Hi Everyone,

my name is Kevin, long time looker/first commenter. I went to the open house this year in New Haven and the director of graduate studies gave us a time line as to when to expect to hear from them. February 5th is the day she said we would hear back about preliminary decisions this year, our interviews will be scheduled for the week of February 29th, and the final decisions will be emailed by March 11th. I saw what looked like the individual that recevied an interview on here as well and throughly freaked out with all of you but I'm sure the 5th is when we will know. Best of luck to you all, even though Yale would be a dream come true for many of us, I know for myself that being a great artist is the first goal and a rejection or acceptance from them will not define that about my practice. That being said fingers crossed for everyone here as only 70 folks get selected for the interviews and if anyone gets an interview please share!

P.s.- if ya'll want anymore feedback from my time up in new haven just say the word. I'd love to chat more about that trip, as I am a west coaster that made the pilgrimage.

take care!

I'm actually a west coaster myself and would love to hear how you made the journey. My work is big and some is fragile (glass), right now i'm chuckling of the image of me driving my fathers Ford E350 work van across the country, while sleeping in the back, from Los Angeles to New Haven

hell, if I make it to the next round, I'll probably need to. I work on large 7'x 4' wood panels. I can't afford to ship my work unless i'm physically shipping it

Hey,

My journey was just to the open house, so  I went without work. I'm going to go the route of shipping it. It could be the about the same cost as gas across country with my full size Chevy Sliverado. One of the grad students I met there told me he rented a large truck and only brought one painting to his interview and got in to not only Yale but Columbia and SAIC, he was amazing. They all had such eclectic ways they delivered their work and different stories about the interviews across the board. I truly don't think Yale looks for any one mold, just a painter who knows who they are and isn't afraid to break a rule or two, even their rules.

Yeah it seems like a few people break the rules of interview day and its works out!  Did you by any chance get a website url for anyone you met? I'd love to see some current student work!  Ive checked out most of the recent grads sites that are listed on the yale site.

Not really, it was kind of an odd set up. I met mostly 2nd years in the program. But I can say that most of the people were making very different work from one another. One of the folks did very intersecting printmaking and we did a residency at the same print shop in Berkeley,CA, another person did large (and I mean large) like 120 x 80 in abstract scrolls that went from the ceiling to the floor and he took almost ten years off of school. So I am confident that it was an intentionally mixed bag yet mostly abstract and highly "conceptual"

I'm looking at your work and thinking it is very yale-friendly.  If you didn't get an invite I'm going to go ahead and assume no one did :D

Oh please don't let it be the 28th...I'd much prefer it to be the following week.

Yeah srsly. I'm with you. I thought Yale typically held interviews over several days midweek, though, not on weekends. Still, holding off on buying plane tickets to Chicago for the time being, just in case I need to head directly east from there.

Jeez. I just found out that I got an interview for SAIC and totally jumped the gun and already purchased my tickets to fly in for the weekend of 27-28th. I should have waited to find out about Yale. Seriously kicking myself!!!

Yeah I'm with you all, I'll be at SAIC at the end of the month for interviews as well! We could all be classmates and that is pretty exciting, I'm going to wait to get plane tickets after hearing from Yale, we know on this Friday, so I figure I could bounce from there to New Haven if needed.

A friend of mine at Yale said they were releasing the painting results yesterday, but it seems like no one has heard? I'm waiting on sculpture, still no word. I do know from last year that whether you get an interview or not, everyone will receive a letter. Not sure if anyone has specified that yet but they send rejection letters same day they send interview requests. Should be any day now!

I wish they had released painting already but my status looks unchanged.  I am betting all of our statuses are updated friday night.
