PolicyGrad92 Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Hello there! (Long time lurker, first post) Anyone here applying for the Early Notification deadline? It is tomorrow. Even though the Adcom guys have said that there is advantage or disadvantage given to the early applicants except the early decision, is that really true?
andl2ew Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I just submitted my application for Fall 2015 Early Action. Would you mind elaborating on your conversation with the adcom guys on advantages and disadvantages? I didn't even think about asking; I just knew that it was my first choice so I figured, why not save $$$ and time in Jan if the stars align? (crosses fingers )
PolicyGrad92 Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 I just submitted my application for Fall 2015 Early Action. Would you mind elaborating on your conversation with the adcom guys on advantages and disadvantages? I didn't even think about asking; I just knew that it was my first choice so I figured, why not save $$$ and time in Jan if the stars align? (crosses fingers ) I have applied early too. They have mentioned it in their blog posts. But I'm a little unsure. If I look at it logically, many people who have applied early are the ones who have strong applications and have managed to organize everything early. In my head, it sounds more competitive! But since they have been looking at applications for so long, it may not be a relative selection from the smaller pool, but just strong applicants who would have gotten in irrespective of which deadline they applied to. As you can see, my thought process is quite confused. Can anybody give insight to how the early notification works?
Bombaygunner Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Any idea if they give out scholarship money on preference to early action applicants?
Kaneisha Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Hi Patrick, I don't know that they give out scholarship money with preference for early applicants, but I have two thoughts about the situation: 1) Perhaps you'd have a slightly higher chance of receiving fellowship funding as an early applicant because there are more fellowship funds available at the beginning of the cycle or 2) Perhaps you stand less of a chance of receiving fellowship aid applying as an early applicant since the school is in less of a "desperate" state that early in the acceptance process. They know that you are very interested in their school and thus have less motivation to woo you to their program. These are just intuitive (opposing) thoughts but I wanted to share the two lines of thinking to contribute and open up discussion. I hope I didn't increase any anxiety. (Choose to believe in #1!)
Bombaygunner Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Thanks Kaneisha. The only way I can go to SIPA is if they give me a generous scholarship and I get an local scholarship here in India so I'm not holding my breath. From what I've seen trawling these boards, the best most people can expect is $15,000 a year.
PolicyGrad92 Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 Hi I just got my decision after applying early. I got in! Now the scholarship game begins.
meleshz Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Arabiatta, when were all your documents in? I also applied early but still waiting
PolicyGrad92 Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 Arabiatta, when were all your documents in? I also applied early but still waiting All my documents were in on 31 Oct. I applied for MIA, it may be that they are releasing these course wise.
PolicyGrad92 Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 Are there any early admits on this forum? Quick question - do we have any other form/application to fill out for School or Univ funding? I'm a bit unclear.
PolicyGrad92 Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Did anyone attend the webinar today? I missed it, please PM if you did!
outofspace Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who was able to attend. I couldn't attend because of the time difference between here and New York.
CantHardlyWait Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Anyone received news? I've seen an admit on the results page, maybe it wasn't real. Anxiously waiting for decisions to come
Bombaygunner Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 On the admission results section of gradcafe, one SIPA admit said they got "MPA 70k fellowship over two years". Let's hope for more offers like that! http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=SIPA&t=a&o=&pp=25
Gradstudies_IA Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Waiting for the scholarship.. i think the results will come out in March beginning.
Xperto Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) Greetings Everyone! I just received an acceptance for the MPA-DP Program, I have applied by the "standard" deadline. I have not received any funding information in the acceptance letter though. Anyone has any info regarding it? Does the financial aid info usually comes in the acceptance letter or in a different letter? Thanks in advance for your feedback, good luck to everyone else! It seems that the acceptance week has begun!! Cheers! Edit: I correct myself, the excitement of the acceptance made me overlook the following statement on the acceptance letter: "In a few weeks you will receive specific information on the cost of attendance and possible sources of financial aid. " Seems that we have some more time in the waiting game!!!!! Edited March 9, 2015 by Xperto
MsFutureDiplomat Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I'm in to the MIA program!!!!!! Beyond excited!!!!! Anyone hear about financial aid yet?

maplesyrup88 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 In with a $70,000 scholarship over two years! The funding notification came as a second status update. Congrats to all accepted! @Akueldo was this update posted at the same time or did you get a second email about it? Nothing in my letter about it and the accepted student site says under "Resources" that fellowships would be mentioned in the acceptance letter :/
Policykid Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Got in for the MPA-DP.. no word on funding though.. I guess the MPA-DP has a separate aid pool.. could be that im just over optimistic
user727 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) Got in! No info on funding though. Edited: The Resources page for admitted students says that funding info would have been included in the admission letter. So... hmm... Edited March 9, 2015 by user727
