historynerd Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Give those of us on waitlists hope. If you have accepted another offer, what schools are you turning down? And what's your area?
petpolitics Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 :? unfortunately, it looks like i might turn down all 4 of my accepted schools (and one MA...) ...they're all in the 25-40 ranked range. i'm scared that they're not the best fit for me. i don't want to be there for 5-6-7 years and not have a job when i leave. i feel a bit crazy about this since the application process was so rigorous. anyone else doing this?

historynerd Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 I see several new people have posted to the "I am Attending X" thread - want to post who you're turning down? Please post schools you were waitlisted at as well as schools where you got acceptances. Thanks!
Dirt Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I've asked to be removed from the waitlist at Indiana. I applied to the British field.
sra08 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I turned down an M.A. offer at GWU. I have an offer for the University of Maryland's PhD program which I'm almost certainly not going to accept, but I haven't notified them yet. I'm not sure UMD even has a waitlist, as I was told that admitted students have literally until right before the start of fall semester classes to accept the offer of admissions. If anyone here is waitlisted there or knows of someone who is I'll let them know right away, but otherwise I might wait a week or so.
IronDuke Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I turned down Cornell and felt fucking miserable about it. Hopefully I will make someone on the waitlist happy.
rwcole39 Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Northwestern PhD. That was a tough decision. Turning down MAs at Columbia and Chicago, not so difficult.
misterpat Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Temple. They told me tonight they cannot fund me. The no-funding aspect might go against the purpose of this thread, but it makes me feel good to participate. Hopefully some folks are turning down Mizzou, and that I'm near the top of the alternate-list.
sojourner Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Field: Public History. School turned down: ASU (no funding offer). :x
Sonic Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I turned down a PhD offer from the University of Maryland, and vacated a waitlist spot a week ago at Washington University in St. Louis. Field is early America/Atlantic World.
limeinthecoconut Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I just said bye bye to a non-funded spot at UW. Hopefully it'll make someone happy? (maybe not)
