UofT or McGill?

Hello, 

I've been offered a place in the MA Art History at the UofT. My first choice remains McGill, however. 

I was wondering if anyone here has done their graduate studies in art history at  McGill and the UofT, and could help me make a choice, but mostly give me feedback about the art history department of both universities. 

I should also note that I still haven't received a response from McGill, and getting quite anxious about it. But if I got in at the UofT, shouldn't I get accepted at McGill too? As they are both the best universities in Canada.

I recently completed my MA in Art History at McGill and I absolutely loved it. Let me know if you have any questions about the program and faculty!

I think your choice will depend on many factors such as your area of specialization and whether you hope to pursue a career in academia or in the artworld. I considered both programs for my MA and ended up at McGill because I specifically wanted to work with certain professors and I wanted to write a thesis.

The programs are quite different. McGill's is a small 2 year program with thesis, UofT's is a larger 1 year program with no thesis.

I can't say anything about art history specifically, but it's not a guarantee that if you get into one school, you will get into the other one. Even if one is ranked higher, the other school could have a completely different pool of applicants, they could be looking for different things, and you might seem to fit better at one school than the other (in the eyes of the admissions committee).

Can you contact any current students? Do they put their emails or names on the website? That could probably help you make a decision, as there may not be a lot of people on this site that have gone to one of those schools for Art History.
