moni28 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I also have applied to UCF and am waiting for an answer! hoping for the best this is my first time applying. Has anyone found out from UCF yet?I'm wondering the same! I heard by late November/Thanksgiving, we should know, but I'm not sure how decisions are sent out (all at once, etc). When did you submit your application? It took like 10 days for my application to be processed at the graduate admissions office there.

I am thinking they are sending them out all at once, because I know others who have applied and haven't found out yet either.

I keep checking the online portal, but obviously, nothing has changed. The wait is really so nerve-racking haha . I know UCF is rolling admissions, so I'm not sure how many applications they typically receive for Spring.

Why did you decide to apply to UCF? I feel like UCF's program is really well-rounded and practical, especially with their required courses. I'm interested in working with all age populations, not necessarily just one, so I feel like I would really learn a lot while there, and have the opportunities to work with different populations, moreso than some other grad programs.Their required classes about Feeding and Swallowing Disorders and Articulation/Phonological Disorders sound really intriguing too. What encouraged you to apply to UCF?

Arcanelady27 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Thank you! I'll let you know how it goes. Have you received any decision from Lehman about your application?I emailed the director. My application is still under review. They are still going through applications. Thank you! I just got the e-mail, and my date is 11/6 at 10a.m!
moni28 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I went there for undergrad, and I like the program as well. they are also one of two schools in Florida who have an aphasia house. I'm interested in the adult population who have neurogenic and cognitive communication disorders. That's awesome, and I noticed the Aphasia class also. I've volunteered at a rehab in the Speech Therapy office, and I've witnessed many sessions where clients exhibit Aphasia, so I'm also interested in learning more about that program. It's reassuring to hear that you have enjoyed your undergraduate experience at UCF too! Also, the warmer weather in Florida is definitely a plus, as I'm from New York, and getting really tired of our colder and snowy winters .
moni28 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I emailed the director. My application is still under review. They are still going through applications. That's awesome news then that they're still reviewing. I guess they haven't decided on a second interview date for applicants then, so that's good for you! Arcanelady27 1

It's pretty awful, I would rather be in a colder place lol! It's so humid and hot all the time I barely go outside. I wish I could go to a school out of state but UCF is the best option for me right now.

I guess they haven't decided on a second interview date for applicants then, so that's good for you! Having tons of schoolwork my final semester has helped me not think about it too much! I'm still optimistic. I have a verbal GRE score of 152 and quant 141 AW 4Was advised not to retake, but I may just to try and increase quant score and AW score.

At least almost everything inside is air conditioned in Florida though! At my college, the dorms only have air conditioning for a little bit, and then it's turned off. If we have a heaatwave randomly, we have to cope with that, so annoying, lol

I'm trying to channel my anxious energy from apps into studying for my last semester too. & I'm jealous of your verbal score because I took the GRE 3 times, and no matter how much I studied, only my math score went up; my verbal always stayed the same.

Have you heard they are less competitive for spring semester usually ?
moni28 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 since UCF is the only school I applied to, what's your take on the other schools that accept for spring semester? Have you heard they are less competitive for spring semester usually ?I feel like schools for the spring get a lot less applicants, but they're still competitive too, and it really depends on the other applicants' qualities too. I got an interview from CUNY Lehman (I don't know if you know a lot about CUNY in New York City, but they're very competitive because they're cheaper, and so many people apply), and I was really shocked to get an interview there because they're the most competitive place I've applied to for the Spring, and my GRE scores really weren't very high, so I was expecting a rejection automatically. I guess in that sense, it is a little less competitive depending on the school. Since I got an interview there, it's also making me question how the other schools I applied to will decide on my applications now, haha. I was also surprised at how quick I received a decision from Lehman. Another school I applied to has also started sending out acceptances, but I haven't heard anything, so I called to inquire about my application status, and was told they haven't even received it yet from the grad admissions department because they don't receive all of the applications at one time. I'm wondering if UCF does something similar? From on here, it seems like a lot of people have GRE scores similar to mine, which gives me hope for a future acceptance because I always hear how you need a perfect score to get into a grad school, but I know that's not always true.

Yeah my gre isn't the best either, I'm just hoping they look at everything else because I feel as though my application is pretty strong and a good fit for their program! Well, I hope we both get in! Is your heart set on UCF as your first choice? It's nice that you applied to a bunch of schools to give you a buffer lol.

It's nice that you applied to a bunch of schools to give you a buffer lol.I feel like from the out-of-state schools I applied to, UCF would probably be my first choice because there are direct flights from Orlando to New York, and UCF also offers on-campus housing potentially for grad students. Probably a school in New York would be best because that's where I'm from, but I'm just hoping I get one acceptance, and take it from there! lol. I'm trying to (mentally) prepare if I do have to move out-of-state though.

moni28 Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 That's been my trend too - my math score increases with each practice test I take but verbal stays roughly the same. It's really frustrating. I had a tutor for a few weeks too, and he said improving the verbal GRE score is naturally harder than improving the math score because of learning new vocabulary, which we often don't use in real life, etc.

My verbal went up and quant tanked. Quant score was 145.

Quant score was 145.It's so frustrating when you take the GRE multiple times, and hope all of your section scores will increase each time, but they don't. The first two times I took the GRE, I had the same writing score, but then the third/last time I took it, my writing score went down . Arcanelady27 1

However, it did rise from 3.0 to 4.0 on the second try. I still did not get the desired verbal and quant scores on the second try. Honestly, I do not see why the GRE is even needed. Schools like Columbia do not require the GRE. I still believe it is no indication of how one will do in graduate school. Case and point: I already have a M.S. degree and obtained it prior to taking the GRE. My overall GPA 3.75. However, you would never guess this with my scores. Jolie717 1

In fact studies have shown that it is not an accurate predictor of student success in grad school in many majors. Both in terms of grades and performance of grad students as judged by their professors. Top that off with ETS' own admission that their GRE test is biased against women, minorities and the socio-economically challenged? Really??? Arcanelady27 1

Wow! i did not know ETS admitted their GRE test is biased against women, minorities, and socio-economically challenged. I fit the criteria for all three areas of bias. It maddens me that my quant score may keep me from graduate studies in a concentration that is not math based.
