Definitely feeling you with the heart hurting part.  This is such a long application process that you can't help but start to imagine yourself living there, and then there's still hope but it almost seems more cruel.  Sigh.  I applied for a research grant to work with a Medical Humanities group at the University of Bologna.  Best of luck for both of us (and all Alternates!) hoping for good news.  I'm sort of hoping that the Italy Principals get job offers or better fellowships or develop a gluten allergy :P  Seriously, though, congrats to all who've received awards.

I am so sorry that the two of you were chosen as alternates! I understand your range of emotions, as I was selected as an alternate last year.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to get additional information about my status after notification.  There were two of us alternates last year for Moldova and the other alternate was bumped up, but not until the middle of June.  In some ways, being an alternate really is worse than being a NS because the waiting doesn't end - I spent the entire summer on pins and needles hoping that I would be promoted also.  But now, looking back, I am very happy that I was chosen as an alternate instead of NS and being chosen as an alternate informed my decision to apply again.  Even though the 2015-2016 grant year would have been the PERFECT time for me to live abroad for a year, I am hoping that I am selected this year and I will have to make things work.

Best of luck to both of you! And remember that being chosen as an alternate is still an achievement and future employers, professors, etc. will be impressed to see that you were an alternate on your resume or cv.

Thank you all, honestly being apart of this forum makes it a lot easier to take in by having the ability to talk people going through the same experience. While I am deeply saddened, I'm definitely not discouraged and will be applying again next year. I agree, it's the worst when you've been imagining all of the possibilities if you were to win, only to have them not become reality. My fingers are crossed that you are chosen this year, and best of luck to all who are still waiting around for that fateful email <3

Bulgaria just found out.  I was selected.  I thought I was going to be so excited but I almost feel numb...in shock.  I had been making plans for not getting it and I was excited about those and now this makes it very confusing and I feel torn.

Congratulations! I can only imagine how confusing it must be -- while I'm still waiting for my country to come out (Slovakia, so hearing about another Slavic/Eastern European country is super exciting for me) the best advice I can offer is to give yourself a couple of days to let everything sink in before starting to really think about things and make decisions.

So the result for a Fulbright Specialist to Ireland came out today which I know probably has nothing to do with decision timeline for student programs but my brain can't seem to make my heart understand that so I'm even more on pins and needles now!! Gahhh

Well, I guess that's it for this week. Congrats (and unfortunately some condolences) to everyone who heard this week. To the rest of you, see you on Monday for the next round of nail-biting! Have a good weekend everyone!

Hi all! Lurking here for a while - I'm waiting on the Fulbright for India. And waiting and waiting.

Just curious if anyone else also applied for the CLS scholarship separate from the Fulbright program and is seeing a conflict in orientation dates? @Jeden I saw you applied for both - do you know of any conflicts between the summer CLS program and the summer orientations for Fulbright programs?

Good luck to all!

Hi natyananda! Came out of lurking to reply to your post, haha. I'm waiting on the Fulbright for Bangladesh and am an alternate for CLS Bangla as well so I'm doing some nail-biting over your question myself. I don't think we have any definite orientation dates for either the Fulbright or the CLS. But looking at past dates, the Fulbright orientation falls during the time one would be abroad for CLS. So the two may conflict and if they do, you might have to decide between the two.

The CLS website states:

For applicants to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program Applicants to the CLS Program may apply for and receive both a CLS Program award and a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award in the same academic year. However, participants may not accept both a CLS Program award and the Fulbright Critical Language Enhancement Award, which provides supplemental critical language study funding for Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantees, in the same academic year.

If a participant receives a Fulbright grant with a mandatory pre-departure orientation in Washington, D.C. that falls during the CLS Program period, he or she may need to choose between accepting the CLS Program award and the Fulbright grant.

Hope this helps! And best of luck to you :)

Thanks @teejster! I was afraid of that :\ but thanks for your insights! Best of luck for getting the Fulbright and CLS for Bangladesh! Having to choose between both would be a good problem to have ;)

I am a semi-finalist for the Mexico research grant. I have heard nothing since the interview a month or so back.

I feel everyone's anxiety. I looked at the Google spreadsheet and saw there are three of us applying to do research Kosovo, a country that traditionally picks one person. It's tough.

So from from 2010 to 2014, notifications were sent out on the 3rd Tuesday of the March pretty consistently (1 year it was the 3rd Monday, close enough). I think there might be a good chance decisions for UK semi-finalist will come then. Of course, the wrench in the gears is that last year it came on the 30th, even though other Fulbright award notifications didn't seem to be late. I think Monday-Tuesday is the day to anticipate; if it doesn't come then, then it's anyone's guess and we're back to anxious ignorance.

I see OxBridge was informed two weeks later. Also, there is only Oxbridge data for 2015. Any idea what's going on with this???

Congratulations on your interview, sat0ri! I haven't yet received an interview request for the UK Open Award, so...I'm anxious. I think I did fail to mention that my application falls under the arts category -- still a research/study grant, but 'Arts' rather than 'Academic.' That changes the entire review process, so I should probably stop trying to make sense of the notification timelines for past years. From what I surmise, having been selected as a semi-finalist in the arts means I was approved by the designated NSC creative subcommittee, and now my application is tossed back into the overall UK pool for further processing...? The Arts Application Statistics PDF seems to imply that, anyhow: http://us.fulbrightonline.org/country-review-resources. It does make the "semi-finalist" designation murky. Under the 'Arts' category, it seems like semi-finalists are determined based on field (music, theatre, etc.) rather than country. I have to assume that they wouldn't tell me I'm a semi-finalist unless they meant I'd "made the cut" in both the 'Arts' pool *and* the UK pool, but...who knows!

In any case, I'm happy to have found a forum where I can be an anxious puddle of confusion alongside talented strangers :-)

Slovakia found out this morning, unfortunately I wasn't selected. I'm very sad, and giving myself today to be bummed, but tomorrow is a new day. I'm going to focus on graduating, and that because I won't be going on the Fulbright my boyfriend and I will most likely be moving in together. Just trying to stay positive.

All the best for everyone, regardless of the outcome of the Fulbright.

Hello All,

So I am pretty new to this forum. I am a finalist for the Spain ETA position. Any one else applying to this one? Also is there a spreadsheet for this year and could someone link it. Thanks

Edit: Found the spreadsheet and added my info

People are finding out today? Also, it is interesting to see that the decision have been coming earlier and earlier each year. But now I am getting super nervous haha.

I'm hoping they send out a few more before the end of the day!

I specifically applied to Ireland and I'm getting anxious that they'll be way later than usual this year because in the past they have had 4-5 awards and this year they have 9 so it is just more to to sort through/narrow down/decide on.

Which country did you apply to?

Spain for ETA. today was the day that they decided last year (3/16/15 was the 3rd monday). Is the decision made within the host country? Because if so that ought to rule out (at least for me) any further decisions today give the time differences.
