Got the same reply from Colorado boulder. Didn't get rejection but initial acceptances are out. Neither got confirmation for wait-list. Now trying to interpolate my chances with snippets of irrelevant information which is a total exercise in futility with only possible use of jogging my brain a bit.

I don't have any first-hand experience with it myself, but the way I understand it, they actually notify you if you're waitlisted. As in, they either send you an offer, a notification that you're waitlisted, or a rejection. I've personally never heard of a case where someone first got a rejection and then later was notified that a spot has opened up and that they sort of were on a waitlist without knowing and can now step in. After all, unis want you to make your decision keeping them in mind as an option.

I know that's probably not what you want to hear right now though.

But hey, lots of decisions coming out this week - something will work out! :)

But this is not the case. Neither me nor Yasir received any rejections, or admissions, or waitlist. Anything. And then we keep asking ourselves what we make of it. And if admission decisions are not made at the same point in time, we would like to know what are the criteria for this.

Ultimately, I prefer to deal with that as a Schrödinger box that I will not bother to open in order to avoid killing the cat. :D

LOL.

I will wait to kill the cat, because there are other 7 cats for me and I hope maybe two of them get out of their boxes alive. If I were to be crying over seven little dead kitties, then I could face the need to kill the eighth out of mercy. :D

Cats die after coming out of the box as well. My first and only probable acceptance got converted to waitlist after i blasted the interview by getting late for 40 minutes because i was unwell and couldn't get up on time and time difference between CST and PST is 12 hours and interview was scheduled at 3 a.m in the morning. So, i had a 40 minutes sleep at cost of, say what, my future????

Thats the silliest thing which would come to haunt me for a long long long time to come.

My experience last cycle suggested that sometimes they don't send all the rejections at once.  There were a few instances where they sent out acceptances and rejections and I heard nothing.  Ultimately those all turned into rejections unfortunately.  Maybe you are on a waitlist for the waitlist, but more likely they just have multiple mailing lists for rejections and they don't go out all at once.

It's early though, and every school and year is different, so it is far, far too early to be pessimistic about this cycle.

I am so sorry for this. But I hope you get more acceptances. Good luck.

Oh no, that's terrible! I really hope it won't be the only shot you get. I'm sure you can also talk to unis about the time difference - I'm on CET, and I told them that I can't do past midnight on my end, because, let's face it, that's just not fair anymore. A US candidate gets to do her talk at 10am and I'll do it at 2am after a 10-hour work day?

Which uni was it, if you don't mind me asking? How many you still have this cycle?

It explains the time lag involved. Good explanation.

Missouri Columbia, Public Admin prog. I applied to fourteen programs. Lets see. I am positive, something will work out.

For those of you that have not heard from Colorado-Boulder: I was waitlisted by them last year, and they were very slow is letting me know. I recall that a couple of weeks had passed since they notified the accepted applicants before they ever sent out the waitlist emails.

And, @studugarte, don't worry yet regarding UVA. It is my sense that we have only contacted those who were also nominated for an additional fellowship. In other words, I don't believe all first-round acceptances have gone out yet. Though, I expect that they will go out this week or next at the latest. Sure there will be a wait list, too.

Finally, as a general point, while I realize that looking at previous years' notification dates for programs can somewhat helpful in getting an idea of a general admissions timeframe, please keep in mind that there will be some variation due to shifting responsibilities within departments. For example, at UVA, we have a new admissions director this year who is going about the process is a slightly different way. There are likely to be other programs whose processes have changed somewhat this app season as well. In the meantime, don't let you anxiety get the better of you--you will know where you stand when the programs contact you and, until then, the rest is simply speculation.

So here I am joining this group anxiety. Finished submitting my first round of applications last week to NPSIA, EUI and BTS. There are still more to come, in Europe. Anyone else applying to these as well (PhD)?
