Heimat Historian Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 (edited) I'd like to hear from Indiana I think. Or you know, anywhere I applied to. Edited February 6, 2015 by Heimat Historian
ashiepoo72 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Those infernal upvotes! I love that we are so positive that we run out so frequently (Fyi I'm out too!) I also work in an office, and when I'm not working I'm on the computer doing coursework or research so it's quite easy to click on my saved gradcafe/results board tab... I would like to hear from Madison and Indiana soon, but only because I've been told those will report soon! It's almost better if I don't know the schedule of notifications. What about you, Chiqui? kblooms 1
Kallikratidas Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I decided to make an account to let you know that Columbia's committee is meeting today. Whether or not they will notify us today remains to be seen. Magellan1521 1
Chiqui74 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I refuse to put my work email on my phone. Nope. As for which school I want to hear from next, that'd be Harvard. It was my SUPER reach, I think, and I want to KNOW one way or the other.
KBHistorian Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I would love to hear from South Carolina University or George Washington University! They're in my top three.
JTE Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I would like to hear from Duke or Virginia. SunshineLolipops 1
Gambaosaka1 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 What program did you get into for the UCLA MA? The East Asian Studies MA
Gambaosaka1 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Is the UCLA MA actually a funded program? I've been accepted, but I'm completely unaware of the chances for receiving funding there. Also accepted at Berkeley, but having received no news on funding there either, I'm worried there won't be any. Does anybody know if Berkeley typically funds all admits? They have some departmental funding available...the Terasaki Center has money for some MA students. Want to make it clear I have 0 idea if I got that! But I changed my application from a PhD to an MA on the basis that I would be "in line for recruitment funding" which of course does not mean I will definitely get it. What are you thinking re UCLA?
Heimat Historian Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 JTE, you fished your wish. Looks like Duke is sending out some stuff today.
SunshineLolipops Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 The only place I've applied to that I think might have a chance of notifying this afternoon would be Virginia. I think the rest won't post anything until the week after next, but I would be very happy to be completely wrong about that. Either way, it's beer:30 in Scotland. Cheers!
Chiqui74 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I think at this point it's safe to say I did not get into William and Mary. It's a shame too, it was high on my list.
JTE Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Unfortunately, that Duke submission wasn't me. Hopefully I'll hear something.
ashiepoo72 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Good luck JTE! I hope you get some positive news!
nom Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Has anyone gotten an acceptance from a school he or she did not receive an interview?
JTE Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Thanks Ashiepoo, me too, for research purposes the Triangle area is ideal for me.
Chiqui74 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I had no contact with NYU prior to the acceptance. Even my POI never replied prior to the application.
greengoose Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Has anyone gotten an acceptance from a school he or she did not receive an interview? Yep, no interviews with the Chicago CHSS program or U of Washington before acceptance. I also didn't email any professors at any of the schools I applied to, so no previous contact at all.
ashiepoo72 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Most programs don't interview. I didn't interview at any of the schools I applied, but I did speak to at least 2 POIs at each. I will say that for each of the programs that accepted me, I had really positive conversations with the scholars who agreed to be my advisers before I applied. I don't necessarily think this made my application, but it helped me pick the right programs for my research and career goals.

Magellan1521 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Has anyone gotten an acceptance from a school he or she did not receive an interview? Yes, got into Johns Hopkins without an interview.
Magellan1521 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 If I could just say -- Even though I did not get into Northwestern, I applaud its admissions process. It doesn't leave people hanging. The committee informs people right away whether they're accepted or not. greengoose 1
ashiepoo72 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I totally agree, Magellan. I get that certain programs need to notify in waves because of funding, but that doesn't help anxiety levels of waiting applicants!

Has anyone gotten an acceptance from a school he or she did not receive an interview? I got into Ohio State and Washington, no interview at all. I didn't email anyone at OSU. I had briefly emailed my POI at Washington several months before applying, but I was emailing her about her book + my research, not about graduate school, so I don't know how much that counts.
