Any last minute 1 week tips for GRE

Good afternoon

Scheduled to take the GRE in 10 days  :)

Studied using the Official Guide, 5 lb book, Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning books, and scanned through the Manhattan Prep Reading Comp and Essays guide. Took a couple of practice tests to evaluate where I was at. The Verbal is okay (not extremely concerned, just want to do okay) and my Quant score ranges at ~85th percentile. I'd like to get at least a 165 - 168 on the Quant section, seeing that I'm applying to an Engineering PhD program. I've been working through Magoosh Vocabulary flashcards and are working through Advanced words now, with review every day. I've also been putting together summaries for each different kind of section so that I make improvements going through this next week. After I finish taking the Manhattan Prep tests (which, might I admit, are a bit more challenging than the PowerPrep tests), I'm going to take my second PowerPrep exam.

My question is: what can I do to make observable changes at this point to my potential GRE score? Am I on the right track in terms of making summaries and word review? If there is anything else that I can do, what do you suggest?

Get lots of sleep the night before, do not stay up to cram... terrible decision, can be backed up by much evidence in the education literature. Don't cram or go in sleep deprived.

For all of the questions, get good at reading between the lines, seeing the short cuts to getting the most accurate answer possible.

I did a prep course and was very happy with the resulting improvement in the scores. Hone your strategies :-)

Hi percheme,

Have you taken any FULL MSTs (including the Essays) yet? If so, then how did you score. In your post, you mention your score goal for the Quant, but not one for the Verbal (or for the overall score). It's tough to offer specific advice on your situation since you haven't provided much in the way of specific information.

EMPOWERgreRichC, so far I've worked through 1 Powerprep and 2 Manhattan Prep exams (fully). I plan to take the next 3 Man Prep exams with full Math and Verbal (4 sections together) and Writing separately. I will complete with the last MGRE and Powerprep exams fully to evaluate my progress. I did pick up one helpful note - to go back through the practice exams and make note of my mistakes, not necessarily my work through of them (I think it's an excellent strategy). I have no score for the Writing (not too worried on that end, I've been writing quite a lot  with a planned tackle). My highest Quant score came from Powerprep (163) and my highest Verbal came from Manhattan (153). With Verbal, I really just want to do okay (I'd be fine with a 155 at this point honestly). I'm certain that within the next week, looking back on my errors will help me more at this point than pushing through math sections. Feel free to respond if you still require more information.:)

Hi percheme,

From your post, it sounds like you plan to take at least 3 MSTs in this last week - that is NOT a good idea. Taking lots of MSTs will likely lead to no tangible improvement (and you're more likely to 'burn out' before Test Day). In this last week, you have enough time to take 1 FULL MST, but the rest of your time should be spent on light review, study, practice, etc.

Sure! Thanks Rich!! I'm only going to take the PowerPrep tomorrow and that'll be it for studying. The main reason I took the tests were to become used to the time limits and format, which I think I've done enough of. Thanks again!
