It's ok... I totally feel the same. This is one nerve-wrecking process :(

I can't but wonder about people who apply again a year later and enter this process again...

I'm one of those second rounders.. I attended a PhD program for a semester, financial issues abound, then am reapplying for other programs that are more stable. I can tell you. The second round is MUCH worse.

This is my first PhD round, but if I have to apply next year, it will be my 4th round (MFA, MA, PHD, PHD2) and I can only imagine how much it will ruin my life.  I'm ready to just apply for jobs in admissions.  MY, HOW THE TABLES HAVE TURNED.

I'm sorry you're going through it again. I hope things go well this time for you and that you hear good news soon, so you won't have to worry much longer!

As someone who has, I can promise it never gets any easier. I felt better about the process of applying, especially after really doing more research and firming up this project, but the waiting... the... waiting. It also feels like there's way more on the line this time, because I have to graduate and figure out a Plan B (C, D, E...) if I don't get in.

I'm genuinely curious: does anyone without significant research experience actually have a chance of getting into a PhD program? All I have as far as research is a literature review that I'm working on (I also have done field schools and have lab experience and an internship under my belt), but from looking at results it doesn't seem like anyone else has a little experience as I do.

it is not impossible. and dont sell yourself short, it seems like you have some good experience, and that never hurts. Obviously, publications look awesome on a CV, but those can be hard to come by as an undergraduate. I'd say if you have decent letters you have as good a shot as anybody else.

Ahhh so I just had my interview with Chicago, which I think went well over all. But I always end up saying something so stupidly awkwaarrrrrrd. Ugh....

That's awesome. I'm in biological anthropology. I just wondered because my POI at UCSD told me that funding is very sparse for bio anth and each prof can offer it on a rotating basis. Apparently this isn't her year. Anyway I hope the funding is better for archaeology. Good luck to you!

Thanks! I am a bit disappointed to hear that about the funding. It seems like that will make my chances even worse. I'm still holding out hope for Pitt, although they apparently still have not received my GRE scores. I've called ETS about it and they said they would re-send them. Hopefully they get there before the admissions committee makes any decisions.

I bet you did great Daykid! do you mind me asking where your first choice is? I understand if you don't want to post. I'd love to hear your stats and research areas if you happen to have the time and care to pm.  No worries though, and congrats again, your year is going splendidly!

Hi everyone -  I need some feedback on an interview! It was via Skype and while some of the questions were challenging, I think it went OK. Towards the end, they asked if invited to perspective student weekend if I would attend. From what I've gathered from this forum, in years past, students have been invited to this weekend when they are accepted. Is this a good sign? Is this a way of gauging my interest without asking directly? Should I just not read so much into it? I would like to be cautiously optimistic - but considering how much I would LOVE to go there, I maybe it would be wise to wait to get my hopes up...

And here's sending good thoughts out to everyone's whose schools notify soon!

It's definitely a good sign!  Might I ask what school?  Feel free to PM me the answer if you want to keep it on the DL...

Anyone else hold out hope at the end of each day because your schools are in different time zones? Haha.

Thank you for the feedback.  I hope you're right, I definitely have good letters from pretty well known anthropologists - so here's hoping.

I applied to CUNY, Duke, UPENN, U of Michigan, Northwestern, Brown, Boston Uni, Rutgers, and Harvard all anthro, and Northeastern Sociology PhD programs. Haven't heard from anything except a rejection from Duke except an email from my POI in UPenn. I'm so nervous and kinda losing hope about them. Should I stay positive folks?

Although I have my bouts of severe agony worrying about this, I still believe that we should all remain positive regardless of the final outcome. If you don't make it, hit the drawing board and retry next year.  But don't give up hope yet!
