I'm going to be on the edge of my seat tomorrow. "Tomorrow" is the date that overlaps with last year's first acceptance. (That was the most confusing sentence I've ever written in my entire life lol).

same!!!! (i understood exactly what you meant :) ) I posted the other day bc I received an email from Grad Admissions (*not* the department) saying that they reviewed my app but couldn't proceed bc one of my old transcripts (not from where I graduated) was missing. I would think this means they are pretty close to notifying applicants, but I then contacted the dept and they said  it had arrived, and would forward it to the general Grad School. so i'm thinking it may have just been a general email from graduate studies… we'll see!

Neato! I'm applying to the Popular Culture MA at BGSU. It's in the same school as ACS. Maybe we'll see each other, with some luck.

It's a fairly small program, so I can't imagine I wouldn't run into another grad student, even if situated within another cluster.

I can confirm the POPC and ACS people at BGSU interact--especially now that most of us are housed in the same building. POPC is a TINY program, and you'll get to know the people in it very well, but there are tons of awesome people in ACS and the two programs mix a lot. Same with Media/Communications and English (Lit and Textual Studies). A lot of classes in common.

Heard from the person who entered last year's acceptance on 1/17 that that ASE made their calls early last year. You might have a bit more to wait this time!

Maybe so! The call certainly didn't come in (and it might never). But waiting is half the fun ;)

Thank you! Same to you!

CTKopster - good luck on your applications. Your topic sounds very interesting. Do you have any insight to offer to older applicants?

Thank you for the kind words. Best of luck to you as well. Advice to older applicants? Use your experiences, either life, personal, professional, to find an interesting research topic. I had no intention at all to open up that pandora's box of prison experience. Too nightmarish! But as I progressed through my Masters program I discovered that academics like older folks with unique life experience. I'm now very much looking forward to the opportunity to dive back in! So, bottom line, life experience matters.

Life experience seems like one of those things where you never realize how much it affected how you see the world until you meet/talk to people with very different experiences. I'm an immigrant, and grew up in one of those big coastal cities where most people I knew were also immigrants. It never seemed weird or important to my identity until I moved for an M.A. to a much more rural, everyone has been there since the 1800s type place. There my experiences seemed fascinating and novel. And I realized quickly how many of my career/academic choices can be traced back to that part of my identity.

I just wanted to drop in and say I heard back from USC's ASE department. I'm in a special situation, though, so I'm not sure if they've decided or sent out other notifications yet. I did hear that there's 6-9 candidates who will be invited to recruitment. Good luck to all who applied!

Hey @1Q84 thanks for posting this. I haven't heard back yet so I'm assuming they'll be sending rejections out later. Wishing you lots of luck in the rest of the process! Keep us posted!

CTKopster - I'm not applying this year. My main fear is that my abysmal law school performance will cause issues. I haven't taken a History class since I graduated from college. I know I need a Masters to improve my chances but I still worry about how to address law school in Masters apps.

Anyone know what's going on with Minnesota's program? I saw on the results search that several people received their decisions already but I still haven't heard anything. Still says "awaiting decision" on my application. So nervous!!

I'm waiting on Minnesota's CSCL program, which has sent out one acceptance that was posted here at the very least. American Studies invited interviewees in early January and decisions have been sent out to those who interviewed. So I'm not sure if they're doing another round or what...

Oh okay. Thanks for the info. I never interviewed with them so I'm assuming it'll be a rejection. I called their office to check and they said the last round of emails is going out this week.

Oh, very cool! Good to know, because my other degrees are in Com and English, so I am even more convinced this program will be a great fit for me.

App deadline passed on the 15th. From everything I can gather, they notify in February. So time to commence nailbiting, BG applicants!

It's probably different admissions committees (or maybe not, who knows?), I was told I'd hear sometime in late February.

Fingers crossed. I really liked the department when I visited.

@divana olivas also, I haven't heard anyone getting any offers yet from NYU AMST. I think their notifications tend to go out pretty late :(

Congratulations! I also applied to USC's American Studies program but since I've yet to hear anything, and because I was accepted to USC's English program, I'm expecting the rejection. When did you hear about the waitlist status? And did they mention anything about how it may move?
