Hahah thanks! Why don't we find marburg in America and just do a program there? There must be a city called that

yeah I emailed her back asking "didn't you just say..." To which she responded that the results came in right after our call. Maybe they're sending out the rejections first? A nice start to the weekend!

Re: Sep/Oct grants... Just speaking from my own experience but the graduate study grant application was an entirely different beast. The forms were much longer and I submittled about 4x the amount of materials as I did for the language intensive. They were also due about 5-6 weeks (depending on the field of study) earlier than the language grant app. I received notice for that one after about 4.5 months after submitting, so we're approaching a similar time frame here.

That makes a lot of sense. I didn't really think about it like that!

Still nothing. Now they are technically closed. Horb, hopefully she is working late. Otherwise we will be left hanging for the weekend.

4.44pm. I got an email from Uta. I imagine they either stopped for the day or still have more to hand out. I really hope you get it! It was such a slaughter today it makes me wonder if they even had grants to give out!

Does anyone here know how feasible it is to attend a Masters in Germany and finance it with any sort of part time student job. Is it doable to find a job quickly enough once I arrive there to pay for living expenses while I study? Maybe somebody in this forum has done the same thing?

Thanks in advance for any feedback

Hey brokecollegegrad, I'm in a similar situation, considering self-funding (somehow) to get my Master's if I'm accepted to LMU-Munich since I don't have certainty that I will have any sort of funding for it. Unfortunately though, I found out that students are only permitted to work 180 days each year, so it may not be very feasible to go without having a considerable amount of money saved up first--Germany requires that international students can show proof of having at least $8000 for the academic year. :/

I've been frantically searching for some other last-minute scholarship/fellowship programs, but all of the ones that I've found have already completed their application seasons. If I find anything, I will definitely let you know! Please let me know if you figure out something as well! I am seriously desperate to go to LMU-Munich if I get in; funding or not, I want to make it happen!

Viel Glück!

You don't need $8000 on a bank account if you have a letter from someone -- parents? -- who agrees to take financial responsibility for you. Or, if your parents are nice enough, they can transfer money onto an account with your name on it, you print out the account balance, and then wire the money back.

As for working while you're there, it's been my experience that the work allowance is plenty to pay for your cost of living, especially if you can land a spot in a student dorm. It's not the most glorious lifestyle, but hey, you're still in Germany (!!) getting a Masters (!!) for cheap!

I dont mind living cheap. My only worry is whether I'll be able to find a job at all since my German knowledge is limited to what I have been able to teach myself with Rosetta Stone for the past 6 months.

Hey Beauvoir. Do you know if all acceptances have gone out? Or if maybe they are being sent alphabetically? I still haven't heard anything so wonder if I might be on a waiting list...

Posted

Acceptances were sent out about an hour ago by email.

Did you get one? If so, congratulations!!!!

I received notification about 30 mins. ago that I received a grant to München. It's time to hurry up and make plans now!

Hi,

I also received a grant, but will have to turn it down because the dates no longer work for me. Hopefully they have a list of alternates that will be happy :)

Thank you, I did receive one. What a protracted wait, but I'll be happily living in Berlin for the summer studying at my top choice institution.

The email didn't say one way or another whether all the acceptances notices had been sent out, or whether they were being sent out alphabetically. My last name starts with "M," if that information's helpful to anyone.

I'm curious, did anyone apply for the university summer grant? I'm debating applying for that next year and wondered what the big difference was, considering you essentially can do language grants through it.

Posted

As did my hopes and dreams. Just kidding :)

I'm sure it is just a very busy time of the year for most people.

Are you re-applying? I'm going to apply to the university summer course. I think having had a degree in German was not a good component for the intensive language course, though I am not currently studying German now, which is what the grant required. But, the uni course grant seems a much better fit, so here is to hoping!

Well i applied for the Master's study scholarship as that is the only thing I am really interested in and did not get it. This is only available once a year so I can only apply for one for the fall of 2016 which is depressingly far away.

Yeah, I understand that. I will be applying in September and wouldn't be hearing back until April again for a June/July program. It is a little sooner, but still takes forever!
