear back from UMinn in 12-14 days!! My POI called me! I'm so excited/hopeful!

paiged2 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Oh, I should probably note that some faculty are faster than others for PSU for making calls. I think last year they did it over like the course of a week, and that had nothing to do with applicant rankings or ability or whatever. So just because you haven't received a phone call doesn't mean you're not necessarily going to. Things are just a bit chaotic right now with classes starting, proposals, and travel. I know this can be a stressful time for people. Try to take some time to relax and have fun.
BeingThere Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Ahh, ok! That makes sense! Also, since I appreciate updates so much, I will give one to Minnesota applicants! We should hear back from UMinn in 12-14 days!! My POI called me! I'm so excited/hopeful! That's awesome, Maziana! I heard from mine from there today as well. I hope we both have good news to share in a couple of weeks!
BeingThere Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Looking forward to meeting you in a few weeks! If you have any questions let me know. Thanks, Paige! Looking forward to meeting you as well! I'm really excited to talk with the faculty and students and check out the program!
iopsychohmygerd Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 An update for anyone applying to Georgia Tech: I received an email from my POI a couple of weeks ago saying they'd be finishing up the selection process within a week or two. Since the two week mark has passed, I'm guessing we could hear back any day now! Congratulations to everyone who's started hearing back already! We're in the home stretch. It's so exciting!
TheCheat_IsMyHero Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Hi guys! First time poster here. Applied to 8 PhD programs: Colorado State George Mason University Portland State University USF-Tampa St. Louis University University of Akron North Illinois University Rice Just curious about everyone's research interests! I'm really interested in older adults in the workplace and issues related to older workers. Anybody else have an idea of what they want to research?
BeingThere Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Hi guys! First time poster here. I'm really interested in older adults in the workplace and issues related to older workers. Anybody else have an idea of what they want to research? Welcome, TCMH (hope you don't mind; your user name is long )! I'm applying to a couple of the same programs as you, but my research interests are different. (Stated in general terms, I'm more into individual differences (personality, motivation) and their relationships with such things as leadership, CWBs.) Good luck with your applications and please keep us posted as you hear back from places!
roebuck1 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Hi all, A little birdie has told me that MSU has extended offers to 7! people! Fingers crossed for you all.
iopsychgirl123 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I'm new to the thread as I just found out about this AWESOME website. Pretty glad I wasn't on here while applying though, or my confidence definitely would have dropped. Many of you seem like you have EVERYTHING going for you, there's definitely some tough competition this year. I applied to 6 programs (5 PhD and 1 masters) and I think I'm going crazy waiting to hear back. Munashi (thanks for starting this thread by the way), I see you have 3 interviews so far, mind telling us where? I'm dying to find out if any of my programs have started making calls yet!
iopsychohmygerd Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Updated list of programs I've applied to: I/O psychology Ph.D. programs: UGA Georgia Tech (discussing status with POI) UCF FIT UMSL SLU Auburn Clemson Penn State (assuming rejected) Human factors psychology programs: Old Dominion (interview + visit) UCF Clemson So far, I've interviewed with Old Dominion, and will be visiting the school in February. I also received notice from my POI at Tech that he just found out he cannot fund a student this year, but indicated that he had been strongly considering me. He mentioned that two of my other POI's at Tech were still taking students, and he'd personally advocate for me to be selected, but that there were a few other strong candidates in consideration as well. It's really exciting, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I honestly thought I had no chance of getting into Tech, so it just goes to show that it's worth it to apply to your dream school even if it seems like a long shot! I'm thrilled just to find out I was good enough, even if I don't get in for funding reasons. I didn't get a call from Penn State, but I'm not really disappointed, since it's pretty far from where I live now. I'm glad several others have heard back though! Good luck everyone. Also, welcome to all the new people joining the forum!
roebuck1 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 University of Illinois Urbana and Maryland are finally looking at their applications for I/O! I'm assuming we're gonna hear back by next week! Who were your POIs for Maryland, Qwerty?
Maziana Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 UIUC emailed today asking me to send my official transcript, so I guess that makes sense.
