  1. @MJA87 I don't know if it is too late to say this, but last week I have declined my offer (which included a substantial yet not total funding), so if you haven't done so already I would suggest trying to negotiate for more funding (explaining them that they are your first choice, etc). As chocolatecheesecake commented before, I think that Sanford is open for "negotiating" funding fellowships/awards under the right circumstances. I also believe that I am not the first nor the last person that will be declining a funded offer to this school, therefore some other funds may have become available (OMG I sound like a letter that they sent me from Ford when I asked for more funding) @all Good luck with your decisions (if you haven't done so already) The April 15th week is this one! lol Cheers
  2. Greetings! Anyone accepted/ thinking seriously about the MIEF Program? I've been admitted, and its high quant focus + short period + a nice financial offer are attracting me. Would love to discuss about it either here or privately Hit me up if you are in a similar situation Thanks a lot! Good luck in your decisions guys and girls!! Cheers!~
  3. @oscarsson CongratS! I have also been accepted to the MPA-DP, my letter of acceptance states " "In a few weeks you will receive specific information on the cost of attendance and possible sources of financial aid. " Dunno if all are similar, but I guess that we will have to wait some more time to hear about funding Good Luck to everyone else!! Cheers! Edit: there seems to be some people in the results section that have already been notified about financial aid (excellent packages of 50K, 70K...) Hope that SIPA shares more of those Benjamins!!! hahaha
  4. Greetings Everyone! I just received an acceptance for the MPA-DP Program, I have applied by the "standard" deadline. I have not received any funding information in the acceptance letter though. Anyone has any info regarding it? Does the financial aid info usually comes in the acceptance letter or in a different letter? Thanks in advance for your feedback, good luck to everyone else! It seems that the acceptance week has begun!! Cheers! Edit: I correct myself, the excitement of the acceptance made me overlook the following statement on the acceptance letter: "In a few weeks you will receive specific information on the cost of attendance and possible sources of financial aid. " Seems that we have some more time in the waiting game!!!!!
  5. Wow, thanks David for such great and comprehensive response; as a MPA2 candidate I'm grateful for your insight. To the administrators of the forum, if you can make the above post sticky for future applicants, it would be wonderful To everyone else, good luck! The wait is almost over!! Cheers!
  6. Greetings! Adding my 2 cents: If you are not concerned about credit-bearing and your only goal is only "refreshing" or "getting a solid introduction" of the courses, I would suggest any Open Course platforms (MIT, Harvard, Princeton and many others have their own platforms), also Coursera and similar are popular options.
  7. Hello everyone Accepted to the MPP via website with $$ around two hours ago Congrats to all who got in Good luck too everyone else Cheers!
  8. Hello everyone! Over here another Duke hopeful sharing the anxiety for the MPP admissions results. Trying to take away the anxiety I was checking the views for my optional essay video through Youtube Stats, and I got 3 views from NC. I am assuming all of these come from the Ad Comm. I am wondering if this is a good or a bad sign (only people with the link can actually see the video based on the settings that I have imposed, therefore I only have my views and these 3 views from NC) Has anyone else submitted a video or a presentation as an optional essay? Have you had more views than these? Less? Thanks in advance for sharing! Good luck to you all! Cheers!!!
  9. @OneLove21 Indeed one of those acceptance posts is mine. @everyone Just as a sign of encouragement for everyone that has not received anything yet. In the acceptance mail, they attach a youtube "welcome" video only accessible trough a link (as per youtube settings) and until a few minutes ago, said video has only around 40 views. Assuming that some people have seen the video, some others haven't and some others have watched it twice, I would deduce that only a small portion of the acceptances have been sent out and this is only the first batch; therefore expect good news coming to you soon!! Good luck to you all! Cheers!
  10. @kingthearab @OneLove21 I have applied and been accepted to the MA in Global Finance. Trade and Economic Integration. My admittance letter states that I am being offered the Korbel School Merit Scholarship. I submitted my application around Dec 25 Good luck to you all!
  11. Greetings I wanted to comment that I have received an acceptance letter along financial offering from Korbel a couple of hours ago. Therefore keep checking your mail for good news. Good luck to everyone! Cheers
  12. Greetings everyone: Hope that everyone is doing well and enjoying rather than suffering throughout this waiting season! I have received very positive (yet not definitive) news regarding my application to SAIS' MIEF program and I have also applied to Fletcher's MIB As everyone knows, these programs are similar, yet fundamentally different to typical MPA/MPP programs. However besides a couple of posts in this Forum I have not found further opinions and impressions about these programs. I would like to respectfully ask your input regarding them. Definitely, the ultimate answer will rely on someone's interests and terminal objectives. In my case I have a mixed experience in the public/private sector and I am interested on working in Financial Policy in a Multilateral institution or similar; despite that I would kindly ask your perspective in these programs, their potential and if you had any experience with them Thanks in advance for sharing your opinions, good luck to everyone in all your endeavors. Cheers!
  13. Greetings brothers (and sisters) in arms I have received an acceptance notification yesterday for the MPA Program at Maxwell (however they have indicated that financial decision notifications will not come up until March), any other prospective students around? Would love to hear about you and your opinions towards the Program, the School and University in general Good luck everyone in this application season Cheers!
