ASHA EdFind stats

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if the GPA and GRE stats listed on EdFind are those of the range of applicants or those who are offered admission? Has anyone enquired about this before? At first glance, you would think it's what the University has admitted, but then again this isn't specified anywhere out there that I can find. My GRE scores today were 148 Quant and 160 Verbal. Both are way below what I'd achieved on practice tests. So I'm wondering which schools are worth the cost of applying to. Has anyone looked into this?  Thanks everyone and Cheers!

I'm not positive either, but I went through all the schools I was interested in and wrote down stats. I emailed schools and looked at their websites to find more accurate information so I would recommend doing that to be sure you feel comfortable applying there. Any that I couldn't find out I just focused on schools that my scores aligned best with (either being higher than or not too far from).

After looking, the scores posted (at least for CA schools) are very high so I believe this is for those that were offered admission.

Look again, I still see the opposite of what you're seeing. For CSU-LA

GRE: Verbal reasoning: 144-166 Quantitative reasoning: 140-162 Analytical writing: 3.5-5.5

I've already begun the application process of course and paid for transcripts to be sent and application fees. I suppose the next step would be to see if I can defer my application if there's no way to improve these scores before final deadlines. One thing I've thought though is that maybe my scores will be good enough to get wait-listed, and in the meantime I can retake and then forward my new improved scores. Does anyone have any experience with that tactic? I suppose people who are successfully pursuing their graduate studies aren't monitoring these forums anymore, but maybe someone has some experience.

I'm pretty sure I froze during the math section today, and I know I can do much better because I had a near perfect SAT score. That was over 10 years ago, and this stuff is not at all like riding a bike as I thought it would be.

Good luck everyone over the next few days and then months.

I haven't heard about that before but you could always try. My one piece of encouragement is that generally schools in our field aren't quite as concerned with math as the other parts of the GRE. If you feel your app is solid everywhere else, it might not matter. Of course there's no guarantee; I'd call the programs you're applying to if you are seriously considering retaking right now just in case.

Good luck to you! I see you're applying to Utah State as well. Hoping to get that submitted this week.

Do you remember what USU said about GRE? I have tried to do the same thing as you, and I'm typically very OCD about organizing things, but CSDCAS has only complicated the application process for me when it's meant to simplify it. What a nightmare that has been! I can't remember who has what at this point.

I think all I saw at USU was the minimum is the 40 percentile, but higher is more competitive. Yeah CSDCAS has its pros and cons. I really hate the ones that make you apply on CSDCAS and the school itself. Utah State has been annoying because they won't email my professors until the whole application is submitted, including my SOP. I'm like, just let them upload ahead of time!!

Edfind is very confusing to me.

For example, when I went the information day for my alma matter, they said that they won't evaluate anything lower than a 3.7 GPA. YET, it looks like they reported that people with a 3.3 or 3.4 were admitted.

UT Austin claims to take an "holistic approach" and consider all factors beyond numbers yet they report in edfind that they admit 3.7 GPAs.

Hey I just found out that two schools I was looking into have totally incorrect stats on Edfind in terms of percentage accepted.  They were PSU and UofO.  Has anyone found this to be the case for the majority of schools?  Ex: Asha 44% real life 20% (just approximations not real figures).

I understand how competitive these programs are, and am working hard but this is ridiculous to not even have accurate information at our disposal.  Guess i'll be emailing a ton of schools to try and find the real stats.  This whole process is frustrating, and i'm not even applying yet.   <_<

Ops forgot to quote!

I agree, very confusing. I checked Edfind one day and it said that the UO had 300 applicants this year- then a few days later it said they had 143... Ummm....

Did you end up getting accepted to either of those schools CBG? Best of luck to you!

I'm actually applying in the Fall so haven't quite started yet.  I'm just trying to be prepared and realistic about where i'm applying and know ahead of time so I can cater my statement of purpose to each school etc.  This is good information though b/c I already live in a state where some schools are 8% if i'm spending money on those slim odds i'd at least want in state tuition lol.

Not all of the information for schools are updated. Especially GRE scores, GPA, number of applicants, acceptances. The average GRE scores and GPA accepted goes up every year for every school. Best bet is looking for those updated numbers on each programs website or calling to ask. I called Eastern New Mexico University and their Acceptance rate was off by 40%!!!!!ASHA said they accept 56% or applicants. Not the case anymore. Do this research and check the admission results board for the past two years of admissions and look at those that have posted their GPA and GRE scores. This will save you time and money

I find that incredibly annoying to hear.  The Asha page claims it was updated at the very end of February at which point the school should have known how many applicant they had that cycle.  Most schools don't list it so you have to figure out who to contact and when and cross your fingers they actually get back to you.

I'm most interested in applicants accepted percentages.  So Eastern New Mexico University is 16%!!  That sucks to have bad information that can easily be corrected.  I guess everyone is taking the "it's hard to get in" information and with their application choices switching the "less competitive schools" into the more competitive schools.

What a frustrating process for people that are trying to apply to schools they are really interested in but also try and choose those schools realistically.  Thank you for the information!

They changed the website and phone app in February. Maybe that is why it shows the updated date as February? After all, the stats for this year wouldn't be complete yet (actual class size), although they would know number of applications and number accepted by now, so I am not sure.

This was ASHA's response. I emailed them

The information in EdFind is populated by institutions that complete and submit our annual CSD Education Survey. The last survey was in the fall of 2014 and institutions reported data for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The next survey is scheduled to open in early August 2015, and they will be submitting data for the 2014-2015 academic year.

I hope this information is helpful and answers your question.

Thank you,

Natalie

Thank you!  At least I know when they'll have the information.  Stinks for people who are planning ahead and trying to get information before it's last minute, it seems pretty late imo.  I guess i'll go call 30 schools so I can have a diverse set of percentages to choose from with real averages.  Since I won't have time to retake the GRE after getting that super prompt ASHA info lol.

Oh didn't think of the update.   And I'm mostly concerned with numbers of applications which they should know by February 1st/2nd most schools.  I feel like the class size doesn't change drastically so not as worried about that number.  Thank you!

Check the program websites first! Most schools post averages for each class! Will save you tons of time!

Hi everyone! New here... I'm trying to figure out where to find the ASHA Edfind stats people refer to. When I go to the ASHS site to browse Edfind, I only find searches for Programs by various criteria. No statistics on acceptance rates, etc. I would be *so appreciative* if someone could share a url or other tips on how to get that info. Also, I haven't been able to find that kind of information on "program websites" either (only looking at Cal State schools, so far). Where are y'all finding that stuff??

Many thanks in advance for any help...
