Put a cat on it Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Oh just saw USC acceptance. Super barf. But congrats to hypervodka!!!! 1Q84 1
inkgraduate Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Congratulations to those who received USC acceptances! On my own behalf I'm feeling sort of miserable, but I'm happy for you guys!
t1racyjacks Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I didn't apply to Emory (or Stanford) so I can't tell you anything on that. However, until you receive an actual rejection from the university, just don't give up hope! if there's one thing I hate, it's uncertainty.... it sounds perverse, but I'd rather just settle on the idea that it's finished than face more uncertainty >_< margeryhemp, 1Q84 and Dr. Old Bill 3
Katla Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Congratulations on your new acceptance hypervodka, really amazing!!! Knocking them all off their socks! if there's one thing I hate, it's uncertainty.... it sounds perverse, but I'd rather just settle on the idea that it's finished than face more uncertainty >_< This is so true.. Pain and rejection may hurt, but I'm not sure it hurts me more than my mind and my vivid imagination inflict on their own And speaking of that.. please bring on the Comp Lit news! Dying here!
quena Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 And speaking of that.. please bring on the Comp Lit news! Dying here! I KNOW!!!!!!! This is killing me!!!!! Why is comp lit so much later than national literature departments?? Or is it just that comp lit applicants are not huge fans of posting their results?
Appppplication Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 The comp lit crew on this site is relatively small, but I genuinely think most places just haven't notified yet. Even to compare to English, many English programs are just now sending out interviews. Also, for most programs there is tremendous variability regarding notification dates from year to year. This week seems to be the opening week for acceptances, and it's only Monday! quena 1

Or is it just that comp lit applicants are not huge fans of posting their results? I applied to one comp lit program (U Penn) and can tell you that when I get some word on that I will be on here reporting it. If I get in, I may be in too much of a state of shock to report it right away though . I'm sure people applying to comp lit will be just as thrilled/devastated/etc. as results come in (and thus will report them!), though it appears that results, so far, are just coming a little later than the earliest English results. Perhaps, too, there are simply more English applicants on this forum, thus more super-early responses. Edited January 26, 2015 by mollifiedmolloy quena 1

scribnera Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 t1racyjacks, I think there were 2 of us that posted Emory interviews - one was under "comparative literature" and one was "comp lit," so they might not be showing up together. I posted earlier on this thread but it kind of got buried. Happy to answer any questions!

I would expect of those that frequent GC, 2 interviews sounds about right (along with the others who aren't on this forum) >_<
hypervodka Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I would only say that you probably won't be asked o interview for Emory, since it is an on-campus interview, meaning they have to prepare flight details and hotel reservations beforehand, so there can't be too much delay. BUT, according to there's still a waitlist of people who were not asked to interview.

I was like WHAT? I thought they would've sorted out such things by then. It's settled now but still Edited January 27, 2015 by t1racyjacks
SubmarineReflection Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Still no word from anywhere. Congrats to all acceptees!
Rona Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I am getting a little down on my self and actually its quiet depressing. I didnt do so hot in Undergad 2.67. I currently ive in Virginia but was looking to attend CSULB and or Long Island University Brooklyn Campus for my MSW. I currently work in social services in Virginai so im hoping that gives me alittle advantage. CSULB is my top school because i meet the 2.5 GPA requirment but after reading blogs on here, i noticed its a bit more competitive then i expect. Any thoughts concerns or word of encoragement.... do i at least have a shot with my crappy GPA.
Appppplication Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Rona you should send an email to the Director of Graduate Studies at both places. Explain your situation and your relevant work experience (because in your field work experience counts for a lot), and ask them if a case like yours would be considered. They should be honest with you. If they say no, you can always take some community college courses relevant to the field and make sure to get As in them and then try again. iwontbelyeveit and t1racyjacks 2
Appppplication Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 also the psychology boards should have MSW related threads.
Rona Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Thank you Caffeinated Im praying that i get in... ive never waned any thing this bad lol
1Q84 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Also, Rona, check out this thread: you haven't already. It may provide support and other stories of acceptances with your GPA! Here's hoping for the best for you! jean-luc-gohard 1
Radcafe Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Some U Chicago interview invites are up! Already bumming myself out a bit because I haven't heard from anywhere yet. I don't even want to move to Chicago! Anyone want to claim them?

Any thoughts concerns or word of encoragement.... do i at least have a shot with my crappy GPA. Having completed my undergrad and MA at CSULB, I know the programs can be very competitive. This varies depending on the program, of course, but just to give you an idea, undergrad and transfer applicant are accepted at a less than 10% rate. The service are of the school is massive, so they get a lot of applications. Your best bet is to stay on top of everything yourself and email faculty often. The administration is pretty impersonal, at least they have been in my experience, because of the large student body population. However, the professors have been nothing but encouraging and helpful. I have found that the professors often give information that the website/administration will not tell you. Hope that helps a bit!
1Q84 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) omgomgomogmogmogmogmogmogmogmogmogmogmogmogmogmg "High on wait list" at USC. Just got the call! <dying of happiness> Hoping other USC applicants on TGC hear the same! Edit: Was too high on adrenaline after hanging up to remember to add: this is my FIRST CHOICE so I'm ECSTATIC. Also, I posted undergrad GPA as 4.0 but that's my MA GPA.