  14. Hello guys! I have applied for the MPP at Peabody at Vandy for fall 2015; I have received a message from the AdComm yesterday telling me that I have been accepted to the Quantitative Methods (M.Ed) instead; they have also stated that I should reply if I indeed want to join the QM MEd until Feb 6th for them to send the official acceptance letter; therefore I think that the official decisions should be released around that time Good luck to you all! I know how the waiting is killing all of us! Cheers!
  15. Chocolatecheesecake thanks for your kind openness Certainly the waiting can be more pleasant with people so kind like you! I will pick up your offering, it would be interesting to learn about the program from an insight perspective: 1.- I understand that during the Spring semester, students can opt for the "Spring Consulting Project", have you had this experience? If so how was it? I have the feeling that this hands on experience is limited to the Durham local area/institutions and therefore less reachable for international students. Am I wrong? Would love to know your insight. 2.- Did you have any experience with inter-institutional registration? As I understand MPP students can register at UNC Chapel Hill, NC State University in Raleigh or NC Central University in Durham. I would be interested in a specific class and Chapel Hill in the Econ dept. but I dunno if inter. inst registering is in fact something that students do in the program. 3.- How about classes at Fuqua and Duke Law School? I have heard that you can register some classes there, but is it common? do you have any experience with it? Can you register in other schools besides the Business School and Law school (i.e. Mathematics Dept. or others?) 4.- I would also like to hear if you have any opinion about waiving required courses. The official process states that the "student should consult with the faculty member who teaches the specific course" but have you had any experience in waiving any requirements? Does this "consultation" include any sufficiency tests or similar? Thanks in advance for your input, it is much appreciated. If it is not too much to ask, I would like to hear about your general profile/experiences before joining Duke, if you could share your GRE scores would be amazing (sorry if it is too much to ask but I am freaking out about my scores) what are your areas of interest? what is your general satisfaction with the program? faculty? peers? Thanks a lot! sorry if the questions are too "out there" or they are too lengthy Cheers!
  16. Hello divertan! Actually I am applying to Sanford's MPP for fall 2015 too. To some extent I also do share the anxiety but I guess this is "normal" if you are really interested in your future career. I have posted my profile on the "am I competitive?" thread (even though I have not stated over there that I was applying to Sanford's MPP too, thought I did), I am also an international applicant so let's see how it goes! Hopefully this can be a self support group hahaha!! Regarding the mail you received after submitting your application (the one that states the early March decisions and the open house invite) I have received it too, but this seems to be an automated message since it comes via the applyyourself system. I think if the AdCom has not contacted you regarding any missing items from your application you should be happy! Good luck in this application season!!! Cheers!
  17. Hello everyone! First of all Happy New Year! Hope all your plans for this 2015 are achieved. I would like to ask for the honest and most sincere opinion regarding my profile. As I Imagine most of people here are in the process of applying for this coming fall or are successful students in some nice schools. Given the fact that I am an international student I am deeply interested in your opinion about my possibilities about getting into a MPP/MPA program. Program and schools applied to:Princeton (WWS) MPA, Harvard (HKS) MPA2, Columbia (SIPA) MPA-DP, Johns Hopkins (SAIS) MIEF Final objective: Work in Multilateral Institution, either as econ analyst or program officer (World Bank type of inst.) GPA: Major Finance: 90/100 (top 20 university in South America, Magna Cum Laude); 4.00 Master in Econ (Asian top 15 University) GRE: 160Q, 160V, 5.5 AWA TOEFL: 117 Work Experience: 3.5 years in developing country in South America in Financial Development ; 2 years in Asia (private consultant on development and finance issues); 3 months paid internship at InterAmerican Development Bank (Washington DC). Language Skills: Spanish (native), Portuguese (high), Chinese (intermediate), Japanese (intermediate), Native language from my country (intermediate) Coursework: Calc I ( B ) Calc II ( B ), Calc III ( A), Intro to Real Analysis (A), Graduate Micro (A), Graduate Macro (A), Graduate Econometrics (A) Overseas experience: I come from a developing country in SA, have been working/studying for the past 5 years in Asia, graduated High school in the US, worked for short period of time in the US, did volunteer work in Germany SoP: Strong, I have a long story to tell, tried to link my previous work experience with development finance with my goals of working in Multilateral. LoRs: All from academic advisers: one from home country (he is also a former Chairman from the National Dev Bank in my country), one from grad school in Asia (dean of school), one from UK professor (I have been his research adviser, he is my mentor) Extracurricular activities: Sports, Boy Scouts Publications: 1 in local Journal, 2 in international Journals (not top ranked though) Academic Awards: Full ride scholarships for undergrad and grad, Magna Cum Laude undergrad degree Concerns: 1. I would have liked to have a better Quant GRE score, 2. took GRE 3 times (do schools care about how many times you have re-taken the standardized test?) 3. Am I aiming to high with the schools and given my fairly low GREs? 4. I already have a Masters in Econ but would like to obtain a MPA/MPP wondering if I am not that "attractive" to schools if I already have grad school experience (did my best to explain that indeed I need/want the degree to achieve my future career goals in my SoP) Thanks in advance for your input, any and all comments / observations are more than welcome! Sorry to bother you in this busy season for applicants and students Cheers!!!
